Sean Goldman - UPDATE: "He called me Dad..."

Very sad story.

Yes, children need to be with their parents, unless it is proven that the parent cannot/will not care for them.

I hope David Goldman gets his son back.

I have been following the case too. It's mind boggling how this can continue. Why is it the government can step in for some cases and not others? Brazil is our ally! Clinton can rescue journalists from N. Korea but our government can't help this father and his boy in "friendly" territory? Something is terribly wrong.

It seems like it is never going to end... I don't see it as a good gesture for them to invite him for Christmas. He is down there right now because he was supposed to be turned over to his father. Why did the other lawyer have to hold a press conference to invite him? The thing is so nuts.

What is also sad is the son my be at a point where he doesn't want to come back to NJ and leave his sister... You dont know what kind of crap he has been fed.

My brother in law has a younger sister Marie. She married an Iranian national and they had a baby girl. The marriage didn't work out, the two were subsequently divorced and she was awarded custody of the daughter with the Iranian ex-husband granted visitation. One day the ex-husband picked up his daughter from pre-school for his weekend with her, and when Sunday evening came he did not return the daughter to Marie. He flew with his daughter to Iran, and told Marie she would never see their daughter again.

He married an Iranian woman and they had kids. Marie's daughter was treated as a pariah by the townspeople and her stepmother because her mother was an American. Then, the Iranian father died. The daughter essentially became a slave in her home until the Iranian stepmother called Marie to come get her. By this time, the daughter was fifteen years old and had been raised as an Iranian since she was four. She was also taught by her father to hate Marie because she was a non-Muslim American.

The girl has been in all kinds of counselling, and we all doubt that she and Marie will ever have any kind of relationship. So sad.

Watching Seans dad on tv is heartbreaking. I dont know how the Brazilian courts can think that in Feb. a 9 year old can make a rational decision about where he wants to live after what he has been fed by his other family in Brazil. Also since Seans step father is from a very wealthy and influencial family it will be interesting to see how this turns out.

Yahoooo!!! It was just on the news that the Judge Ordered that he be returned to his father!! :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

Now hopefully there are no more setbacks and they will be home for Christmas!

Sweet!

I believe that is their supreme court. So hopefully it is a done deal. I can understand Sean not wanting to leave what he knows--but he never should have been taken in the first place.

Oh thank GOD! I have been so heart broken for David, watching this all unfold. This makes me very happy! What an awesome Christmas present for them.

This is great news!!! I just hope the step-father doesn't decide to do something really stupid. I hope Sean is back with his father very soon. That poor child..I can't imagine what his life has been like, and how much they brainwashed him, which is child abuse to say the least. That step-father sounds like a nut case to me. Once Sean is back in the U.S. with his father, I hope the step-father will be prosecuted, but he probably won't be, since he's in Brazil, and he's probably too much of a coward to come to the U.S.

I am happy to hear that the Supreme Court in Brazil is standing besides David. I hope that they are to be reunited in a way that is pleasing to both the father and the son.

At a minimum, not allowing David to have any visitation with his son, is going to make the next steps difficult. But from every interview I have seen with David, I am sure that David will be a great father and has the deepest love for his son and his feelings.

Hoping that they are on US soil soon!

This story has been breaking my heart. Glad they are closer to getting home.

Question: Has the dad been trying for the last 5 years to get his son, or is it recent? Also, has anyone read anything about what the boy wants? Is he happy in Brazil, or does he want to go to NJ?

Has the dad had contact with his son in Brazil?

Since the day his wife called and said she was not coming back, he has been trying to get his son back. The msnbc.com link posted above has a link to the timeline.

Without a doubt the boy has been brainwashed by the people that have kidnapped him, so unfortunately I don't think what he wants is even relevent.

According to the step family, the son wants to be in Brazil with them. But he does not understand that he had been kidnapped. (Kind of like when Elian's US family kept Elian here and claimed he loved them and wanted to stay. Though Elian was younger, it was still a kidnapping and they had no rightful claim to him.)

I do not otherwise know the history of the case.

Kidnapping is not a justification to listen to the boy's wants since likely his wants are very influenced by the step-family with whom he currently resides.

This is the most incredibly wonderful news! I've been following this story, and it's been frustrating and heartbreaking. What a joyous event to celebrate during this holiday season!

David has won judgments before, so I am very cautious with my optimism right now - it's been quite the roller coaster ride.

But I do have to say CONGRATS do David and Sean. May they begin their lifetime of love and healing asap.

The crazy granny and stepdad will no doubt pull some more shenanigans, but hopefully the recent judge's orders will minimize further delays.

:cool1: I, too, am very hopeful.

Me too. If the stepdad does another appeal, and I was the father I'd sue him. Sue the pants off of him. Maybe that would get him to back off.
