Any scuba experts out there? I have my basic certification but now I need to get my advanced. Can you tell me the major differences between the 2? I know I could probably google it but I'm lazy.

You get a lot more dives in during the class and will be certified to go deeper. I think that with the basic you are supposed to stay above 60 feet and with the advanced you can go down to 150 (although it may be 130, I don't have it all in front of me right now). You also get more rescue training.

If you can, I would recommend getting it through a college. The class will be semester-long and you get lots more training than those you get through a dive shop.

It's been a while since I got my advanced open water. But from what I remember, in advanced we learned underwater navigation, we did a boat dive, and went to approx 80-100 feet. I'm pretty sure that 150 is too deep. . . this is more of a technical dive that would require more advanced skills, in addition to nitrox and mixed-gas certification.

150 might be too deep (like I said I don't have my dive tables in front of me or anything). I may also be mixing it up with nitrox safety limits (btw, I totally recommend getting nitrox certified too)

ETA- OK, I just googled the NAUI dive tables and it is 130 and not 150.

Thanks for the help. It was hard for me to get basic and now it seems this will be much harder. AH well, what we do for the love of dolphins.

When I got my advanced cert, we did night dives, deeper dives (we went as far as 120ft), underwater navigation, and some narcosis tests.
