Scooter key idea

I just returned from WDW and I wanted to share the results of an idea I had.

Several on DIS had mentioned that one of the main things you need to do when you have a scooter is to take the key out when you leave it. I knew that I was going to forget to take it out, or take it out and forget where I put it. So I came up with an idea.

I went to an office supply store and bought a package of the retractable ID holders designed to stay coiled, then can unwind to swipe, and automatically rewind back. I attached the loop (designed for a card holder) to the key for the scooter. Then attached the other side to a belt pack that carried my phone.

This work wonderfully. I never misplaced the key, I never forgot to take the key with me, and I didn't need to think about it at all. The key would always be in the scooter or hanging from my belt.

Now if I can only figure out a way to go back to WDW as easily.

I use a coiled key chain - goes around the wrist while in the ride car - ready to use when you are back to the scooter again.

A lot of people use those and some of the companies even provide the keys on a coiled bracelet.

I have a key for our car on the loop (my old work ID holder) and wear it or pin it in my purse. I don't drive, but it would be really hard to get a key for our old Florida car, if my dh lost his keys. The keys are our "Florida keys" and so not what he is used to carrying. I shudder to think of being ready to drive out of MK and finding out we can't get in the car.
