My brother has several injuries that make walking a long time very painful. He's stubborn, but we're trying to convince him to rent a scooter so he's not miserable.

Where's the best place to rent from?

Deckerts is the medical supply company we use. I always rent a 4 wheel ECV even though I am not over weight or very tall --5'3"-- I feel that the 3 wheelers are at times tippy. They will ask weight and height when I say 140 and my height they do try to talk me into the 3 vs 4 ---just food for thought. Deckerts will have the EVC at the hotel bell service for you or at the check in desk if the motel or hotel you are staying has no bell service. They rent newer EVC that are in excellent condition. Have a fun trip.

What hotel are you staying at? One Stop Mobility has provided the best customer service! They have 2 locations and one is inside the Camelot Inn and they have special rates for ones staying at that hotel. If your not staying there they deliver before you arrive so you don't even see them and they pick it after you depart. They have brand new batteries in their fleet so you don't have to get worried about being stuck like others with older damaged looking scooters.

I don't remember hearing anything bad recently about any local scooter companies. But my mom has used Deckert's three times and they've always been stellar. Just this month Mom rented a scooter for one day--if the price she told me was correct, it was just over half the price of one from Disney, though your pricing may vary. Friday, she called them to make sure she could keep it late on Saturday (I think she'd told them they could pick it up at 9 PM Saturday, when DCA was open until 10). They called us back Friday afternoon/early evening to tell us it was already there and she could use it, and that they'd pick it up at 10 AM Sunday. (We didn't even reach the hotel until 11 PM so it's not like she could do anything with it on Friday, but it was a nice gesture.) I find the scooters to be very good-looking, and even when I run my mom ragged, the battery doesn't seem to go down at all! I believe their number is (714) 542-5607.

Whoever you choose, it's great to be able to take a scooter from the hotel to the park--much, much faster than trying to take ART, walking to the gates, and renting a scooter there. If your brother can walk some, he can take the ECV from land to land, explore the land, and then take the ECV to the next destination. It's made my mom's trips to Disneyland so much more pleasant, the parks are my favorite place to go with her, because I know she won't be struggling to keep up with me, and I can move as fast as I like and she can keep up.

Have a great trip!

We rented from one stop. They were great, the scooter went 3 full days before needed a charge. It was there when we got to the hotel, and they pickedit up, plus it was way helper then renting at Disney.

Hey, has anyone using Deckertts or One Stop Mobility ever had any issues that required a replacement scooter or battery? I ask because I had always heard good things about Deckerts but if One Stop is across harbor they may be more Timely if there is an issue needing to be addressed. Great business move setting up a branch so close to DLR, BTW.

We lost our key from Deckert's a couple years back, so this was a problem that was through no fault of the company. When Mom phoned them (during business hours granted), they gave a quick solution to get another key, at no cost to us as far as I know. This solution involved me walking to an on-site location, which would have been very difficult for my mom to do herself. I am not sure how they would have handled it if everyone in the party had been disabled, or how quick it would have been, but it doesn't sound like that will be a problem for you.

The scooters seemed to be new and I don't recall ever reading about any off-site company's scooters actually malfunctioning (I have heard of Disney's ones breaking down). But I guess technically any piece of machinery can malfunction, so that's a fair question. That said, I'd be rather surprised if a scooter from Deckert's needed a replacement battery. I believe you are supposed to charge the battery nightly (and maybe take the cord along with you just in case). But it was only after going for 2 full days without charging, that the battery gauge on my mom's scooter went down one tick (out of probably 8-10 ticks; I didn't count them). It was still completely in the green zone. So I think the batteries are new enough that IF somehow they stopped working, the problem might be mechanical, not the battery itself.

But again, I don't recall hearing of ANY off-site company having such problems.
