Screaming on the Haunted Mansion

I have often wondered if the HM had a pre-recorded scream track. When the doom buggy is going through the graveyard, the screams always sounded the very same way each time. The screams sound identical at those pop-ups. Can anyone comment on this ?

I would take screaming in HM over the OVER ABUNDANT FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY in Pirates... I left Pirates BLIND from all the flash photos taken...

And the picture takers were NOT teens... just inconsiderate, no nothing about low light photograghy, adults.

I don't care what ride it is - that obnoxious scream (not the legit "holy crap this ride is getting me" scream, LOL - those are always fun, give you a good laugh if it's not you having something pop out at you LOL!) gets under my skin. It's always kids/teens trying to one up or make their friends laugh, so the more the friends laugh the more they do it and the louder they get. We were stuck leaving Epcot during Illuminations near one such group (Pop Warner cheerleaders). EVERY explosion, one girl would give a bloodcurdling scream and her friends would break into hysterical laughter. We ended up hanging back to let them get way ahead of us.

:confused3 OH I KNOW. You're sitting in the dark trying to watch the skeleton pirate steer his ship and some dude behind you is going..click, click, click.

Also, I would like to say that I'm completely fine with screaming because you are scared! But what I've encountered on HM yesterday and many times before are relentless, blood curtling screams from teens from beginning to end. It just never ended. I usually try to avoid these kind of folks but they were already in their doom buggie and we were queued up. And even though I know I'm not in a private ride, and I could ride again, I chose that time to ride and I shouldn't have to worry about losing my mind or my hearing on the HM.

Now those rides are different. I'd constantly be screaming on the first two, and every drop on SM.

But Haunted Mansion? THAT'S obnoxious.

I have to disagree and say that those rides aren't different depending on where the screaming is occuring...on our last trip, there were people screaming obnoxiously on BTMRR as soon as we pulled out when nothing was even happening yet (we had not even started going up the hill...) and continued throughout the entire ride until the second we pulled back in. Obviously yes, we all screamed on the drops and fast turns...but there was no reason for screaming at other points...it really takes away from others being able to enjoy the ride.

Ah yes..... shades of Pop Warner week...... those teenage cheerleaders strike again. It's a wonder they have any voices left to yell with for their own competitions! For me, riding with a group of Pop Warner cheerleaders is scarier than any ride in Disney!!! :scared1:

Yes it happens. Yes it's annoying. Luckily, you can go on it again and the screamers will be gone. As my brother always says, "You're not in a private room at the Hilton!" ;)

But thats not the point....the point I think the OP was making and I agree with is that when did it become all right for people to act like complete idiots with little common sense and just a modicum of respect for others?

I may have missed the memo that common courtesy was no longer needed.

:guilty: My DH may be guilty of screaming just to hear himself, or in the attempt of trying to entertain (or frighten) others around him. If you were near us (hasnt been lately) I am sorry :confused3

Teenagers at the parks tend to annoy me (and technically I still am a teenager)!

My DH's first time on HM wasn't ruined by teenagers inside the ride, it was somewhat ruined by two teenage CMs (CP I suppose). They were the stretching room CMs and the entire time the Ghost Host was talking they were running around the room banging on the walls and screaming something about "teacups." :furious: DH didn't get to hear any of the preshow which made it harder to understand the ride. We're going to try again this year and hope they have some more mature CMs.

I guess I missed the memo too.

In all the years, in all the trips and in all the times I have been on this ride I have never heard people screaming.....

I recall a thread about Soarin', where a DIS'er reported that a group of teenagers, who started screaming as soon as the ride started (for no reason, BTW - just to be 'funny') were stopped by the CM's. What they did was stop the entire ride, turn the lights on, bring the ride down, and escort the screamers out (to thunderous applause, I expect).

I'd just love to see that :teeth: ! I know rides aren't 'private rooms at the Hilton', like one poster said his brother or someone said, but still, common courtesy should be the rule of the day. My pet peeve is when idiots take flash pictures on dark rides. I just hate that.

I posted about this when I returned from our trip in March.

When we were in the stretch room, there was a group of teenagers who kept doing this. When the light went out, they all let out very loud screams and really frightened a lot of the small children in the room.

When the doors opened, we held back and let them push their way to the front. I wanted to be far, far behind them, because I knew they were going to be obnoxious on the ride. The CM stayed in there with us (and another couple who stayed back for the exact same reason) and he was just as irritated as we were.

Hahaha! I was thinking the same thing. You can ride the ride these days with almost no wait. I'd just do it again. :thumbsup2

What is it with teenagers? I know that all teenagers aren't like this as I know some very intelligent, well behaved teenagers and I certainly didn't act like that or my Mom wouldn't have let me hear the end of it. And it seems to get worse and worse EVERY year. The rides don't so much bother me as the pushing and shoving of said demographic. Among other not so savory incidents.

That's the problem. Their mothers aren't with them.

I absolutely hate it! Once, my brother yelled at the teens and told them to shut up as others were trying to enjoy the ride, and they finally got quiet. It's definitely annoying.

True enough - however why should one have to do that?

I like when the CM's will 'get' somebody just as the doombuggy is about to enter the ride at the start!! :scared1: :thumbsup2

When I was little, the HM terrified me, as did any sort of haunted thing. As I've gotten older (now 32) I enjoy the HM, but the guys jumping out at the graveyard scene still gets to me. Anyway, a few years ago (like early 2000) I wasn't "afraid" of HM any longer. At the time WDW had that program where you could pay so much and the park would stay open later for Disney hotel guests (sorry, can't remember the name). Well, the park was pretty empty and my fiance and I went on HM. We get on the moving platform and this CM is staring at me in this creepy way, but I just ignore him. I'm the first one in the doom buggy and next thing I know the CM jumps out on my side!! :scared1: I swear I almost peed in my pants! Needless to say, I was terrified the rest of the time thinking that it would happen again, and a few minutes into the ride it stops and a LIVE announcement comes on saying that there are real ghosts in the ride! :faint: Well, I made it out alive and still to this day do the HM, but I'd prefer never to have that experience again!

My dd loved this ride until very recently. While at DL we were waiting in line very excited to be going on HM. Well once we entered the stretch the screaming started and did not stop until the doors opened for us to get to the doom buggies. This had my normally hm loving kid literally shaking in her boots! Now I can see how a few screams in HM are appropriate, fun even but to scream with out stopping is overkill. Now my dd refuses to go on this ride because of the screamers. She asks me if they will be there and in all honesty I have to tell her I do not know and so she has refused to go on the ride.
It really is too bad that this ride has been ruined because of a few annoying screamers.

So please if you feel the need to scream please do so in a respectful way to those around you!
