Here's the sketch I've selected for the next challenge:
startemplate.jpg

This looks like enough of a challenge on its own, without another guideline/rule -- altho I did like the extras that Nutz4Disney included -- they were helpful for me and probably made it easier.

(It's from Scrapbooks, Etc. mag -- hopefully not copyright infringing, since there's no selling involved here).

Per Disneydarling07: "These challenges are for both paper and digital scrappers. The winner is picked randomly from all entries and they host the next challenge.
Have fun!"

This sketch looks good for a visit my sister made to her grandson who was just finishing up MP school for the Marines, and would also work for various awards, holidays, Disney events, etc.

Here's the sample attempt I made to try this out:
JakeMPpage003.jpg

It did turn out to be more challenging than I would have liked -- it was hard to do the large star. It's too big to cricut (is that a verb?), so I made a make-shift template using the back of some extra giftwrap (for the size) and flawed math, then drew it on the back of the paper I wanted to use (flipped it first, so the star would go the right direction), then cut it with a blade. I'm sure there's an easier way (but I'd recommend leaving that element off, or replacing it with something easier than what I had to do):

(the imperfect oversized star on the back of the paper).

(And, for anyone else with USMC connections, yes I had to "fake" the eagle on the insignia -- what cricut has on the cartridge is not right for the Marine Corps emblem; the Stand and Salute cart just has the globe and the anchor, with a separate eagle in another location).

I hope some people have time to give this a try (and I'm glad the winner is done by random selection, so I don't have to pick one by "judging").

I LOvE THE EXample, but i'm not even tempted to emulate it, lol. LIFE is challenging enough right now.

I couldn't even remember how to construct it with math, so I tried to look on line, and found something really neat - impractical for the size we want, as you would have to start with a very big piece of paper, but definitely worth sharing:

It's at ushistory.org, in the Betsy Ross section, and it's called "Cut a Star in One Snip".

I love this layout and the page you made turned out really great. I'm in for giving this one a try as it'll be perfect for DS's drama photos.

Bumping this up for the weekend readers.

Again, the pic was taken with my cell phone so please excuse the quality... but here is my submission! Dessert at Mama Melrose's...YUM!

edited to say: Never mind -- I guess this title with the "layout" in the title helps differentiate.

Wow love the page you did with it! Very very classy use of the template.

Question for you...are we able to change the stars to another shape, or when a challenge is posted should you do it exactly as it appears? Just wondering.

I was new to this challenge when I "won" last time, and was not able to find much in the way of rules. I kind of thought the template should be reasonably closely followed, but others who posted pages seemed to be different. I found something that said the "winner" would be randomly selected and then she/he would post the next challenge. So, I guess it's your choice.

I had never followed a template before and that and the color guidance that was included in the last one made it much easier to produce the page. This one, with the oversized star element is unfortunately harder, so, I suggested that flexibility is indeed in order, in hopes that some folks would have time to participate. (I did a companion page for the sample I put on here that has the background star just at page size. On the sample page, I replaced a star or two with the eagle, globe and anchor for the USMC.

Have fun with it!

I really love this layout and wanted to do this challenge before we left for vacation, but it just didn't happen. I'll have to save it and do it later.

My pics from photobucket are showing up smaller than they used to. Anyone know if I might be missing a step or something?

It's interesting to do a "random drawing" with two entries, but I'm glad I didn't have to make a choice another way. The slip of paper that came out of the cup was Simba22.

Thank you both for participating -- love your work. Sorry I didn't pick a template that would appeal to more folks, but this is a busy time of year also. I was getting worried that I had killed this thread/challenge, so I really appreciate both of your entries -- you're both winners! (But I guess Simba22 gets the honor of setting the next challenge).

Thanks! and Happy Scrapping!
