Scooter Incident at Magic Kingdom Bus Stop

Some buses do not have working lifts sometimes. So the bus driver let's them on because, even though you have been waiting for 2 buses, the people with the scooter could end up waiting more.
I went with my grandfather in 2014, he has dementia and doesn't walk well so he was in a wheel chair for the trip. A bunch of times we would be waiting for up to 3 busession before one could put him on. Talk about frustrating. If he could walk we would have been on quick.

Excellent point. Priority for those who have small children? Priority for single moms? Priority for those over 65 who do not travel with a wheelchair or ECV? Priority for those who got wet in the rainstorm? Priority for those who argued with their spouse for more than 10 minutes? Priority for those who have a cold? Priority for those who waited in line for SDMT for more than 60 minutes?

I really hope you are not comparing being wet in a rainstorm or being a single mom with having to use a scooter to get around.

Sorry to inform you, but life isn't fair, it doesn't matter what any of us thinks all that matters is what Disney states the rules are. They have clearly stated it on signs so you can complain how unfair it is until the end of time, things aren't changing.
I agree, and fully support Disney's right to handle this how they see fit. But Disney does lots of things that I support, but disagree with. In this case I disagree, so I drive. I am willing to spend a little more money on each trip so I can have the freedom to move about the World at my pace without having to deal with angry people in us queues.

Honestly, some of the worst behavior I have witnessed while at Disney has been in queues, and bus queues are worse.

What I'm really getting out of this thread is what people really think about people in wheelchairs and scooters. I thought people had come along in their understanding of people who have special needs, but that staring and glaring is really how people feel. You can tell people all the time hey maybe we took up the front row these couple of times during your show but other times we were are all the way in the back and our party has to be split up I don't get to see my son's face of excitement like you do, you can tell them till your blue in the face but all they will remember is that one time someone sat in the first row and you didn't. You remember because they had a mobility or another issue.

I'm thankful for the veil of this thread where people can post freely about their opinions, it has been and enlightening "discussion".

And I think that you are reading something into posts that isn't there. The internet is a terrible place to convey this type of frustration because you can't really get your point across. People stop reading long posts when they see something that resonates with them, whether that be in a positive or negative way. In the end, we just talk past one another.

For myself - my posts were not about how I feel about people riding scooters. I give them no more or less thought than anyone else that I see in the World. My posts were only about my view of equitable treatment. I know that there are other views that are just as valid. I can have this kind of conversation without getting upset at people who disagree with me.

There is only only one bus with a lift left in the fleet. All the others have been retired from service and been replaced with buses that have ramps. All of the ramps can be manually lowered (if the driver so chooses!) And the beed arises. Rarely do the ramps malfunction.

Much of the judging happens because guests see those in ECVs getting a lot of advantages that appear unfair. It is a huge problem on the buses, and it is also a huge problem with priority seating at shows. You have to either be in a wheelchair, an ECV, or with such a group to get a first or second row seat at most of the shows. It is frustrating to arrive half an hour early for a show - to be the first in the theater- to realize that you cannot use the first 2-3 rows because those are reserved. Then, someone comes in an ECV 5 minutes before with a party of 10 who sit in front of you and block your view.

This is what I read and I think it's pretty clear how the person feels and just because you say that's not what you and others mean I think the tone and jest of this thread is pretty clear. I am not upset at all I think it is what it is, people can say what they feel here and that's good to know.

** not that I was quoting you personally but you responded to my post-Buckeyebama

I just got back from a 2 week trip, and the Scooter Situation is outta Control. Bus let them cut all the time, And monorails would pack them in 2 at a time making it super hard to get out at a stop if they where still in. I only see the problems and Delays getting worst.

I don't see what is so wrong with having to understand that life isn't fair, and sometimes things go your way, and sometimes they don't. Maybe scooters get an edge on the buses and for some shows. But I highly doubt that equals everything out--remember they are also last off of the buses, it is hard for them to even get into stores to shop, queues are a bit of a challenge, and on and on. I wonder how many people would gladly trade a day on a scooter, and all of their pulses, for a day walking in the parks with all of the advantages that brings.

Has anyone in this thread contacted Disney to let them know their feelings (whatever they are) about scooters? The only reason I ask is because there apparently seems to be a lot of people passionate about this and if they can devote enough time to participate in a multi-day long thread you would think they would be voicing their opinion to the people who can change/keep the policy that is in place.

DW and I always notice the mean looks on some of the faces when a scooter drives up. I have also read posts from the poor people in the scooters writing about the looks and comments that they hear. It is just very sad, it has become a more me, me, me world. Those are the rules and if you do not like them you can either rent a car or don't go!!

I have only read part of this thread but having been part of a "scooter party" I have to chime in. My mom is in her 70's with two torn meniscus and bad hips. She is unable to do the all day walking. The only way she can join us for special family time at WDW is if we get her a scooter. She doesn't like it because she knows she is being judged by the cruel human race. "She looks perfectly normal therefore why can't she walk like the rest of us?" Well the fact is she can't! and...family vacation time is too important to let pride get in the way. We have been that party that got to board before everyone else, but many times we have also been the party that got to the bus stop first, waited 20 minutes and a bus pulls up with lots of empty seats but already has one or two scooters on it and we have had to wait for the next one. And...our whole party of 6 or 8 or 10 waited for the next bus. So it can work both ways for scooters. It can, at times, be advantageous but can also be detrimental. It is what it is. Of course we would love and much prefer it if mom was in top physical condition and didn't need a scooter! I would gladly trade it for waiting in line for a bus...as I'm sure most people with physical ailments would. I'm thankful that we have the option of getting a scooter for my mom. My children would never have the memories of my mom on vacation with us if scooters were not available. We live in a cruel, selfish, and judgemental world.
