Scooter backpack or bag and safety

Has anyone attached a bag to their scooter? First time renter of a pride victory 10 and I’m wondering if I should bring a backpack or bag to hold some water, snacks, wipes, hand sanitizer, etc that I could leave on the scooter? Anyone used a diaper bag with handle straps, backpack or stroller bag for this purpose? Would you attach it with a lock? Tell me what I will see other people using and wish I’d thought of that and brought similar.

I'd advise not using a pack that you can't easily remove and take with you when you must park your scooter to transfer onto a ride or must leave it somewhere out of your sight as some TS restaurants require.

DH is walking disabled so stashes a "pool cue" style cane in his powerchair's seatback pouch, one of those canes with 3 segments that screw together.

CMs said they'd park his chair downstairs while we ate dinner at CRT once after he transferred to a dining chair.

Someone opened the cane storage pouch, stole the middle section that had a screw embedded in one end (to use as a weapon, we figured) and closed the pouch carefully, replacing it precisely as we'd left it.

We didn't discover that until we got back to the room. It was an expensive cane, too. Fortunately, I'd insisted he bring a regular cane just in case.

So, no, don't leave anything you care about or may need with a scooter.

We've not had issues, but I use a carabiner clip which you can get at $ store or a sports store. I figure if someone wanted to grab the bag and walk off it would give some resistance and perhaps prevent a theft. We don't keep anything valuable in our backpack anyway. It's sad you have to think about it!

I am hoping to just leave water, snacks, etc and nothing valuable. I thought maybe if the bag was attached with a lock or something similar maybe it would deter someone?

That floors me. I‘ve left stuff on the back of my chair for years and have never had any issues.

We never leave anything valuable, either, but no one has ever bothered our bag. DH will sometimes take it with him, but not always.

Or suggests you have something worth stealing. Worth the few seconds it would take to cut the bag open.

I always take souvenirs and anything with real value. If someone wants my water and fun food...I'll take my chances...maybe they need the water more then I do

We had, too, outside attractions that were a lot more public than the area outside BB Boutique where the CMs left chairs/scooters.

What floored us was someone stealing part of a cane, fer %#&@$^ sakes. Obviously, an excuse for a human who cared not a whit about making a disabled person's life more difficult.

ETA: Meant to add about a FL friend who told us she saw a guy reach into a scooter basket, take out a water bottle, drink some--and then put the bottle back!

People will apparently do all sorts of nasty things in recent years.

I’m not sure why I’m so floored. People in general will do things that are mind-boggling, so why should I expect it to be different in Disney? We’ve all seen videos of them licking ice cream cartons and putting them back in the store freezer.

I’ve moved to a wheelchair, now, so it goes through most queues and into the dining room with us, now, but when I was in a scooter, it was often parked outside, or where ever the cast member found a spot for it.

Yes, after that, DH began saying he can't transfer in places we know from experience the chair will be parked where we can't see it.

I just got this one for my chair. It’s easy to clip on and take off and has backpack straps to take with you. We’ve never had issues before, but it’s risky to leave things alone. If you have anything you’d miss at all, get a bag you can easily bring with you when you leave your scooter or chair. I’ve found having a bag invaluable. I’m trying to figure out making a link. It stumped me so I put a pic in the next post.

It’s huge. Seems well made. Has pockets for everything and 2 insulated compartments. It really feels like someone in a chair or scooter designed this. Very well thought out.

First, we secure the backpack with a lock through it's 2 zippers. To secure the backpack to the scooter we first take the backpack straps and wrap them around vertically to the seat of the scooter. Then we take a bicycle lock and vertically we secure the backpack straps by going in and out twice around the seat and then finally to the bottom of the back seat metal part which locks it on.

Just a reminder that you should probably hold off on any locking of bags until you are through security. I would take the bags off my sister's EVC and take with me through security so the only bag she carried was her O2 Concentrator. Once we were through security, I would secure her bag back to the EVC.

We've used KYSS bags for a while now. Actually learned about them years ago from this site, or maybe Cruise Critic, prior to one of our trips. They no longer make the bag we have, but the fabric is slash resistant and a heavy chain with a lock that allows us to secure the bag to where ever we're leaving it (we use it at the beach a lot). I still wouldn't leave valuables unattended.

I was just going to say I have a KYSS bag and LOVE it. Used many times for vacations in the islands etc. Very strong bag.

If you are mobile and will leave the ECV to ride things, shop, eat in restaurants, etc and come back to it I probably wouldn't use a bag or backpack to leave items inside of. I do leave things in my basket I could stand to lose like sunscreen, wipes, waters, cheap poncho, etc. I carry a light water resistant travel backpack that has stuff I want to not lose and I pick that up and carry it with me on rides. I wear a small crossbody bag with credit cards, money, meds, etc. that I don't take off. I honestly keep my basket a mess with used napkins and half eaten food on top for good measure so if someone wants to dig through that be my guest.... ;)

I think bags/backpacks are too easy to grab and go or at least look like you care about what is inside. I realize some people have to leave items with the scooter and in that case I'd go all in with suggestions people have offered for locks and locking bags. A lock makes it look more valuable I'd think...on the downside....

I have a bag that I leave on my chair when we're on rides etc. It has two elastics that loop over the arm, so it's easy for me to remove for security but not always easy for others to figure out how it comes off. I've never had any problems with it being messed-with. Granted, I don't leave it outside while going into restaurants or shops, but I do leave it where they tell me for rides (which sometimes are in areas with a LOT of people passing by and no one monitoring the chairs at all). I wouldn't suggest leaving anything you care about in plain view in a basket, but a bag of some kind that is hooked to the chair in some way to at least deter would-be snatchers should be fine.
