We are planning on have dinner at Cape May and I know that it is basically all seafood, but just recently my DGD's boyfriend has decided to come along on the trip. He has a Seafood Allergy, is there anything that he would be able to eat? Or will they be able to serve him anything that won't be contaminated by the seafood oil or such? Trying to decide if it would be safe or should I just book another restaurant for him and my granddaughter to eat at close to the Beach Club during the same time.

So if his Allergy is also airborne particles then you might want to rethinks it…..

either way I would have the reservation market, for the allergy.

if his allergy is only to actually eatting seafood…. They have a huge selection that is not seafood…

if you are concerned about cross contamination an allergy chef, will cook a separate meal, and or serve from the kitchen away from the seafood ….

Book another restaurant for them. Just smell of that much seafood could stress him out even if it’s not on his plate, like it is Intense. I smell the seafood from the lobby to the exit for SAB when I walk by at dinner time. Between BC/YC, BWI & Swolphin there are lots of options. They can turn it into a nice dinner date!

I think DGD and her boyfriend should have a nice, date night at another restaurant. As PP mentioned there are a ton of great restaurants at YC, BWI and Swolphin

Just about every single restaurant in the Epcot resorts serves seafood.

Date night is a great idea,
However, to answer the op’s question.

Yes it is possible to eat at Cape May and not have seafood….

The bigger question is how bad is the boy friends allergy.

For for instants if they go to Olive Garden and somebody order shrimp scampi, will he have a break out at the table or is it only if he eats the shrimp he will have a reaction.

The level of a persons allergy can be a simple running nose to anaphylactic shock.

To accurately answer the question that price of information is important.

Also is the allergy all seafood, is it all shellfish, or mollusks is it crustaceans…..

It is hard to accurately answer the question with out the proper information,

And just referring them to a different restaurant all thought safest, doesn’t serve the purpose of the question….

I'm allergic to seafood and I can barely stand to walk by this restaurant. I simply can't stand the smell of seafood - it literally makes me nauseous and I can't imagine sitting in that restaurant for hours. If he's particularly sensitive, it could be a disaster from the amount of seafood that will put particulates into the air, especially if it's still a buffet. Cross-contamination would be a definite issue.

Depending on how sensitive his allergy is, just touching things that others have who are eating seafood can be enough to cause a problem. So not just tongs but any surface including chairs or salt/pepper shakers on the table. On the very rare times that I cook seafood for DH at home (and I only will cook breaded seafood to reduce potential particulates and the smell), I have to use separate utensils and if I accidentally touch it with bare hands, I immediately wash my hands. It's not life-threatening for me (or at least hasn't been) but even a small exposure can be hours - sometimes days - of a great deal of unpleasantness.

Again, it would depend of his sensitivity.
My step son can not be in the general area where lobster, shrimp, or crab are cooked…

He Loves salmon, muscles, scollops….

However, he can be around others eating shrimp….

So again the OP is asking I assume, because she wants to be inclusive, to completely exclude this person with out know all the facts of the situation seems …… well you know…

Again I refer to the OP’s question.

“is there anything that he would be able to eat?”

Yes, depending on his sensitivity.

Or will they be able to serve him anything that won't be contaminated by the seafood oil or such?

Again, Yes! Depending on his sensitivity.

The allergy chef will cook a separate off menu meal if needed, in an allergy safe kitchen.

Now, if the boyfriend is like my stepson and would have a reaction walking down the hall….

The even the Yatchman’s has seafood on the menu, but I’m sure the allergy chef again, could cook a meal for him….

Yes, every restaurant in the EP area serves seafood, but a traditional TS is a more, closed environment where the food preparation can be better controlled. I travel with people with allergies ALL THE TIME. I would never take anyone who has an allergy to certain foods to a buffet that specializes in that food. IMHO, it's rude and insensitive. OP asked if he/she should book a different restaurant for DGD and her boyfriend. My opinion and my answer to that question is, yes they should. The real answer is - what does that boyfriend want to do and what is he comfortable with? OP, I would probably give the restaurant info and menu to DGD's boyfriend and ask him what would be safest for him.

So I guess you missed the fact the my step son also has a seafood allergy…. However,

Like I have been saying since my first post the op need more info….

This 👆is probably the best plan. Even if the restaurant can make him something, even if he doesn't have such a sensitivity that he would break out being in close proximity, he may simply be uncomfortable or nervous around so much seafood and may, like me, find the smell impossible to bear for a couple of hours. What's his view on the plan?

As someone who is allergic to all fish (not just shellfish), I'd avoid Cape May. That being said, on our last trip DW and I ate at Flying Fish, so I'm not opposed to eating at a seafood joint on principle (we both had the steak), however, it has to be for a very good reason. FF is said to have the best steak on property and I had to see for myself. I don't think Cape May has anything worth the risk of an allergic reaction, and I'd recommend you find a different restaurant.

I am allergic to fish and not shellfish. I don’t eat at Cape May because it is a buffet with so.much.fish. My allergy is not airborne, and I happily eat at predominantly seafood restaurants. But in a buffet people cross tongs all the time and I don’t want to take the risk. I am fine at Crystal palace or Tusker, and for instance if at CP, it looks like some of the sauce on the salmon might have swished into the Brussels sprouts, they will happily give me some fresh Brussels from the back. But at Cape May I would be scrutinizing every tray, and making sure I knew where the Epipen was in my purse. It would be tense, not relaxing.

Robbie, just for me, when I developed an anaphylactic allergy to fish in married adulthood, it meant my husband only gets fish is a restaurant, as I cannot risk our kitchen. He loves fish, well-prepared. So you will see on this board I started a thread asking about non fish options at FF, and am happy to know I have choices. I can't risk Cape May, but I would FF, so my hubby gets great fish.

Great, I feel for the man, fish is about 40 percent of my diet….

My wife is deathly allergic to beets, I only get to have Beets at work…. I understand….

If you are that allergic to fish, I support your right to skip cape may…… however, if you are that allergic to fish, I would not risk having your steak cooked on the same grill as my octopus….

That is just me…..

In this cape the OP asked if there were other options the answer is yes.

Again, more information would be needed to answer her questions correctly…..

That is my point
