SDFP: CHANGES COMING!! Beware the 7th of June?!

OK, so I think I've got this...read all posts prior to this one.

I ordered a couple of magic bands from the Disney Store. I added 2 phantom guests on my family and friends page. After receiving the new bands, I will then link them to the 2 phantom guests.

That is it? I can then use them at kiosks in the parks on the days of my visits?

Are there ever any circumstances where Magic bands not linked to any media/tickets would not work at the kiosks for SDFP? I have a coworker who offered us their Magic bands from a trip they took back in 2014. However, he says his wife told him to let me know that she called Disney previously to deactivate the bands and was told they are now just souvenirs and can not be linked, so they didn't know if the bands would will be any use to me? I recall a question being asked previously about a similar situation, but I wasn't sure if there was any possible circumstance where an old band wouldn't work for SDFP? We don't need to link these and will just take a picture of the SDFP we make at the kiosks, so I wanted to ask the question again. Thanks!

With all due respect, you'll have much better luck with SDFP if you reread the first post of the thread.

You can't unlink a band.

Deactivating a band does not mean you've unlinked it. It's still linked. You can't link it to anyone else.

Deactivating a band does not prevent SDFP use with that band.

Newly purchased bands that have never been linked will not work for SDFP until they've been linked.

Stolen bands cannot be linked and will never work for SDFP.

All other bands, once linked, will work for SDFP until the loophole starts to close.

All of which information is in the first post of the thread.

Thank you. I'm certainly comfortable with SDFP and the process after reading the entire post (def not very daunting, especially for those who don't need to create phantoms with new bands and would simply be using those from others not going), but given how "confident" she was in the fact that it may not be helpful to us when I took up his offer, I figured I would ask anyways to make sure I wasn't missing anything. She politely said she knew ALL the Ins and Outs, to which I didn't want to get into any back and forth since they were doing us a favor by giving us their old bands, so rather make sure I wasn't missing these "Ins and Outs" she spoke of :)

Safe to say, I'll be bringing their bands with us and should hopefully have no issues.

Sounds as though she would make a good guest services CM! :)

And you're all set for a great trip!

Our 3 unlinked yellow magic bands have arrived and are now linked to our phantoms!!

I figured it was easier to keep track of the SDFP bands all being the same color.

We are all set for the SDFP adventure in 87 days!!

Thank you for this wonderful thread and helping me wrap my head around this extra magic! I'll be sure to report back after the trip!

I agree. I made all of our SDFP MBs green since none of us had picked green for our main MBs but the green will look good with the colors we chose. I didn't want to have plain gray. Blah!

Scrapyap, you are wonderful! This is all fantastic information.

I want to make sure I have it right- especially on "reassigning".

I buy MNSSHP tickets, and when it asks me who is using them, I enter phantom names.
I then can book same day FP+ from the kiosk inside the parks every day of our trip with those MNSSHP cards except that for the day of the party, I can go ahead and book that one day on my MDE at the 30 day mark using the phantom names from my list.
And the main question--- I do NOT need to re-assign the tickets back to OUR real MDE names on (or before) party day--- we will already be in the park that day on our regular tickets/magicbands already so we would go to the wristband station and then just hand them the physical MNSSHP cards we got in the mail to get our wristbands (and if we weren't already in the park, then we would just give them the physical MNSSHP cards at the gate to get wristbands).

I mostly just want to make sure I don't need to re-assign the tickets into our real names before the party! Thanks!!!

You're right, you don't have to re-assign the tickets to your real names for the party. And you should have no problems. However, if it does turn out that there's any kind of glitch and a CM with a tablet comes over, it could be complicated to explain. So definitely have the phantoms share your real last name. And maybe give each phantom a name that's essentially a nickname of each real name. Just in case. After the party, you can change the phantom names back to something completely unique. For SDFP, it never matters what the name is (and you want the phantom names to be distinct from real names). But with party tickets, you're going to use the cards for admission on the night of the party, so it just seems like better policy to make the phantom sound an awful lot like you. For party tickets, you want doppelganger phantoms! Hope that makes sense.

So?? How's it working?
IT WORKED :yay:
and when I tell you if I can do this, anyone can, I mean it!!! I am the most uninterested tech person in the world!! All I did was pick up some old bands from my sister, put them in a Baggie, and scanned them when I got to magic kingdom and it worked!!!

I am so happy right now!! Not only did I prove to my IT engineer brother-in-law that i am not an idiot, but also to his two friends he brought in on the debate who all thought I was delusional!!! Yay!!!! (On a related note....will it take the gloating over the top if I show them video of me using the rogue bands?!? Haha)

DIS WINS!!!!! WHOOO HOOOO

I post on other Disney groups and when I suggest this to someone I'll frequently get dismissive replies telling me they KNOW you can't do that. Particularly when I mention using my kids' AP's to book FPP in advance and then use while at the park (while the college-aged kids all live elsewhere most of the time). After awhile it's just not worth arguing and I let them think they're right and continue to benefit from what I "know" (not just think I know) does work. ;)

My family and I already have two sets of prior MB. On our next trip in December is there a way to use those as phantom MB. They are still active but not sure I can change them to another name so I can get same day FP

Reporting back. SDFP & GLFP worked beautifully. One thing to note (and I know this may not always be the case, but maybe with the 3rd theater it might??). I made my GLFP for Soarin as we were all adults, Frozen wasn't a priority. Getting Soarin with SDFP was not an issue when I got to the park at 10 am. There were several times to choose from. Of course I couldn't get Frozen and after riding Soarin a few times I decided to do stand by for Frozen. It was a 70 minute wait. Not too bad but I was wished I'd used my GLFP for it.
Also I did not realize you cannot choose the same first tier ride after you use your initial FP. Since Frozen, Test Track & Illuminations were unavailable, I attempted to get Soarin. I got a message "Not so fast, you've already had a FP for this experience, please make another selection." My other choices were all 2nd tier of course and they were walk on anyway.
Thanks ScrapYap, Hiro & marciemi for all the information!

Just clarifying - you got this message before you'd used both of your two Tier 2's, right? Because I've definitely used 3 FPP's and then got another for the same attraction. Wondering if this is a recent change or you just hadn't used all 3 (although I don't think you would have been trying for a 4th then).

I can't remember if I canceled them or if they had expired. I think I cancelled them but not 100 per cent sure. I know if I didn't cancel they were definitely expired as I'd made them for early morning and attempted to get Soarin in the afternoon. Since I had Soarin as SDFP on other bands I just moved on.

This might be a very dumb question, so sorry in advance...

Will room keys from Disney Swan also work for SDFP?
