The thing that surprised me about sea lice stings is that flu-like symptoms can happen. 2 years ago, my oldest got stung on CC around Pelican Plunge. It was a nuisance, and not a fun thing, but some hot splashes of water, a shower, and everything was fine by dinner. This year, my youngest got stung, in just a few spots, fewer than my oldest had 2 years ago. I didn't think anything of it, figuring we've been through this before and it turned out to be a non issue, so we took him to shower off, got him out of his swim suit, promised him some ice cream, and all was right, with the rashes gone by dinner as well. 4 days later, after we got home (thankfully) he developed a fever. I just figure he picked up a virus or whatnot during our travels, and it wasn't a big deal. At one point, the fever was 105, so I made a call to the pediatrician, who suspected strep and wanted him tested. Strep came back negative. Checked both ears, both were fine, no infections, but he still had all of the symptoms of strep and the flu...sore throat, cough, sniffles, fever. They couldn't figure out what was wrong. I'd mentioned that we'd been to the Caribbean just a few days ago, and the doc just figured it was a bug. I can't help but wonder it's a reaction to sea lice stings. We're no where near FL or Caribbean beaches so I wouldn't expect our docs to be familiar with sea lice, much less know what to look for.
