Hi!
I'll be in the area for a couple of days... are there any "must visit" scrapstores?

Kat

This will probably be in no way helpful as I haven't lived there in several years, but there used to be one on St. John's Bluff Boulevard near the intersection with Beach Boulevard. I'm sorry that I can't remember the name of it. I remember it being very nice though. Hopefully they are still there. With the way LSS have been closing down lately (sigh) ya never know.

In other tips ;) go to the new fancy outdoor mall they got. Tre chic I must say. We used to never have any good shops, and then the second I move....
They also have a Cheesecake Factory resturant there (save room for dessert!) and my personal favorite at the mall is MiMi's Cafe (YUMMO) Even if you don't like pumpkin, get the pumpkin muffin. That thing is SO good, and I don't even like pumpkin. Firehouse subs has the BEST subs and the Loop has the best burgers and pizza and milkshakes and their tomatoe soup is wonderful. Another fun place to try is a place (I think) called Whitey's Fish Camp. It's something like that. It definitly has fish camp in the name. It's got crazy stuff hanging on the walls and the ceiling. The food is great, very fresh. The kids love it. My DSister (9) saw an alligator come up and eat something and you would have thought she had won the lotto she was so excited. So you may not be scrapping, but at least you'll know where to eat good!

If you wind up going down to St. Augustine, they have a little historic area/tourist trap thing that's kind of fun to poke around. And then eat at the Conch House. They have tiki huts actually built out on the water that are super fun to eat in. Don't actually go hungry though because we've always had to wait forever. I'm not sure if the food is that wonderful (I think it is) or if we were so starved by the time they fed us we would have eaten anything! LOL

Have a great trip. And remember, only three hours from WDW, which is hardly anything when you think about it. :cutie:

ohhh Lauren! Thanks for all the inside tips!

I think I ate at the conch house many years ago...
We're driving from NY. ANd doing Jacksonville to break up the driving
for the kids. We have friends to crash in on.
Are the beaches there nice?

I'm printing your email to go in the "handy dandy" notebook:love:

Thanks again, Kathy

Glad to be of help. I never thought my scores of "useless" Jacksonville info would come in handy. The beaches there are pretty decent. Nice amount of sand to set up on. Unlike Savannah where we only have a strip of sand and when the tide comes in you have to move everything up to the road. The waves aren't that great in the Jax Beaches unless a storm is coming in. There's a little boardwalk thing around where Beach Boulevard hits the ocean that used to be pretty crappy when I was there. The usual disaffected youth and yuky t-shirt stores. But I understand it's been really spruced up and it's nice now, plus there's the public restrooms down there. I used to live on N14th street and went down to the beach there and it was more quiet. There's a hotel right there. I always figured if I bought a Coke and a sandwhich at the hotel, that gave me hotel bathroom access. Of course, I never asked them their policy on that! :rotfl: The further away from the boardwalk you get, the less people traffic there is.

If you pull through Savannah, we have a nice scrapbook store. Though I'm sure the family would be very excited to stop just for that, right? LOL It's called Savannah Scrapbooking and she has a great website. You know, just in case you can't make it all the way to Jacksonville without a pit stop. There's an outlet on the way between Savannah and Jax too at Darien. Darien is about in the middle between Sav and Jax. It's bright yellow so you can't miss it. On its own it's not too exciting, but it does have very nice restrooms and the usual fast food, and a Ruby Tuesday. I know with kids it's always good to know where all the restrooms are.

I don't know which side of Jax your friends are on, and I'm sure they'll give you great directions. But I wanted to mention that they were working on the roads around Jax the last time I went through, about two months ago, and we sat f-o-r-e-v-e-r. If it's on your way take the 9A bypass (which is how we go to WDW) to pass to the east or 295 to pass around on the west if you can at all avoid going right through downtown. Plus, 9A takes you over a super cool bridge, and not incidently right past the tre chic outdoor mall Town Center. 9A will also cross you right over all the roads that dead end at the beach if you wanted to let the kids out to just run around for a while (Atlantic Blvd, Beach Blvd, and St. Johns Bluff (St. John's has the least amount of traffice lights of all three))

Way more info than you needed. Have a great trip!

I looked in my latest Creating Keepsakes magazine and found this store:

Scrapbooks
Mrs Grossman's Red Heart Store
10584-8 Old St. Augustine Road
Jacksonville, FL 32257
904-260-4330

I have been to the scrapbook store on St Aug Road and it is great. I think the owner has changed it since I have been there but very nice. Not to far off I 95. Just map quest it. Also down the highway toward St Augustine is the outlet mall. Nice Disney outlet store. About 30 mins from Jacksonville. When you come up on the outlet mall the disney store is in the enclosed mall on your left if you are going south. Happy shopping.

Hi,
We just moved from Jacksonville over a year ago I wanted to let you know the Scrapbook store that was on St. John's bluff is no longer there. My DH bought me a GC there and that was the end of the store! lol

I second Stenogoddess info on the outdoor mall. They have a super Joanns over there that is just lovely. Really miss it. We have an old yecky one here.

Scrapbooks on St. Augustine Rd is worth the trip. (or it was a year ago) Was one of the biggest stores I'd seen.

Beaches are great. Really miss them!

The scrapbook store that Mickey&JoshNut mentioned is now called the Crop Shoppe (just recently changed ownership). It is a wonderful store with a lot of the current stuff that you see in the Scrapbook magazines. Recently the owner stocked the store with every color of Bazill paper there is. The owner is really nice and everyone is very helpful. We moved to Jax last year and thankfully (or not) it is less than 5 miles from my home. I've spent quite a bit of money there....

Hope this helps!
