This is a Scouting Swap. We will have groups broken out by Girl Scout and Boy Scout age level as well as a general Girl Scout and Boy/Cub Scout group.

Sign-ups are closed and we will be using this thread for check-ins and tracking. I will PM everyone my address and email, and ask you to also PM me with your name, home address, email address and phone number.

PM me if you have problems and need to drop out or if an emergency happens (we all know things happen beyond our control sometimes), let me know so we can make arrangements for an angel or other help if needed.

The Due date for this swap is Friday, July 6th. Please mail all packages by July 1. Please remember that I am in California so Priority Mail packages from the East Coast will take anywhere from 3 days to 1 week. I will be asking everyone to check in every 2 weeks. If I have not heard from you, I will PM you. If I don’t hear from you within 2 days of the PM, I will angel your spot.

Please mail using the priority mail envelopes. For packaging, make individual packets of your swap items using Ziploc bags or plastic wrap for each person. In or on the bags, please include your name, DIS name, and group number. Place the individual baggies/plastic wrapped items inside another larger Ziploc and label this as well. Include $4.60 in cash or a $4.60 stamp for return postage. Please don’t send metered or click-it/ship-it postage – some hostesses have had issues with these.

Let me know if you have any questions. Have fun!

Element Selection:
Please, no hand lettering on any items; use computer fonts, rub-ons, stamps, etc.
Ideas for embellishing include using brads, eyelets, charms, ribbon, 3D stickers, matted stickers or clipart, and embossing or any other ideas you may have – be creative!

1 Topper – 8” wide, 2” high
2 Borders – 12” that can be cut down to 11”
2 Journal Boxes – minimum 3” x 4” area for writing
4 Embellished Squares – largest mat should be no larger than 2”
2 Photo Frames (embellished) – for a 4x6 photo & the Sizzix dies are ok (you need to crop a bit from the photo to use these) Two layers on the frame would make the photo seem double matted.
2 Photo Mats (embellished) – for a 4x6 photo without cropping; Again, two layers as the photo sits on top of these
2 Tags – no smaller than 2x3 & larger is fine; double matted plus fiber or eyelet in the hole
2 Slide Mounts – cardstock or actual slide mounts; must be embellished but not double matted & the Sizzix dies are fine
1 Box ‘n Tag – one journal box with a matching tag (see details above)
1 Mini File Folder – embellished but need not be double matted
1 Library Pocket & Tag - embellished but need not be double matted
1 Matted Poem/Lyric/Quote – text area must be no smaller than 2½ x 3½ (no handwriting)
1 Shaker Box
1 Paper Piecing

One element for each group. I didn't want to overload anyone who was interested in multiple groups.

Ok. I think I will do a Lyric/poem type thing but with the cub scout promise/oath. My DS would love to participate as well, but we need to work together to come up with something. He is starting his own cub scout scrapbook and would love to have his own stuff (since I won't share... :)) I'll post something later today once he's home from school.

I would like a spot in the Brownie Scout group - I still am deciding on my element. I will post when I decide.:goodvibes

Hi Shauna:

thanks for getting this going. I assume it would be okay if I send early?

I'm traveling 6/20-7/6, so I'd submit prior to leaving. If that's okay here is what I'd like:

General Girl Scouting
nskjerven (Nan) 1 Box ‘n Tag

Brownie Girl Scout
nskjerven (Nan) 1 Box ‘n Tag

Junior Girl Scout
nskjerven (Nan) 1 Box ‘n Tag

General Cub/Boy Scouting
nskjerven (Nan) 1 Box ‘n Tag

Cub Scouts
nskjerven (Nan) 2 Journal Boxes

that should be 5 sections @ 8 each section right?

thanks again,

Nan

Sending early is always fine. I've got you added!

Hey Shauna!

I would love to grab a spot in the Brownie Girl Scouts and I would like to do the Mini File Folder Element!

:)

I'll do 2 tags for general scouting, 4 squares for cub scouts and topper for scouts.

No ideas yet but if I had to do squares or tags for all I'd go crazy :rotfl:

Jango is sooooo excited to be joining in! I waited until after his homework to tell him about this swap and now he has a working prototype that is really cool. I love it!

He wants to make 2 journal boxes. He also wants to know if they need to be double matted. He is using the Sizzix die that is called file folder, so it is in the shape of the folder. Thanks!

That's so cool that he is excited. I can't wait to see what he does.

If he is making a file folder, then it would not need to be double matted and it would count as one element for one file folder.

This is a file folder element:
aak1.jpg
.

Journal boxes have been done two different ways. Some say the writing surface counts as one layer with a backround layer as the second mat like this:
1ak2.jpg
.

The other method is to have the writing surface mounted on top of two other pieces of paper like this:
1-8.jpg
.

Personally, I make the first version of journal mats.

I don't know if this was any help or not. Basically, if he is making a file folder, it would not need to be double matted. If it is just a box, it would be. Maybe I should have just said that at the beginning! :rotfl:

I'd like a spot in general girl scout and one in Brownies. Thanks!

Also I will at WDW June 9th thru the 18th so I will miss checking in during that time!

Updated to here.

Marlynnp - I'll consider you duly checked in since you'll be having fun in the World. Thanks for letting me know!!!

Thanks. It is a file folder shaped journal box. :) He is using the tab as part of his design. We have figured out how to make it double matted and he likes it better than his original design. I can't believe how excited he is! If I had enough sheets of the right colors, he'd be done already! Man, I wish I had that motivation! :)

That is awesome! I can't wait to get one.

OK. I think I have everyone to here. Anyone else interested?
