Does anyone have any experience at Sea World with a mild autistic child. We do ok at WDW and assume SW would be similar-just looking for stories I guess from people who have been there, done that.

My DS9 Aspergers loves Sea World (he wants to be a paleontologist) so “decedents” are fun. One of the staff spent almost 30 minutes with him going all through the whale family and all their branches and characteristics and names. I think he would still be there if we had not drug him away so as other people came up they could get a chance.

Our son is 15 and Autistic mostly non verbal. he liked sea world because it didnt seem as crowded. we did get to sit in the handicapped spots when we told them he was autistic, bearing in mind if someone in a wheelchair needed the spaces we would move. They had the usual food there hambugers, pizza etc. and the carts with snacks, sodas ice creams etc. i think one of mikes fav spots was watching the sea turtles and the Shamu show. the only draw back we saw was at the shamu show was getting him up the steep ramp which is hard to walk and crouded.be aware that at the samu show they have a "Soak spot" and it means just that BUT it is icy cold water. he might like it.. he might not. We didnt take the chance. The playground thing they have there is just awasome. bring or wear a swimsuit because it has a huge boat with squirty guns water tunnels etc. there is a smaller area for the little kids and a cart with ice creams drinks etc . there are also carnival type games to play for a fee. my tip is get there early before it gets really crouded and go at off peak times. you dont get a special needs pass like at disney though but most are shows anyways so not needed. not sure what else i can say .I think out of all the theme parks Mike has liked sea world the best for less crouds. Plus he liked looking at Shamu swim underwater in the underwater viewing areas. if you need more help send me a message

I would say the biggest thing to be aware of is where the 'soak' areas are because there will be places you will get soaked.

Also, since there are many shows that are at specific times, it becomes important to know what time the shows are and whether or not it is possible to get from the show you have just finished to the one you want to go to in the time you have.

Our son is 12 and Autistic/non verbal.
We always find Sea World very relaxing and generally spend 1 day there each vacation.

The water play area for children, Happy Harbor, is great.

Overall the park makes a nice contrast to WDW and Universal, and in terms of education it's probably the best.
There are allsorts of wildlife there and many children respond to these in a positve way, Joshua has always enjoyed seeing the Penguins and Puffins for example.
There is a good shopping area there too.
