scooter question.....

We are planning a trip to WDW in dec. My father in law, who is disabled, is coming with us and I really need advice about scooter/wheelchair rental. He can walk okay and doesn't usually use one... but still can not walk far and I think would have trouble even walking around the hotel.

Question- can you rent a scooter at the resort and keep it the whole time to go on/off monorail and into parks? If you can't rent at resort can you rent from somewhere in Orlando? We will have a car and could pick something up if need be. Anyone know what the costs are like for renting?

Also, which resort would be best to stay at? I was thinking maybe the Contemporary since he could "scoot" to the MK?

You are probably best off renting from one of the sources that we list; they will deliver to the Resort and pick up. All but Randy's will leave the ECV at Bell Services prior to your arrival and pick up after departure. Randy's may be good for a first-time user as they will bring it after you have arrive; this may be useful in they can show you how to disassemble or reassemble one.

Use of ECVs on the monorails is very easy. Where you stay may be determined which parks you will primarily be going to. If you are primarily going to MK and Epcot one of the monorail resorts may be best. If it will primarily be Epcot and DHS then you might consider Boardwalk or Yacht or Beach. Otherwise use of car or bus will be necessary.

This last trip we rented 2 EVCs and a wheelchair. Randy's came out and showed us how to use the EVCs. There was some practice beforehand at the grocery stores to learn how to drive the EVCs. The hardest thing was to learn how to get on and off the buses. We read the tips about EVCs and it was very helpful. And I read the the posts regarding EVCs to learn more.

We stayed at OKW and had no problems using the buses except for one trip to a park. We got on the next bus to the park. We did not want to break up the party since another ECV was on the bus already.

I do not know the answer to this question. If you drive yourself to a park with the EVC in the trunk, can EVCs access the trams? If not, is the handicapped parking close to the entrance? We only used the bus transportation.

If someone in your group dose not mind pushing a wheel chair then they are more affordable to rent. The resorts have a few ( on a first come first serve bassis), but they are not for use in the parks, you would have to rent one inside the park, but they do not cost a whole lot of money.

My cousin always rents one from Walker Mobility. They have always given us very good service. They deliver and pick it up at the hotel. It's great to have it 24/7 instead of just at the park. It is good advise to practice at a store beforehand. You can't take the ECV on the tram, but the handicapped parking is pretty close.

I answered this on your other post in the Resort threads, but will answer it again here. When my mom goes, we always rent from Walker Mobility. Love them and have never had a problem. In fact, I already have one reserved with them for our Dec 12th-20th trip.

Last time we rented a scooter from Best Priced Mobility. The scooter was in great shape and they had the best price.
