Scooter Rec?

Hi all - We'll be visiting WDW for an extended trip later in the summer. Usually, we rent a scooter for my mom (while she can walk shorter distances, longer days are challenging especially with the heat) but when I did the math this time around, I'm wondering if it would make sense for us to just purchase one since we travel to WDW regularly. This would mean we'd need to fly down w/ it.

I've started researching and what I'm finding is that scooters most easy to transport, don't have the best mileage range?

Would welcome any and all recs - either scooter recs or talking me out of this being the better way to go!

I’ve been using a Pride Go-Go Sport 3-wheel for years and we fly. It has paid for itself twice over. No issues with gate checking with SWA. Never had an issue with going all day at the parks but you have to remember to plug it in to charge it each evening. If you buy your own scooter as new, take time to break in the battery before your trip so it will charge properly. All that info will come with the scooter.

I’ve been looking at lithium style battery scooters now that they are more common and lighter to transport. Golden has a folding one called CarryOn GB 120 that I’m interested in. I’m renting one on my next Disney trip to decide if I can adjust to a 4-wheel. If so, I’m getting one. I think it does about 14 miles (with the TSA approved 300 watt battery) which is plenty for me. It also has the paddle style control so you can move forward or backward with one hand or both hands. Plus has the auto stopping just like the Go-Go. The only negative is the bigger turning radius.

If you need a higher weight class travel model, Golden just released a Carryon HD (GB 220) which can carry up to 400 lbs and has a more comfy seat. I have not tested that one yet.

There are many good, dependable offsite scooter locations that are way, way cheaper than daily rental at WDW itself. I recommend looking them up and do the math. If it appears that overall you can save money by purchasing your own, then by all means, but don't forget the additions cost that might exits just transporting it.

Like I said, if you do the math and it is a better deal to buy, than that is the route to take, as long as you stay away from renting one from Disney. Apart from the cost, they are set up so their speed means that you can fall of the scooter and roll to the attractions faster then riding which is frustrating to those walking along as well as the scooter user. I tried once and was frustrated to the point of anger. So, whatever you decide just continue to not put a Disney rental in the possibility list. Five years ago it was over $50 per day at the parks to rent one. It's probably more now. Half that at offsite rentals.

Understood - perhaps I should clarify my original post - we’ve never rented directly from Disney. We’ve always done offsite and even using various promo codes, it’s still pricey. So the math works in favor of buying - I was just looking for scooter recs.

I also have a Pride GoGo, but it's an Elite Traveler, but I still rent at WDW for a variety of reasons. For one, DH is not convinced it's safe to trust the airline with it. But, more important to me, I rent from Gold Mobility (whom I highly recommend) and the Pride Victory (I think that's what it's called) is very comfortable and comes with a cup holder and USB port. Whatever you use, the 3 wheel is easier to navigate and just as stable as the 4 wheel.
