SDMT - Total Disappointment

IMHO the ride is what they said it would be. Its not meant to be an adult RC like EE or Space Mountain. I do however, agree the seats are tight..............and the biggest flaw on an otherwise nice ride.............its at least 90 seconds to short.

This from WDW website sure makes it sound like a Destination Ride to me.

Race through the diamond mine from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs on an adventurous family coaster.

Just like in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, make your merry way across the rolling stone bridges and through a forest where you’ll find the Dwarfs’ cottage and all the stars from the film: Sleepy, Doc, Grumpy, Bashful, Sneezy, Happy, Dopey and, of course, Snow White herself.

Then, grab your lantern and your map, and hold on tight…it’s time to ride into the mine “where a million diamonds shine” on the rockingest, rollingest, twistiest train ride ever!

Feel a rush of excitement, and enchantment too, as you take off on this first-of-its-kind ride system: swinging up and down large lifts, cruising around sharp banks and swaying through exhilarating turns.

So get ready to rock around like never before—there’s all kinds of excitement rocking back and forth through Fantasyland! Don’t miss the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, boarding now at Magic Kingdom park.

I agree with OP. It was a bit of a disappointment. Rode it for the first time last August with FP+. I don't remember much about the ride besides the little scene at the end and that I thought it was really short. To me it's not worth waiting for in standby, I probably would have been more disappointed if I actually had to wait for a while. For my trip this December, I did look for a FP+ for it and got it, but if I wouldn't have gotten it, I wouldn't have been all that upset. The only reason I got a FP+ this time around was because there wasn't really anything else I wanted one for.

I actually liked it way more than I thought I would. I think my expectations were tempered by some saying how disappointing it was. I thought it was a lot of fun. Nothing at all like the Barnstromer, which is a waste of time. It is not worth waiting an hour for though, nothing is.

I'm not sure where the implication that anyone who doesn't think it's that great was expecting a thrill ride. I know I wasn't. What I was expecting was a great, new well done ride that told a full story like the other rides in Fantasyland that the whole family could enjoy together. What we wound up with was a ride that promises a lot and then just abruptly ends. It's a good thing it's a short ride since the seats are so cramped.

I also agree that the adverts for it and Disney's description is very misleading and lead to unreasonable expectations from uninformed guests.

Ok, I'll give you that this is overdone at a certain level...........but "Heigh-Ho".............it's gonna always be a minute and a half to short! :-)

Looks like you've been around long enough not to give credence to BS Disney hype.

:) Of course! I just get tired of people claiming this ride is marketed as a small Fantasyland cute ride designed for kids. It simply isn't. It has been marketed as a headliner.

And it isn't one.

You describe what it is well. :rotfl2:

I would say it is bait and switch.

Or Better, like a Black Friday sale ad. Use it in marketing to entice everyone to the new Fantasyland but only include in small print that the ride books up 60 days in advance.

Just wondering if you don't have a FP what's the average SB wait time for this ride?

I don't understand why they made the seats kid sized. I realize it's a Fantasyland ride but adults ride it. I don't think they wanted to take up more land to make it longer. It's cute but not a thrill ride.

It was botched from the beginning. That space was designed for a meet and greet. But Harry Potter forced them to add a coaster after work had started. If they were smart from the beginning, they could have easily put a larger coaster in New Fantasyland and moved things around or cut back on the Silly Pete stuff.

Disney's just doesn't bring it like they used to at WDW. I agree with previous post, I hope they get the Star Wars Land right. As for Toy Story Land, I fully am expecting two kiddie rides and Pop Century style theming.

When it first opened, I admit the TV ads were very misleading. They REALLY exaggerated the speed of the ride in the commercials, showing it zipping around the curves and down the hills. So Disney does have some blame in raising expectations.

So much this! We rode when it was new and thought we were riding a BTMRR and instead got Barnstormer. I think if it had been sold differently, we would have been a lot happier. We got off and said "oh the two ten second clips are the entirety of excitement in the ride. I enjoyed the gem area, but it was too short.

We won't go back on until our daughter is tall enough to ride. 6 more inches to go.

Uninformed? Wow that's rude. When did you first ride it? You likely had access to more reviews than people who rode when it was newer.

Hmm...well I guess my family and I are on the opposite end of popular opinion. We rode 7DMT 4 times over our visit and loved it everytime. We live walking distance from Six Flags, so we ride coasters quite a bit. It was smooth, the rocking mine train cars were a plus, the new projection assisted animatronics were neat, and the mine portion was fun as well. We even rode it in the rain!
Yes it was short but given the space it's in...I was not expecting Texas Giant length of ride.

I'm with you! Love this ride. It's full of magic and whimsy in my book. pixiedust:

The line is shortest later at night. We can generally ride twice in about 30 minutes during the last half hour of operation even though the posted wait can be 60-100 minutes. The longest standby wait we've had was 20 minutes during opening week in 2014.
