Screen Door or Grocery Service?

We are goingto be doing some minor cooking (mostly breakfast) this holiday trip at BWV. I plan on bringing non-perishable items in our suitcase but I do need to purchase items such as: 2 gallons milk, eggs, bread, 12 pack of water, a few liters of soda, fresh fruit. Am I better off buying at Screen Door or paying a Grocery Service such as greengrocer? Are the food items that overprices at Screen Door? Thank you!

Probably cheaper to purchase some of those items at the Hess station across the street. We walk over there to buy soda every trip. 12 pack for same price of a 2 liter at Screen Door.

We just use the Screen Door for perishables and buy as we need. If we want a case of water or soda, we consider walking to the Hess station. But usually just opt for the SD for those, too. We don't drink much soda and I do not find the WDW water all that bad, though.

Unless you need a lot of items, you have to figure in the service charge & tip for a delivery service to your cost comparisons..

The prices are more expensive than at home, but IMO, they aren't so bad that paying them exceeds the cost of a delivery service, at least for a few perishables. We bring some non-perishables from home, too. Have learned over the years not to bring or buy too much. We just end up throwing things out or leaving the unopened things for housekeeping.

You will most likely be under $100 and the service fee is $24.00 for Wegoshop, plus tip. We have used that service a few times in the past and had good eperiences.

For the extra $35, I personally find it easier and more convenient to place one order and have it all delivered at once so it is there when you need it. Especially with fruit!!

We've successfully used Garden Grocer a couple of times, but like Jim says, you need to have a large enough order to justify the delivery charge. Things are fairly expensive in Screen Door. I like the idea of walking over to Hess; I had never thought of that before and will have to keep that in mind for next trip.

PS - Hey, Jim ... I see you're three posts ahead of me. Looks like we're both working towards our 50! ha

I agree as well, Delivery fee and Tip does make the SD sound MUCH cheaper. We usually get what we need from in there and do a small amount of cooking mostly breakfast stuff. Shawnpirate:

We usually just bring lots of breakfast items with us like pop tarts or granola bars and eat on the run. We would much rather sleep in a bit and get to the parks at opening. The biggest thing we spend money on is water bottles for my mother, as she's quite picky about her water.

What we don't eat we keep in our Owners Locker, as I usually will be back fir another trip before they expire. If we need anything else, we usually will suck it up and buy from the stores at the resorts, as it would be cheaper than renting a car or using a service for our short trips.

I would definitely plan a run over to the Hess Station for water and soda. It's a lot cheaper than the screen door. The last time I went over there, I brought my empty suitcase with me to carry all my stuff back.

Taking the suitcase is a great idea! I will probably borrow that one during a 3 day trip we're taking at the end of January.
