We are thinking of getting the Costco CityPass which includes 1 day to either the zoo or the wild animal park? I have never been to either one, which is better? We have kids that are 1 and 3 if that makes a difference.

I've been to both several times so here is my 2 cents...

Zoo- free parking, lots of different types of animals, hilly so you will get a stroller workout, closer to the ocean so more even temperatures, looks like natural enclosures, but with limited space, one of the best zoos we've seen. The tram there isn't worth it since you don't really see the animals well. Seems rushed.

Animal Park- charges for parking, hilly also so you will get a workout, more spread out so lots of walking, is inland so weather is more extreme, has a small water splash area for kids, cool playground for kids and lots of fake creatures to climb on, very pretty caroseul for I think $2, loads of animals with lots of space, beautiful to see, not a lot of shade for most of it, tram ride is very worth it! It is one of my favorites also.

I would say to go w/ the zoo. There's a bigger variety of animals (I'm probably saying that bc of the pandas and they're my fave) and you definately can't see those at the WAP. I actually like doing the tram at the zoo bc you can see a lot of the zoo w/out walking & you'll also get to use the express bus where you can go to certain spots to re-visit the animals. There's also a children's zoo that your kids might like and there's a petting zoo inside there too. I actually like going into the children's zoo myself bc they have the cutest animals in there (excluding the bug exhibit)! HTH.

Thanks for your replies!

The Zoo is much better in my opinion. The Wild Animal Park does not offer as many animals. The Zoo has more trees/landscaping, more shade, and they have panda bears, polar bears, koala bears, more unique animals.

Have Fun!
