Scrapbooking Bday party for DD6

So my daughter wants to have a "scrapbook" party for her 7th bday. The invitees would consist of all the girls in her first grade class -- a maximum of 6 girls if they all come. Party date is Feb 3.

Has anyone done a party like this? I am looking for any ideas, tips, suggestions. I am specifically stumped on adhesive. What should I use? I don't think any of the girls except for my daughter has any experience.

I have 5 8x8 albums that I got on clearance at JoAnn's a few years ago, so I think I'll give those to the girls. I guess I'll either buy a book of 8x8 paper or maybe I'll sort through my stash of 12x12 and use up the paper I've had forever and haven't yet used. I'll have to cut it to 8x8 though. I don't want the girls to be cutting anything. I'll definitely buy, or use up my own mats for 4x6 photos.

I think that embellishments will be the exciting part of this for the girls (Aren't they for everyone?) I will use my sizzix and xyron to pre-cut and sticker each of the girls names. I don't think I could afford to buy them enough stickers to keep them occupied for an hour. Any ideas?

You are off to a great start. Many young girls are asking to have this type of birthday party.

To keep the girls busy during the party, I would suggest asking the girls to bring some pictures to start the album with and/or if you have pictures of the girls with the birthday girl, print out and include with the album. The girls could crop, adhere, and do some journaling.

Or the girls could create their own embellishments. Use up some small scraps of paper making those serendipity embellishments. Though I think if the girls bring even just three of their own pictures, between cropping, adhering, and journaling that will keep the kids quite busy. I've done a little CM crop for 10 little 4-H girls and that is all I had them do. Our session went a hour and a half.

What a fun idea!

I think for adhesive, I'd just provide a bunch of glue sticks for them to use...and use your tape runner for their photos. They probably won't all be ready to stick them down at the same time.

If you need more paper, you might check JoAnns. Mine had quite a bit of their 12x12 on clearance for really cheap prices. The other suggestion would be to check out your Dollar Tree store. I got a bunch there for DD a while ago. But come to think about it, you might do better at JoAnns since those packs only have probably 6 sheets in them for your dollar.

Do you have a bunch of stamps? You might provide them with a bunch of pre-cut squares or circles that they could stamp on to use for embellishments.

Maybe have some tags precut also and have matching yarn they could use?

Probably the biggest thing would be to have sample pages out for them to look at. Newbies often have trouble imagining what to do with all that blank space!

My dd did this as part of her birthday party the summer after 2nd grade. The girls all enjoyed it. They loved using letter stickers, and I had a bunch of other stickers available. I let them use the "fancy" scissors to create borders and frames. They liked using different colored pens, too.

I had another simple craft available for any girls that finished early/didn't have a long attention span.

Avery makes small circle sticker stock- perhaps you can stamp those?

Clipart images can be run through a Xyron...

Thanks for all of your ideas. I inherited a ton of rubber stamps from my mom. I never use them for my scrapbooks -- just cards. I forgot all about them. Kids love to stamp!

My sister and I did a scrapbook party for our sister-in-law's bridal shower because she is really into scrapbooking. She had one bridal shower for her family then we had one with just our family since most of my Aunts spend the winter and wanted to attend. We had to time it to when they would be back up in MI. At the first bridal shower we game my SIL a scrapbook that we had made all about her and my brother. This was actually the first book I ever really did. Then at the bridal shower we had each member of our family make a page about them or their family, so that she could kind of get to know them. Everyone had a really great time. We included in the invitation a note to bring some pictures to use for a special project. My mom told most of them what it was when they called to RSVP though. We bought and used some of our own paper, scissors, stickers, markers, etc. For adhesive we bought scrapbooking gluesticks that worked well. Overall it turned out really cute and everyone had a lot of fun. It was a lot better than your normal bridal shower where you play those stupid games.

For my Grandma's 90th birthday this past year my mom, sister, and I created a scrapbook for her all about the family. My mom sneaked into my Grandma's apartment one day and borrowed her photo albums, which we then took the photos and scanned them. In the invitations we mailed out we asked for everyone to send some photos to be used in creating this book for my Grandma. It turned out so beautifully. My Grandma couldn't stop looking at it. She had such fun at the party telling stories, showing people the book, etc. It as a big success.

So for your party, maybe you can ask the girls' parents to provide you with some photos ahead of time to get copies of, etc. Or take a digital camera and printer and take the photos there. That could be a lot of fun. Maybe set up something where they can play with costumes, make up, dress up stuff, etc and then take pictures of their "makeovers" to use as scrapbook pictures.

This is great! I'll be keeping up on this thread. I am considering this for my DD6 birthday in March when she turns 7!

For adhesive what about mounting squares? They have some temporarily repositionable ones that are great for beginers (and they're cheap). I would avoid the tape runner because some kids use about 18" of it for one picture.

Also with the stamps I strongly recommend only one color of ink. My daughters friend ruined my yellow stamp pad by stamping in black then stamping in yellow without cleaning the stamp.

I'm doing a scrapping party for DS(7)'s Beaver colony - 24 boys aged 6-8

I'm taking loads of pre-cut strips, triangles etc and will let them punch shapes out of them to use as embellishments. (CM micro-makers, as I thought they're easier for little hands). I'm also going to download some Beaver emblems from the Internet and print them onto cardstock and cut them out - could you do something with Disney princesses or something?
I'm not taking the cutting system or 12" cutters, but I'll maybe take my personal trimmer (for my use) and corner rounders, plus a load of journalling mats and photo mats. I'm giving them 7" pages so they basically get one picture and some fancy stuff - I don't think their attention will spread longer (from my experience with DS).

fun! I wanted my DD do this many times and she always said no!
Do you have lots of punches? I would bring those out and let the girls punch away with your scraps. Stamps are another great idea to use but I would buy some cheap ink pads for them to use.
You could also do a "make and take" maybe for a page that is a picture from the party. You could design a simple tag but let them experiement with some of the fun stuff...eye lets or brad, some ribbon etc....

laura&fam is right about the tape runner! I worded that poorly. I meant that you should add the adhesive to the photos. And using something that's at least temporarily repositionable is a great idea...no tears because something got stuck in the wrong place. Girls can be a really teary lot.

And definitely stick with one color of inkpad...even if they're cheap ones you plan to toss. Otherwise the girls will get annoyed when their "red" heart turns out black.
