Scooter rental, GCH and rides

When renting a scooter from an outside company, how does it work? We will want the scooter from 7am on a Wednesday day and need it until about 11pm on a Friday. Will we have to rent it from Tuesday through Saturday?

Also when I stayed at Desert Inn & Suites in May there were several scooters in the lobby, do they rent scooters as well?

If you aren't staying at a Disney hotel you can rent from any company and they will drop it off. Most will not drop that early so you would need to have it delivered the night before if you need it at 7am. DI&S does not rent them, those are ones that have been dropped off. I always rent from Select Scooter when staying off site and the scooter is always there when requested and I have never had an issue with their scooters!

If we have it dropped of the night before and they pick up the next day, do you pay for those day? So in my case 5 days, for 3 actual use days?

I believe with Select it is a 24 hour period so possibly 4 days depending on the time. You can email them from their website and ask or do a dummy reservation with the exact times to see, but I don't think you would pay for that first day as you would have it dropped off at the latest time they have available. Any outside company you rent from is going to have to drop it the night before if you need it that early so you may have to pay a bit more, but for the convenience it is worth it.

This is what I assumed. I tried to do a dummy reservation and it is giving me "block not open" message no matter what dates I put in.

That's strange. I just booked with them on Tuesday for December dates.
I will try again later. We may or may not need it, mostly likely do. Do they have scooter available, day of? I know my mom is going to want to try it without a scooter but will likely end up needing one.

I'm not sure. I would imagine if you call and they do they could meet you at your hotel! Disney rents them too but they sometimes sell out fast and they cost more, but that would be an option if she decides she does need one after you are already in the park.

I'll give them a call later and ask that and any other questions I have.
Thank you for your help. Now I have some answers but also more questions. ;)

We rented from Scooterbug because we were staying at the DLH this past summer. Wasn't worth the convenience. I had trouble with two different scooters from them, and the drop-off/pickup times were not convenient.

First scooter was not fully charged at pickup, then it kept powering off randomly when stopped and often took a minute or two to come back on, causing a big problem when we got stuck RIGHT AT THE TURNSTILES at opening one day. They were difficult to get hold of. There was no answer when I first tried to call them, and they never replied to an email I sent them after that. Finally got in touch with them the next day, but I couldn't get a new scooter until the following day because they'd already done their drop for that day, so that was one additional day of dealing with a scooter that kept powering off for no apparent reason. They couldn't bring the new scooter until the next morning and drop-off was at a time that we had planned to already be in the park (9 AM), so that cost us park time.

The replacement scooter was SLOW, even when fully charged. Ordinarily you can go quite a bit faster on a scooter than you can walk, but we kept having to slow down for the scooter. Again, not the greatest for rope drop! Plus they're expensive.

Next time we'll rent from someplace else and pick up offsite.

Your experience was similar to a number of horror story reviews I read about Scooterbug when I was researching scooter rentals last summer. The not being able to get hold of them when their scooters failed was a consistent theme. It left me wondering whether their monopoly at the Disney hotels caused them to have diminished service. So I went with D and R Mobility.

They deliver to and pick up from Disney hotels (we were at the GCH)--the only difference is you need to be there for the delivery. No problem for me. We had an agreed time. They texted when they got there. They showed us how to operate the two scooters we ordered. The scooters worked great. For pick up they even agreed to pick up one scooter earlier than the other. And we didn't need to be there for the pick up--we just parked it and let them know where we left it. I would use them again for sure.

Was it D&H or D&R Mobility? We used D&R Mobility and they were great. No issues with the scooter at all, which was our main concern. It held a charge no issue and we were in the parks a big chunk of the day.

Yes D&R, thanks for pointing that out-I corrected my post. We had two scooters for the two grandmas and the scooters both got good workouts over 3 full days with no problems at all.
