Hello everyone
We are looking into renting a scooter for my husband when we come down in September. I have gone on and read about the ones on the website. My question is this. All of the faq's that I read about them say then Cant get wet! ...How is this even possible in Florida , rain is a daily occasion and what happens if you are on a ride and it starts to rain your scooter is out in the rain. I read they can stop working so how is this any good to the person with the scooter and where do you go when it starts raining? Also if you need to charge one while in the park where do you do this?
Any and all help is appreciated!

Perhaps you could ask this question on the DisAbilities board. Plenty of experienced ECV users there who can help you.

Hint: a poncho and a shower cap can be your best friend.

The main concern as to getting wet is the control panel on the tiller. I just get a plastic bag from any Disney merchandise location and slide it over the controls if it looks like rain. Most indoor attractions allow you to ride the scooter to the boarding area and transfer to the ride vehicle there; you might consider doing this if the sky looks particularly bleak. Also, don't forget to fold down the seat back when you leave it outside.

You may find this thread informative.

A good battery should last you all day. If you find yours running out prematurely, ask the rental company for a replacement. If your charge is running low, enjoy a meal at a food location with indoor seating and ask them where you can plug it in while you are eating; there are usually outlets around used for running cleaning equipment at night.

With an ECV try to anticipate the rain and get under cover or get parked and covered up. Being the last one into a crowded covered area with an ECV is awkward.... and running around in the rain trying to keep covered by ponchos is dangerous - you could run over the edge of a poncho and get caught or pulled off. We usually found dry parking places when we looked. We did not have trouble with the charge for a day in MK or DHS. But a long time in EPCOT or AK typically was a problem by 3 or 4pm. It was easy to find charging spots in EPCOT, but not so easy in other parks. Go slow on the rough pavement in AK as it can jar your battery loose and set off the safety trip (ask where the reset is on your rental!)
