SDFP: CHANGES COMING!! Beware the 7th of June?!

My family and I already have two sets of prior MB. On our next trip in December is there a way to use those as phantom MB. They are still active but not sure I can change them to another name so I can get same day FP
Merging you to the SDFP thread.

Another question that I am sure is already in here...

We will have two grandparents who likely will not go to most of the parks. One might not even buy park tickets and might just hang at the resort. The two teens in our group could use those MBs to pull SDFP, correct?

Yes.

I have my old RFID park ticket cards from a previous trip. How does this work? I will create more people in my MDE account for those cards. Do I then link those cards to the add-ons in my profile? I guess I'm not sure how those old ticket cards become linked with the new "friends" in my profile.

I've never used a FP+ kiosk before, so I apologize for the dumb questions.

It would make a lot more sense for you to read the first post of this thread than for anyone to retype it here. You'll find step-by-step instructions there for everything SDFP. You may discover that your old RFID cards are already linked to your MDE. The first post of the thread will walk you through it all.

First, thank you so much for putting this together. That was a very informative and hugely entertaining read. I've spent several hours reading through this and it all makes sense, but I want to check my understanding on one thing.

The FAQ says to create phantom guests on my MDE to assign the new SDFP MBs to. It also says that assigning a phantom guest if you have a package doesn't make sense unless they are under 3.

I also read a post (quoted below) that says for SDFP you don't need to add a phantom guest to the reservation, just to the MDE.

So I want to make sure I am correct about the following:
  • The comment about not adding a phantom guest to a package is only in regards to adding extra people to a reservation in order to get free magic bands.
  • If I add phantom guests to my MDE by going to My Family & Friends, clicking Add a Guest, and selecting By Entering His or Her Name, this DOES NOT add them to my package, just to my MDE, and it will not result in me having to pay for extra tickets.
  • The guest I add in the above way can be any age.
I don't want to risk added anyone to my reservation.

Thanks again.

To whom do I link the SDFP bands (or cards) on my MDE?
Set up alter ego or "phantom" guests on your MDE, to whom you'll assign the new bands.

What if I have a package? If you have booked a package, the idea of adding a phantom won't make sense as each guest must have a ticket. Unless you add a guest under age three - that should work since a guest under age three doesn't need a ticket.

I have newly purchased MagicBands (or cards) I need to link so I can use them for SDFP. How do I set up phantom profiles on my MDE?
Sign into your MDE and go to the My Family and Friends page. Click on "Add a Guest." On the next page, toggle "By entering his or her name." Type in the alter ego name and for the age, just say 16 or 17. You'll be managing their profile, obviously. (If you give the age as 18+ and later decide to add that phantom to a resort reservation, you'll have to pay extra - for someone who isn't actually even in the room.)

To get MB's free, yes. Just for SDFP though, they don't need to be on your room reservation, just linked on MDE (and really not even that unless you want to view the SDFP's you make at the kiosk). So you could buy MB's and then just link them as phantoms and use those bands for SDFP.

The system doesn't allow you to add a guest to your resort reservation, once you've made it. You'd have to call guest services to add or remove guests. So no worries there.

The phantom guest can be any age.

Sounds as though you've got it figured out - time well spent!

Ok, so I reread the first page. I had read it before, but must have missed that part. I found it.

I've discovered the account the old RFID cards are linked to and it IS adifferent MDE account than our current tickets and profile. There should not be any overlap or cloning.

I downloaded the MDE app to my husband's phone and logged in using the MDE old account. My phone has the new MDE account. So, I can manage the real FP and my husband can manage the SDFP we pull using the old cards. Correct?

Ok perfect. I just wanted to make sure. Thanks so much!

So, I'm going too:
  1. Create 3 phantom guests on my MDE.
  2. Buy 3 unlinked "phantom" MBs from the disney store or at the park when I arrive.
  3. Link one phantom MB to each of the 3 phantom guests.
  4. Schedule SDFPs.
  5. Use my phantom MBs only for SDFPs and primary MBs for everything else.
  6. Not mess up my current Fps or package resort reservations and tickets.
:upsidedow

Your scenario is perfect - no risk to current FPs or tickets.

It would be a good idea to buy a distinct color for the SDFP bands - or mark them with a Sharpie. You don't want to accidentally have a Photopass photographer tap one of the SDFP bands. And you don't want to accidentally give one of the SDFP bands to someone who needs to open the door of your resort room. Other than those small issues, there are no risks.

Thanks so much for confirming and for the tips. I really appreciate it.

Glad the cards aren't clones!

Only one very slight correction: you can't "manage" (change) SDFP online. But you should be able to view them on your husband's MDE. Let us know how it goes.

I wanted to try and locate some expired ticket cards on eBay that I could use for SDFP. However, I can't seem to get a good hit when I search. Do you have any advice for what to type in that would get me what I'm looking for? I end up getting hits for tickets, but nothing that's being sold as a souvenir.

I think I may have messed up I'm here now. I bought magic bands in the park. Waited to link. At the kiosk they weren't working. The cast member said I had to link them to make them work. I had already set up a fantom account. I chose that because we are a party of 6 and I wanted to see it separate from my other six. in the app, it says I can't add fast passes I have to purchase a ticket. The machines weren't working for me to add any. Thoughts?

Did you link the ID #s from the back of the MBs to your phantoms?

If you haven't done that step, you won't be able to access FPs at the kiosk.

The linking has to be done, one band at a time, on the phantom MDE (which you have set up with six phantom profiles?), but you can never use the app to make SDFP - as you found, it will say you have to have a linked ticket for that. However, the bands should work at the kiosks once you've linked them. Let us know.

General question for you based upon previous experiences. Have you found that in most cases, the availability for SDFP when arriving at rope drop is usually pretty decent? I don't expect to get SDMT when we check the kiosk at 930AM, but am hoping to find things like POC, jungle cruise etc and save my own FP for the headliners. Thank you.
