I'm not sure I'm calling it by its correct name, but it seems to be a heat-emitting gadget that upon sprinkling the special embossing glitter to an inked rubber stamp pattern, it magically fuses it and creates and "embossed" design...does anyone own such a thing?

Do you like it? I'm wondering if a hairdryer with a special attachment might not do the same thing...:o

Thanks for any insight into this scintillating question.;)

EDIT: Also, are there any other methods to "set" the embossing glitter other than the one I tried to describe above with the inkpad and rubber stamp? Thanks.:)

:( I don't have any scintillating insight on this. I like the way you Ethel/Lucy think of things to get around things though.;)

Well, you know what a skinflint Fred is. ;)

The heat gun you speak of is much hotter than a hair dryer. An hair dryer does not work for the embossing melt.

Oh, nuts.;) Thanks, diane.:)

I read on a scrapbooking message board of someone using their toaster. But I don't think I'd recommend that approach.

do NOT use a hair dryer! it will blow the embossing powder everywhere!!

I have one and I got it at a yard sale but you can buy them at Michaels and even Taregt for around $20.

I have one of them...I think I got it at Michaels using one of their coupons. I haven't totally figured out the whole embossing thing yet, but the few things I've done I've liked!!

I actually embossed all my Christmas card using a toaster. I, of course, stood watching it that whole time. I did not start a fire, but thought about that with each card. I did not know a tool even exsisted for this purpose. The toaster does work, but I would not walk away from it for even one second!

If you are only doing one project and won't be needing this tool in the future then I would use to the toaster to emboss. It does work but it takes a lot longer and you have to be very careful so that you don't start a fire or anything.

Boo,
do ya want us to take up a collection and buy you an embossing tool??? I could always go sell some roadkill and raise the funds........

I don't emboss in my scrapbooks - too lazy, I just buy the paper ready made.

I emboss very rarely so I just use my toaster oven (low to medium heat with the door open) and keep an eye on it. Paper won't spontaneously catch fire until it's over something like 250º so it's ok to do it this way.

 I have to roll my eyes at myself...I could just imagine myself with the hairdryer, the look on my face as the lightbulb went on...of course the glitter would blow everywhere!!!:o:o:laughing:

Does it take very long for the toaster oven to do the job? Not that this sounds like a safe option for me....:o

Pam! Don't sell all the roadkill! We can use the embossing wand to heat up teenytiny roadkill hors d'oeuvres...Kim can kelp!;) Hi Kim.

In the olden days, I used a candle. I bought a heat emitting gadget with a 40% off coupon at AC Moore. Since my kids make cards etc, it's safer.

I'll bring the crackers. Can I hold the heat gun too? Can I huh, can I?!? :bounce:
