Hello, I am looking for some advice. This is the first time my husband will be using a scooter in the parks. We are a bit nervous due to crowds and have a lot of questions. These boards have been helpful. I have a couple of questions…. When getting on a ride or seeing a show if we choose to leave scooter outside is there special parking, Or do we just leave where the strollers are?

It was suggested to charge while eating or taking a break. Do we charge the unit inside the restaurant or is there a special place to do this?

Thx you I know these questions may seem simple but I figure this is a great place to ask!!! TIA!!

This is what we have done occasionally (especially during meals) but most lines handle scooters well so you will be able to ride it right up to the attraction. There can be a lot of time on your feet waiting in a queue.

The few attractions that do not allow scooters in line (Peter Pan is one), will have transfer wheelchairs available to use in the queue.

It depends on who you rent from but we’ve rented about 8 times (always from Buena Vista) and never needed to charge during the day. We are often park open to close people.

I’m not sure restaurants are set up with room or plugs to offer charging? Hopefully someone else can provide more info about this.

Charge inside the restaurant- probably not
On the very very rare times I have elected to charge my ECV (purely as a precaution) - I used the outlets in the Rapunzel bathroom area.

CMs will let you know about parking - often it is with the strollers but occasionally you may be directed different.

Most restaurants prefer that scooters be parked outside if not needed to get to the table. There simply isn’t space inside for all the scooters.

If you fully charge overnight at your resort and turn off the scooter when stopped, the charge should last all day. Not all outlets in the parks are appropriate for scooter charging.

To feel more comfortable using a scooter as a newbie I highly recommend practicing on store scooters available at grocery stores, Walmart, and so forth. Then, go to a local zoo for a day and use one there. One of the biggest hurdles at Disney World is there are people and kids that will dart out in front of your scooter; your reflexes need to be good to stop. Also, you need to use ramps where appropriate. You don't want to jump a curb with a scooter; the MK castle is an area of concern, here.

Scooter batteries are dependent on the weight of the passenger for how long they will last. Also, you need to shut off the scooter when viewing a show, parade, fireworks and so forth. If you are standing still there's no reason to keep the scooter on. There is a battery gauge on the scooter; so, you somewhat know how much battery power you have. Most scooters will last the day if you conserve the battery as stated. Often time we would take a mid-day break back at the resort and then we would recharge for the evening. That worked for us. If there's a need there are places to charge a scooter in the park; these areas are not obvious. You will need to probably talk with a cast member for a good location for recharging at the park. Keep in mind it takes a while to charge a scooter. Make sure you charge the scooter fully when you are sleeping for the night every day.

Keep in mind there are some tricky maneuverings with getting a scooter on and off Disney transportation. If you use your own transportation like a car then you have to deal with getting the scooter dismantled and in and out of the car.

If you rent at the parks, it's best to get there early at park opening to secure a park scooter rental. This is based on first come first serve. If there's a problem with a park scooter rental a cast member will help you get a replacement. But again, there has to be availability. Outside scooter rentals are a little tougher getting a replacement.

We have had relatively good luck with our scooter rentals. We have done park rentals and outside rentals.

We were able to enjoy Disney better by having a scooter.

We generally ask a CM where to park our scooter if we are opting to park it and walk for a bit (usually when we want to go in a shop). Often in Fantasyland, there are dedicated w/c parking places away from stroller parking. Ask a CM. Much easier to get your scooter out when it's with other mobility devices and not with some stroller that decided to block you in.

Charging in-park is a challenge. We have seen people charging in quick-serrvice places and in areas like the Land, the Seas, etc. But I can't think of anything worse than trying to charge and waiting. We tend to charge during mid-day breaks back at the room and always overnight. Never have run out of battery.

Keep your speed turned way down, pack your patience as you will have donned a cloak of invisibility and people will not see you and will walk in front of you/stop abruptly/cut you off. We try to bring something that lights up at night to wear so that we are more visible. Ask for help getting on/off disney transportation--most, if not all, CMs will help you. And ignore any rude comments.
