SDMT - Total Disappointment

We waited in line for 50 minutes on an evening magic hours night as we couldn't get fast passes. It was a total and complete disappointment. It was over before I knew it and I couldn't remember anything about it. Will not bother again.

What is Disney thinking? Really -- that is the central new ride of New Fantasyland?

They do that while Universal opens Gringott's Bank?

We actually preferred 7DMT to Gringotts. That's because Mine Train shows you something real, not just screens and 3D. I'm not bashing 3D/screen based rides, but Universal has been relying way too much on that tech for the past several years.

Our family loved this ride. Mind you I'd never stand in line for 60 minutes to ride it (nor would I do so for any other ride), but we went on this one more than any other ride on our most recent trip. Partially because it's one of the few "thrill" rides my twins are tall enough to enjoy, but also because all three kids absolutely loved it. For the space constraints they had and being in Fantasyland I didn't really expect much more.

Uninformed? Wow that's rude. When did you first ride it? You likely had access to more reviews than people who rode when it was newer.

I think you're implying something negative about the word "uninformed" that wasn't intended. What I meant by uninformed is people who only rely on information straight from Disney, including commercials, and not people who read ride reviews from independent third parties. Based on Disney's information cited earlier in this thread--specifically the commercial and the ride description on Disney's website--I think that people who rely on only those pieces of information will have unrealistic expectations because those two pieces of information are so misleading, and disappointment tends to follow unrealistic expectations more than someone with realistic expectations.

7DMT opened in May 2014 and according to my Past Items in MDE, I first rode it on August 30, 2014. So it was still pretty new but with a few months of discussion on here about it, I was well aware of what to expect from it. The first time I rode I knew what to expect thanks to reviews here, so I wasn't disappointed in the ride experience itself (it matched my expectations of the ride) but I was disappointed that this is what Disney made that particular ride into.

It wasn't space constraints. It was the largest expansion in magic kingdom history as all the publicity said. The area went from 10 acres to 21. They had space. It was mismanagement. Disney isn't supposed to make these types of gaffes. They barely escaped a fatal disaster. Can you imagine if the net result would have been a themed toilet, a princess meet and greet, the a terrible dark ride, and themed restaurant that books up 180 in advance. And a second dumbo spinner.

This halfway completed ride saved them even more scathing reviews. I have never read who pulled the plug on the meet and greet and forced the mine train.

The imagineers were stifled in regards to New Fantasyland.

It's fun but it's just a simple, short roller coaster. Nothing special. I agree with some others about the tight seats. I'm a normal sized person and went with my 13 year old son (who weighs 100lbs) and it was tight in that seat.

Fair enough!! I did read a lot on here but I still came out underwhelmed. At the time, there was still A LOT of hype. I just don't get it.

Gee whiz.....I hope the line gets shorter with all this negative talk LOL! We're heading down next month and weren't able to snag Fastpasses at 60 days out! We enjoy the ride, but don't want to wait an hour to ride it. :)

No kidding right??! Practically every ride motion simulator/3D. Those types of rides make me nauseous so I cant really enjoy Universal.

I love 7DMT. The length doesnt bother me. Its one of my fave rides.

Everyone comments on the seat size. How small are they? My family will be trying this ride for the first time in December. My mom is around 175 lbs and 5'3". Will she have issues fitting in? I'd hate for her to be embarrassed and we will just skip it if we have to. Thanks.

I LOVED:

  • The queue
  • How smooth the ride is
  • The animatronics in the mine
  • The effect of the Dwarf shadows as you go up the hill
  • The AMAZING dancing animatronics at the end
  • The witch

I didn't like:

  • The wait
  • I could see the seat size being a problem, though it's not for me

But the wait is too be expected. In all, it's one of my favorite rides in WDW now. Like Splash, it's the complete package. Not the longest ride, but it packs a lot into a short timeframe.

I know from the reviews that we are not going to ride this until after wishes. Not going to sacrifice other rides to stand in line 70 + minutes for this.

I loved it! I never have high expectations except that any ride will be fun. It was fun! With so many people disliking it, maybe the lines will shorten sometime soon.

I agree! I love Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, my daughter and I fit comfortably in the seats and because we are huge Snow White fans, we are of the opinion that the ride is fun, nostalgic, and worth a FP+ and/or waiting in the fun interactive line for. Perhaps those who do not fit into the seat, should request to be seated by themselves.

Unfortunately, as the newest ride in MK, I don't think the waits are going to decrease into something reasonable any time soon. If they put something else that's new in...sure. But until then, I don't think that you're going to be looking at much less than a 45 minute average wait any time of year. Even the wait for the Frozen sisters has normalized, but 7DMT still has long waits for most of the day, every day.

I think she'll be fine because she's short and it isn't like 175 is morbidly obese. Because the way the seats are designed, the taller you are, the worse it is. If you have anything you're taking on the ride with you, just put that in on the floor first, then get in. There is really no way to shove a bag under your legs once you're in the cart because they're too small.

I'm the planner of the family so I had pretty low expectations. My husband knew nothing about it, other than watching its glacial pace of construction over the years since we started going to Disney in 2011. He also knew that FP+s for it were hard to get. When we got off it the first time, he was all "That was it? Why did it stop abruptly like that? It seems like there should be more to it." But on the flip side...he's 6'4" and said it's probably good it's not longer than it is because his legs don't quite get a chance to cramp up since the ride duration is so short.

The kids love it, so I'm stuck doing the acrobatics to make sure we get at least two rides/day in on it. It did help my youngest get over his fear of putting his hands up on a roller coaster, so I do appreciate that. :)

Overall, I really, really enjoy the ride but it's not something I would ever wait more than 20 minutes for. We always get lucky & snag FPs for it but once jumped in the standby line when it said 20 minutes, but we waited over 60. I know that definitely happens, but that just solidified we would never wait that long for it via standby.

I think she will be fine! I agree with jtowntoflorida - I think the seat issue is more to do with longer legs than anything else. My boyfriend and I are both 5'9 and our knees barely miss skimming the front of the car, but when we start going we definitely knock them against everything. That's where the uncomfortable issue comes in for us. If you have anything you need to put in with you like a purse, I agree to do so first because once you get in there is very little leg room to maneuver around, but at 5'3 that may afford more room than at 5'9 for me.

I'm only 5'8", but I'm short-waisted, so my legs are as long as my DH who is 6'2" tall. Having long legs interferes with all sorts of rides. One of my favorites is "It's a Small World." For the first time ever on our recent trip, we had to sit in the last row which has less leg room. My knees were practically next to my ears. It was painful and impossible to enjoy the ride. DH complained about the small seats on 7DMT, so I'd probably be just as uncomfortable.

I wish rides were designed for all sizes, not just average and petite sized individuals.

Don't even get me started on airline seats.
