After reading in a recent "Community News" pamphlet, I signed our family up for a "special sea turtle presentation". I called and made ressies for Monday, July 15th. It will cost us $40 per person with an "adopt a turtle" package. Has anyone ever done this special event? I remember reading on these boards that there is a daily "lottery" to go and see the sea turtles for free. Is this extra money worth it? I read that our presentation is conducted by a staff biologist and that we'll go to a wildlife refuse north of VB. We also need to come up with names for our turtles and that these names will be documented. Anyn thoughts are appreciated!

... your refering to, but as for the "lottery", that really isn't needed. DW and I simply struck out on our own, saw two huge turtles, watch 2nd one finish laying eggs then followed her back into the water. On clear, starry nites the beach is pretty well lite but up near the dunes it's much darker- we never had a moon when we were there. It's easy to spot the tracks made by the turtles,if you see two sets side-by-side you missed it-turtles gone. If you see one set, back away several feet & cautiously move toward the dunes. If youtake a flashlite be SURE IT HAS A RED LENSE, no white lite. Once the turtle starts laying her eggs she goes into a trance like state and will not leave till the job is done. Just be sure you don't disturb them before they start laying because they will head back to the water.
