Has anyone rented the searaycers at WL? We have reservations during our July visit. I have read different details....one says that kids at least 12 yr old can drive, alone, with parents permission...another says 16 yr....anyone know for certain which it is? My 12,14, and 15 yr old were so looking forward to driving! :flower:

Are you talking about what I think you are? They were sprites then water mice now searaycers? If so, the 12 thing was when accompanied by an adult and 16 without. Probably the source of confusion.

BTW I was born and raised in Auburn. I will be at the WL 7/2 -7/10 then at BWV until the 15th. It's a Small World After All!!!!! ;)

I believe at the MK resorts you now have to be 16 with a valid drivers license to rent the sea racers. However, I have seen conflicting things too. Actually even the resort seemed to have conflicting information

Hi Kirk, thanks for the info. I do remember reading that each of the various searaycer locations are slightly different, due to the speed of the boats.

Yes, it is a small world! Auburn is just over the hill from where I work (in Rocklin). Have a great trip....looks like you're packing, just as I am!

Legally.... Operators of a marine vessel must be 16 years or older before operation without someone older than 18. UNLESS the operator pocesses a US Coast Guard license which can easily be optained by taking a couple week course and then a short test.....

I am not sure if WDW follows the USCG regulations (license) but that is how we enforce.

Hello everyone...I went ahead and called the dock station directly that rents the searaycers...to get the info directly from the source. I've been telling my kids all about how they'll get to drive...but I started having doubts. So, this is what they told me - directly - not through Disney play, etc, but from the actual rental station. They changed their policy a year ago.

DTD, CBR - you can drive these searaycers by yourself as a 12yr old that is at least 60 inches tall (with signed adult permission, but NO adult in the boat)

SEVEN SEAS LAGOON AREA (CR, WL, Poly, etc) - you HAVE to have to be 16 yr old with valid driver's license to drive by yourself....or you can be 12yr old, 60 inches tall to drive WITH adult in boat with you. The reason for this is that these boats are faster and harder to handle than the DTD & CBR boats - that's what she said.

I hope that this info helps someone else out, who may be wondering the same info.
