I have never done a scrapbook and thought that for my Mom's 60th birthday I would do a memory scrapebook for her of my dad. My dad passed away 1 1/2 years ago and she does not have a lot of pictures of him. I do have some that my husband is scanning into the computer to print. Where do I start??? I want this to be really special. Especailly she We just lost Grandma(her Mother) on Saturday!!! Oh did I mention her Birthday is April 18th!!! We are having a surprise party on the 24th of April so I need to have it done by then!!! HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hi, you might want to look though the galleries on some of the scrapbook sites just for ideas.

www.twopeasinabucket.com

www.lifetimemoments.com

www.scrapbook.com (the layout gallery might be in the community section)

What size album are you doing? If you don't have a lot of pictures you could do a 6x6 album. They are pretty quick. It would depend of course on the size of the pictures you have. :D maggie

I'd suggest 2 Peas, also. There are some very talented people on there with tons of ideas.

Good luck with your scrapbook. I'll bet it turns out wonderful. :)

I actually have some 12x12 alblums at home. I have pictures to look through as well so I am sure I will find enough. It is just sooo confusing where to start!!!

Perhaps you could add some journalling of your memories of him or the two of them.
I think this is a great idea. I'm sure she'll love it!

I think some of the galleries (like 2Peas) can be overwhelming to a new scrapper, especially one on a deadline. If I were going to advise someone in your situation, I would suggest having a look at the following link:

This is a link to pictures of layout sketches done by Becky Higgins. There are several dozen there and they are great for inspiration. They're basically no-fail formulas for classy, classic pages. I think they're a great "jumping-off" point!

HTH a little! :)

My sister helped me do an album for my FIL's service. We selected just a sample of the many photos. She was able to put them together pretty quickly. Most of the pages just had a color or shape to bring the pages together. Nothing fancy but it turned out very nice.

I was glad she was here to help because I don't think I could have gotten it done.

We did groups of photos with a common theme, his family, her family, travel, grandkids, etc. We didn't journal but really didn't have time. The wedding pics were in front and the most recent in the back but the most weren't in any particular order.

It would be a good idea to start out with a plan, depending on how far back you have pictures of. For instance, was your dad in the service? Do you have pictures of him and your mom while they were dating? Is the album going to be strictly just pictures of your dad, or are you going to include photos of the whole family, dad, mom and children? Once you determine this it will be easier. Maybe you could start out with a page of pictures of your dad when he was single, and then one of your mom, then a page of them together dating, or from their wedding, then add photos of your dad with you, and your siblings if there are any. Then pictures of special occasions, holidays, birthdays, graduations, any special pictures with your dad in them? Do you have any anniversary pictures of your mom and dad? That would make a nice page. Whatever you do, keep in clean and simple since you don't have alot of time. Decide which pictures should go together, if you have a really special picture of your dad, maybe you could enlarge that and devote one whole page to that picture. Someone, (can't remember her name) just posted a link to an album she did for her sister's wedding. She didn't have alot f time, and did a simple, yet elegant album. Use some of her ideas as to how to layout your pictures. Good luck.:D Hope this was of some help.

Jiminy, I just bumped up a thread with a similar subject from laast summer. I've done two memory books & the recipients really appreciated the books. I am sure your mom will, too.

Sort you photos into groupings...

as stated above

Dad single
Mom single
wedding
children
family trip/vacations
family holidays
etc.

then find a color theme for yourself. Pick two colors you think you would like and stick to those for the entire book. Buy plenty of paper in those colors. This will simplify your needing to make decisions constantly on which color to use for what. You can add a third color paper in a simple design.

Make use of borders and headers, journaling boxes, stickers that coordinate with the activity. Keep it simple. Do you know anyone in your area with CM page ideas or crop talks? Those show very quick and easy ways to get a page done. Check out Creative Memories website under ideas for some simple steps to scrappin.

Also save your journaling for when your finished. Get the pictures in the book, add the stickers and then journal when your not so stressed about completeing the album.

I just did my wedding album and found it much easier using the two color method. It gave me one less thing to think about. I journaled on my computer in a nice script and matted the journaling entries and added them to the book. You can do this or hand write which is more personal.

Another fun touch is to have some relatives join in the fun. Have them write a memory of your parents together and add any pictures they might have. Then you add the items to your book. It will get you some extra pages, extra pix and extra memories. Hope this helps a bit.
