I was just thinking about Sea World in Ohio the other day. How many of you had gone there? Am I wrong in remembering that they had a tank where you could pet some porpoises? They had a few tanks, one with dolphins -- they were the trained ones and you weren't allowed to pet them, and they also had one with porpoises, but you could pet the porpoises. It was the coolest thing.

Anyway, I grew up going to that Sea World and I really miss it.

I think you are right.

I soooo wish that Sea World was still there. I took my niece and nephew either the year it shut down or the year after. I would love to be able to take my son there. It was so convenient and so cool to have a place like that so close to home.

Another family that misses Sea World-we even had season passes at one point.

The last few years, there was a dolphin tank. They'd toss out a ball and the dolphins would bat it around, that kind of stuff.

Sea World was great. I went there about a million times. Took the kids as soon as they were 1 year old. They loved Sea World.

I really, really miss it. :(

So, you live near there, Sarah? I spent a summer living in Streetsboro with my uncle and aunt, and working at Geauga Lake. I really liked the old park before Six Flags took over.

I'll definitely have to check out Sea World in Florida sometime, but it won't be the same. The one in Ohio was smaller and more intimate. I really loved it.

When I was younger, Sea World was no where near as exciting as Cedar Point ;) ...of course, NOW I realize how lucky we were to go there every year!

My parents live in Geauga Lake/Aurora...it's sad that Sea World wasn't able to get the draw the other parks do...

But it is a nice memory.

The one thing I was always fascinated with were the pearl divers. I always wanted one of those pearls...and never got one:sad1:

We used to go all the time when I was a kid. I loved Geauga Lake also.!!
Such memories!!! Miss it!

I forgot about those! You're right -- they were great.

One thing I always wanted to do was to get chosen to kiss Shamu. Get a big ol' whale lick right on the face.

Oh yeah!!! That would have been cool! Although, my parents were so paranoid, I would have been happy to have been SPLASHED by Shamu!:rotfl2:

My mom would wake us up, once a summer, load us in the car with a picnic lunch, and go to Sea World for the day. Some years that was our vacation, and we were tickled pink to go! I still think it was one of the prettiest Sea Worlds.

I remember going to Sea World in Aurora more than once in my life. I really do miss it. For some reason I can picture the parking lot there quite well.

Oh how I miss Sea World! We went there every year. Then DH and I took the kids when we got married and had our own family. Our kids really miss it too. Last year we took them to SW in Orlando and they loved it! Not the same and much larger but they loved it just as much.

I have a couple of those pearls too. Never had them made into anything though, just sitting around:confused3 .

You guys have made me really nostalgic:sad:

It was a great park! I went there several times growing up with my family - even broke my toe there! ( guess what, we didn't sue, in fact they didn't even know, my parents just dealt with it as an accident when we got home)

My Biology class went there on a field trip. I really miss it and am sorry I never got to take my kids there.

We would go at least once every year. We seemed to have a field trip there for school at least every other year and then we would go as a family every summer as well. It was a lot of fun. I lived in Florida already when it was closed and I was sad to hear about it because it was a great park for people living in that area of the country.

The dolphin show at Cedar Point didn't compare to Sea World! Do they still have that show at CP? It has been 6 years since I have been back to Ohio to go to CP, my DH and I keep saying we should go back for a weekend. We loved Cedar Point!

We used to go for field trips. My parents had annual passes. My brother and I both worked there. It was a fun job.

I miss it also. We used to go there all the time as a kid. The shows were fabulous, the park was clean, and I used to love the pearl diving show. Feeding the dolphins fish was always so much fun. I remember once seeing a show there that had Willie Aames, Todd Bridges, and Scott Baio. After the show, I got to take all their hands, and I swore I would never wash them again(I was an awestruck teen). When I had my own kids, my dh and I decided to take our kids there and what a mistake that was. The shows were very limited and the park was filthy. It was disgusting and such a letdown.

No, sadly the dolphins started dying at CP a couple of years ago. I guess they couldn't figure out why they were dying. The remaining dolphins were sold to another park. Maybe Sea World? :confused3
It was in the news and everything.

Hannathy - we also went on a Biology Field trip to Sea World! Oh the memories!!!:goodvibes

That is so sad. It always puzzled me why a roller coaster park like Cedar Point had a dolphin show...
