Hey folks, I've got a weird question.

I've taken a job on board a cruise line (not Disney, sadly) and will have pllllllenty of spare time on my hands (going for four months at least). I thought it might be a good opportunity to capture my memories in scrapbook form, as they happen.

Anyone else ever taken scrapbooking supplies on board? What do you think I should bring so as not to over do it packing?

I don't do "traditional" scrapping. All of my layouts are digital. I don't know if you have computer access on the ship, but that's always an option. You can purchase kits, and have them on CD's. Very, very easy, and no clean up. :)

Totally my suggestion too. I just did this last week. I simply brought my laptop, brouht my CDs and did my stuff. I use Lumapix's FotoFusion from www. lumapix.com and it creates collages or you can do traditional scrapping with digital kits. Check out www.twopeasinabucket.com and their digital site and you will get some pointers and free kits. Another good start is www.digitalscrapbookplace.com. They have wonderful tutorials and also have free stuff.

Go digital!

I have a scrap tote, about the size of a carry-on bag, that I can use to take my things anywhere I need to. It would hold all of the basics. If you're doing traditional scrapping, I would first suggest taking alot of paper. You'll also want scissors, archival glue, and maybe some stamps or stickers for embellishments. All the rest is up to you. But I can fit A TON in my bag.

I have in it right now: a 12 x 12 album, a 12 x 12 folio-file stuffed with assorted papers, two colored inkpads, two sets of alphabet stamps, a "tool kit" (eyelet setter, hole punch, etc), lots of eyelets and brads, another folio-file (8 1/2 x 11) full of word and phrase stickers, yet ANOTHER 8 1/2 x 11 file of assorted embellishments, two paper cutters (12 x 12 and 8 1/2 x 11), a setting mat, and assorted glues and shape cutters.

All of that in a bag that fits under an airplane seat. Mind you, it does weigh about 20 pounds, but it's nice and compact and I'm never left looking for something that I couldn't fit in the bag.

Have fun! :cheer2:

Does buying lots of scrapping stuff (and never doing it) count?

I admire all of you who actually do the books or pages rather than have them explode out of my "someday I'm going to do it drawer" :boat:

Just curious b/c your commend made me think- I always thought cruiseline workers were overworked and that they didn't have plenty of time on hand.

Is this a job you are looking forward to? something you just want to try?

Hi BuzzBoyMom - My understanding is that cruiseline workers are very busy people, yes. But my job on the ship is in the category of 'guest performer' and so other than doing our show one night a week and running a workshop, I'm essentially a regular passenger.
The job really came out of nowhere 72 hours ago, and everyone I love encouraged me to go for it. Including my super supportive boyfriend!

Thanks all for your suggestions, I'll have a look at the digital scrapbooking stuff. That would definately make things easier for packing!

Actually, I would love to now what the Disney ships have in terms of scrapbooking supplies. We are taking our 1st Disney cruise this Oct. and would like to get Pirate scrapbook paper, DCL paper, DCL album, etc. Anyone know what they have? I am one of those few scrapbookers who actually complete albums. I have done 5 which includes 2 Disney ones.

As far as what Disney has I just bought and album they had DCL specific paper and emelishments for DCL as well in Mickey's mates.

there was a whole corner for scrapbooking and art supplies.

Also, they usually have Disney papers at scrapbooking stores. I just got several from a tiny little local store, along with lots of embellishments. Might be cheaper to buy them that way. :confused3

Thanks. Sounds like an awesome opportunity! Wish you the best.

I did not see any DCL scrapping stuff at any of the resort or Downtown DIsney stores. I guess I just have to wait until we board the cruise. Any idea how much the album cost with teh DCL logo?
