SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment has launched a effort to make its in-park restaurants more accommodating to visitors with food allergies.
The Orlando-based theme-park owner said it partnered with the Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network to train more than 6,000 culinary employees across its 10 U.S. parks, including SeaWorld Orlando and its sister parks Aquatica and Discovery Cove.
Among the specific initiatives: Park restaurant managers and supervisors will work one-on-one with guests and oversee preparation of allergen-friendly meals. Guests can fill out "Chef Cards" detailing specific allergies, which can be given to a chef before the meal is prepared.
In addition, SeaWorld says it is expanded menu options to include items such as gluten-free pizza and an allergen-friendly, Shamu-shaped chocolate bar. And it has set up a website detailing allergen-friendly services and downloadable Chef Cards for travelers to use before they visit.
