In a Vero Beach Resort thread a few weeks ago, someone mentioned a seafood buffet at Sonya's. Can anyone here provide more details on this, or a personal review? The previous post indicated that it was probably only held once per week. What night(s) is it currently held? Any comments on the quality/variety?

Thanks for any opinions. I'm anxiously awaiting my first trip to the Vero Beach Resort. :hyper:

In October, I believe it was held on Thursday or Friday nights.

You could give a call to the resort at 772-234-2000 and ask. They should be able to tell you the current schedule.

My DH really enjoys the buffet. They usually offer a good variety of seafood dishes, peal and eat shrimp, crab legs and a yummy dessert area. :sunny:

I personally didn't care for it. The shrimp were small and hard to open, the crab legs were small and alot of work, some of the dishes were good, but for the price, we didn't do it justice. We did eat there (Sonyas) and ordered off the menu a different night and it was great.

I see your from NC, It reminded me of an upscale "Calabash" type bufffet down in Myrtle Beach SC. Not sure if they have them in NC, but that was just my opinion.

I think it was around $30 or $40. We just dont eat at buffets. But I do remember the items listed on the menu were nicer than what you would get at a calabash in Myrtle Beach. They also had some kid choices and price. where in NC do you live?

Thanks, floridafam. Do you remember if the buffet had much in the way of non-seafood items as well (chicken, veggies, etc.)? I'm just curious since my wife is less enthusiastic about seafood than I am. :earsboy:

ClarabelleCow: Yes, we've been to the Myrtle Beach area a number of times, and I have eaten at some of the calabash buffets, so I can relate to your comparison. (As an FYI... "Calabash" is actually a town in NC, just over the NC/SC line from Myrtle Beach.)

Canda: It sounds a bit pricey, but I still might try it if they have it on a night I'm there.

We live in the Triangle area, just outside of Raleigh.

Thanks to all of you for your input! :wave2:

They do offer vegetables and some non seafood items but I usually order of Sonya's regular menu while my husband enjoys the buffet.

He has always enjoyed it and we make a point to go every trip. It has always been great when we've been there.

Sometimes, in October, he will luck out and they will have some stone crab claws.

Last October, he had the buffet and I ordered prime rib with baked potato and vegetables. It was one of the best meals I have ever had. They had the prime rib cooked exactly the way I like it.

Sometimes on dessert area they offer strawberry pralines which are little white chocolate cups filled with strawberry mousse and topped with whipped cream. They are heavenly!

DW and I tried the buffet during our stay at VB last May.
Being New Englanders who love seafood, we were looking forward to it. Unfortunately we couldn't have been more disappointed. I enjoy all types of seafood, crab, fish, clams, chowda, so I am not fussy. I can't say I found any item on the buffet to be anything special.
For appoximately 27.99pp? I expected a lot more, especially from a "Disney" restaurant.
I wouldn't have minded the price if I walked away saying I had just had a great meal, but that just wasn't the case.
Just one DVC'rs opinion, but you might be better off eating at a local restaurant for seafood. (There is a large binder full of local restaurant menus in the hotel lobby).

PS - On a positive note however, the conch fritters from the food
stand near the pool are out of this world! :D

We did the buffet last July and were disappointed with the quality. Also, there seemed to be a real problem with them keeping dishes full. Thank goodness we were seated close to the buffet, so we could see when refills were brought out. A lady almost ran me over trying to get to the crab legs! When I asked a server when he would be re-filling the crab legs, he snapped at me that he was working as fast as he could! Very un-Disneylike! I don't think we'll repeat a visit there. Later we went to Capt. Hiram's, great seafood and a fun atmosphere.

We tried the buffet just three weeks ago (it was offered on Sunday & Thursday nights). I share in the disappointment as some of the previous posts. I think my expectations were much higher!

We enjoyed the seafood buffet last November on a Sunday night. We thought it was a good value and of reasonably good quality for the price. If you like crab legs and are not in a hurry it is a relaxing, gut filling evening! The staff did a great job with our 5 year old to keep him occupied while my wife and I kept stuffing our faces. My son still talks about the magic tricks our server showed him. We look forward to eating there again when we visit this July.

If you consider anything over 9.95 PP as 'expensive' then don't go to this buffet. I thought, for the price, and considering it was a Disney enterprise that it was a good deal.

Hi,
We tried last Sept and found it to over priced and underwllming and the atmosphere left allot to be desired.
