I am a relatively new SAHM. I have got the stay at home blues. I am feeling like I really need a hobby. I thought about starting to scrapbook but I don't know where or how to start. I know it sounds silly. Can someone give me some insight? When we were in Disney I bought some plain pages and I have plenty of Disney photos. So what now?

A good start is to google some page layouts or buy a book of layout designs. Try to avoid going overboard with supplies until you know of you like it. Also, see if there are any local scrapbook places that hold "open crops" where you can go and meet other scrappers and learn from them.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

hello - if you go down the message board to creative community - there is a whole section on scrapbooking - lots of great ideas and wonderful people there.
go check it out

Our local scrapbooking shops holds classes that are very reasonable. While you're there you get to use all their punches, tools, etc., and get a discount that night on supplies. I've taken a couple of classes and have learned so much, both from the instructors and the other scrapbookers. It also makes for a nice evening out without my DH and children.

Hi there! I love scrapbooking especially Disney scrapbooking! I just don't have much time to do it.

I have helped a few friends get started in scrapbooking. I feel that the most important purchases at the beginning are: a paper cutter, good scissors, a tape runner and a variety of 12x12 plain cardstock. I stock up on supplies by watching for the sales at Michaels and AC Moore and each of these stores usually has a 40% off one regular price item coupon in the paper every week so I use those for more expensive purchases.

I find it easier to scrap if I have a plan first. For our last Disney trip, for example, I took notes each day so I decided I wanted to scrap in chronological order of our trip. I take tons of photos so I had plenty of photos to do this. Some people scrap by category so they may scrap all of their Magic Kingdom photos together, etc.

I am certainly not an expert but feel free to PM me if I can offer any other advice.

I've been scrapbooking for about 10 years. I would start with a scrapbooking 101 type class at your local scrapbook store. I know ours run about $10 and usually include the supplies you use and the tools you need. They will also be able to tell you about different styles of books, adhesives, tools etc.

The main thing I have learned over the years is to buy as you go. I have so much stuff that I'll never use, but thought was so cute when I bought it. If you have a friend that scrapbooks, I would go to a crop with her. and most of all remember, there are no rules or mistakes in scrapbooking and scrapbook however you want.

OMG, I never knew there was a creative community here on the DIS. I'll have to check it out. Thanks for the info. OP, I love the following website: www.splitcoaststampers.com they have really get ideas for getting started and it is frequented by tons of way talented people. Best of luck with getting your hobby started!

Oh, I love to scrapbook! I learned completely on my own, but did you know we have a scrapbooking community here? It is within the creative community and they are great.

Oops, I now see that someone pointed them out. They are great, and I got lots of great ideas from them.

I also love, love, love the magazine "Simple Scrapbooks." It is really great for a newbie and there is always a page where they outline what you need to start out (it's not as much stuff as you would think!).

If there's an Archivers near you (www.archiversonline.com) they have free intro classes (and other classes as well).

I got started through a friend who was a creative memories consultant, and held an intro class for us in her home. For me, it's a fun social occassion too.

But, if a class is not an option, there are a few Disney scrapbooking books, I think sold on amazon, that provide lots of sample layouts, etc. For just starting, I might start with a Disney kit that provides an album, pages and a few other things. They sell these at Target, JoAnn fabrics, Michaels, etc.
