but you would eat a hot dog? Just wondering, because it is basically the same idea.
Actually, I don't eat hotdogs either. I know its hard to believe but its true...I just dont like them...plus the fact my grandpa always called them "lips and butt holes" <shiver>

shame on you.... you live in scrapple country!

Yes I know, my dad (full Pennsylvania Dutch) loves the stuff, my mother prefers souse.

As for hotdogs, I only eat beef hotdogs and not all that much.

Nope, that's not scrapple. I know what you're talking about. Don't they call that "head cheese?" Scrapple is sold right next to the bacon and sausage in square blocks.

No Souse is what it is called, head cheese is something entirely different.

Grew up eating scrapple, dipped in flour and pan fried. Loved it as a kid. Went thru an adult stage where i thought about it and wouldn't eat it. So my kids haven't had it since my grandmother died. now I want some.

I love lebanon bologna. PLEASE don't tell me any disgusting stories about it. :rotfl:

Gross, gross, gross. but my family loves it......blah!!!!

i saw it once and read the ingredients....made me want to puke just reading it!!

I grew up on scrapple in PA dutch country (dad spoke PA Dutch) and I can't get it here in Michigan - I so love scrapple! And lebanon bologna is so good too - now that I have seen in my supermarket's deli counter occasionally (unsliced - have to request it). I visited Philadelphia for a convention - went to Penn Station, sat down and had a plate of scrapple with butter and syrup - yum... Papa Deuce, I'm with ya on this one!!! You have a scrapple-supporter here!

I guess if you grow up with it, it doesn't seem so strange.

I was "raised" with scrapple (only RAPA brand will do) so I like it; however, if it were one of those food that I didn't try as an adult, I'm sure I would hate it and never touch it.

I'm with Christine. Scrapple is a special treat around here (think Christmas morning) but the only kind we'll eat is Rapa original. The Rapa beef tastes terrible.

I grew up with it and I think it's :crazy2: :crazy2: But then again, I watched them make it when I was young. :rotfl:

Christine=Poor man's pate??

Naww, that would be Liverwurst!

I picked "Like" because I only cook it for DH & I a few times a year.
Never floured it tho, I'll have to try that.

Used to eat it all the time when I lived up north as a kid. With syrup.

I have no idea what exactly it is--but have no plans to ever have it again.

ETA: Now that I read everyone's posts--I ate it when I lived in Pennsylvania--is this a PA thing?

Scrapple is ground up pig snouts and other stuff, mixed together with a cornmeal and formed into a loaf (it is seasoned also). You then slice it and fry it for breakfast. I'm not sure it's any worse than eating sausage or hot dogs. Well, maybe it is.

EWWWWWW!!! And I ate this stuff.

Pig snout???

Okay--definitely not eating it again!
(family does all beef or all pork hot dogs---nothing with random pig or cow parts).

Well--it was delicoius at the time....I'll just have to stick with scrapple memories.

It is also an Eastern Shore (Delaware/Maryland) thing. If you go to any restaurant at the beaches there, you will see it on the menu--along with cream chipped beef.
