My DH and I are circling our decision on DVC. Our guide just called to tell us our point discount goes from $10 to $8 if we don't deal by tomorrow. We were invited to the Sea What's Next event (Chicagoland) and from what I could gather that's a good time to buy. He said whatever they offer we can get as long as we attend but we still need to get the ball rolling by tomorrow.

I am really leery because we have been strongly considering a SSR resale. We do like AKV but SSR just makes a lot of sense between point cost and our ease of travel. Even with SSR I think we will be able to try out the resorts as the years go by and then splurge on THV when we have a big group going. The only downside is I would rather finance through Disney instead of TTS.

So essentially what I am wondering is are the offers so outstanding at these events that it would be comparable to a $84 p/p AKV resale? I know they won't be able to touch $65 p/p SSR.

:) I thought when you made contact with a guide those "deals" would stay in place for about 10 days, so you weren't rushed. I would buy at the resort that I loved. I understand that SSR is less expensive, but is that what you really want. If you by from Disney you should get 2009 points for this year if the UY you want hasm't happened yet. Meaning that the extra 2009 points could be banked into 2010...so that maybe you would not need as many points and could buy at AKV if that is where you are saying you want to buy. I think they are letting members buy in for as little as 100 points direct from Disney. DH and I financed our points from Disney as well. It was very convienent and easy.

AKV and SSR are completely different. If the resort matters then buy the one you love and add on later or I am afraid you may be disappointed at times and it is too much money for that. SSR si more of the "condo" type resort and AKV is more the "hotel" or enclosed type. To some peolpe that matters. Home resort didn't matter to me but it sure did to DH. He loved AKV during our first trip and doen't want to resort hop....although he did mention staying at a THV last week....:scared1:....he just doesnt understand the issues with staying there on AKV points....anyway, back to you.

Try to see into the future, will you be happy where you purchase. If I were making the choice today I would by at the one we loved regardless of cost because that was important to DH. Now that I have been there I would never change my mind. It is terrific.

When we were looking to purchase....I wanted to stay in a certain budget. We were going to get 200 points but went with 210 becasue it only affected the notes a few dollars. With the new once a year buy of 24 points for 15$ a point. You could really do well for less points then maybe you thought?? :confused3

:) And if you sold back your 2009 points couldn't you still get an extra $5 off per point for a total of $15 off per point?? Are they still offering that. Those were the last incentives I saw on a new purchase at AKV at DVCNews.com.

We bought our AKV points last June for $93 a point, that is the cheapest I have seen yet, but $97 isn't bad. Again it isn't $65 a point but we are talking --having animals right out the window, right??

Good luck with your decision and if you need any other info about our purchase at AKV as a new owner ourselves just PM me.

Take care. :cloud9:

I would like to know what the deals are being offered at this event as well. Can someone that is going update us that are not able? We are waiting on rofr for vgc now and if that does not go through we may purchase from Disney direct if the price is right. :thumbsup2

Does TTS finance now ?

According to all the email updates I get they do. They have rates on the bottom w/ no prepayment penalty if paid after the first 12 months. We are going to put half down but we would need to finance the other half and I have heard the credit card route is not possible.

I would not recommend Time Share Lending if you need to finance. We looked into it they had much higher rates than Disney and lots of fees plus they were not that friendly to deal with. They are separate than the TSS so nothing against them. Financing with Disney is a piece of cake and we got the cheapest rate while we were gonna get a very high one with TSL. Plus there is none of the waiting for the perfect contract, waiting around for things to finish and any of those extra fees.

;) Plus if your UY hasn't happened yet you may get 2009 points. :cool1: When DH was looking for a loan outside of Disney the lowest he was able to find was 8%.

We are going to the Woodfield Mall presentation Friday. When we went last year they were doing the free cruise with upgrades if we added on points, and approved financing since we were in good standing. We opted to wait, but I am hoping they will have a simialr deal. The cruise alone would be worth it for us since we never have the points or cash to afford that for our family any time soon. Even if you do not buy, the party is terrific, and the food really good! Cheap fun for the family :)

My advice would be: Don't get rushed into a decision by a timeshare salesman !
Your guide is NOT your friend. They are just timeshare salespeople - nothing more, nothing less.

Make your decision on what makes sense for your family - not on what the timeshare salesman happens to be pushing today.

+1

In fact, the second he called to say the discount would be going from $10 to $8 per point, I would of told him "thanks for your call" and ended the conversation.

Let us know how it is and what the offers are. I am still hoping they will have something similar in NY and I will treck down state to go!! Just for that little bit of Disney in my life since my trip is still too far off!

Just got off the phone with Doorway to Dreams on Long Island. The gentleman told me they are looking into doing a presentation like "Sea What's Next" on Long Island in August.:cool1::cool1::cool1: Hopefully it happens.

We bought at SSR a few years back during their family and friends promotion. I read up on everything prior and read many times buy where you want to stay. We bought SSR anyways and since then we've stayed at BWV many times, Beach Club, OKW and just last December I got AKL for a same day stay. And of course we've stayed at SSR too. I've never had a problem getting a reservation less than 7 months out. Maybe I've been lucky, I don't know but I do know I just love owning DVC!
