I heard back from Randy's that the weekly rental at $175 is the better deal than a daily. Scootarama is a little cheaper - $150 for 6 days, so I was wondering if anyone here had any experience with them. Thanks! http://www.scootarama.com/

I used scootarama on our last trip down at the beginning of Dec. we were very happy with them and the scooter.

Hey stranger, funny meeting you here! ;) Great to hear you had good results with them! I have a feeling we'll go with them. Did you get the extra insurance/damage coverage?

Yes I did we got the Canopy too but only used it on a couple of real sunny days it kinda blocked her view looking over her shoulder.

Given the fact that she's never used a scooter before, it might be a good idea to get the extra coverage for my MIL, too.

Not as many people have posted about Scootarama as the other companies listed on the disABILITIES FAQs, but enough have posted good experiences that I would not be concerned to use them.

I was trying to remember if Scooterama was one of the ones that I'd called when looking for an ECV for my hunnymoon in October. When you said about the extra insurance/damange coverage, that's what reminded me for certain.

I'd called just about all the companies in the FAQ as well as few others that I found mentioned by various sites/posts, etc. Scooterama was the only one who charged extra for some sort of damage waiver. When I, in fact, asked one of the others (I won't name it, even though I did end up using them, only because I don't want to be accused of spreading "negative publicity" from one company to another) about such "insurance", they thought I was semi-nuts. I explained about it from my contact with Scooterama and was told by the company that I went with that they don't have such "insurance", never have had... they'd figured that they're rented for use, and that they will get used. So long as you don't intentionally take a sledge hammer to it or (& this was what they said was the only time they've ever charged someone for the cost of the scooter) failed to return it, then, they realize that it will be used, and that's the way it is.

The company I went with was very patient in explaining this and other questions that I had. They did NOT in any way try to talk down to me or try to "pressure" me; they didn't even try to up-sell me into the "heavy duty" scooter (as some of the other companies did... I'm below the max weight limit for the "standard" scooter, but within 50 lbs of it, depending on the company's limits). THAT was why I chose them.

I'd recommend checking Scooterama's price with the "insurance" and comparing them to the others' "regular" price, then make your own decision.

Whatever you do, Enjoy the Magic!

Hi....I know you said you wouldn't name the company, but I'm going to ask about it anyway. I'm planning to rent a scooter for our upcoming trip, and am trying to figure out who to rent from. I just started chemo and know I wont have the energy to walk all day - but the trip is paid for, and we are going to try and make the best of it. I'm finding myself in unfamiliar teritory with the scooters. I'd love any recommendations regarding pricing, service, quality, insurance(?), etc. TIA! :goodvibes

We're recently returned from a trip where we rented from scooterama. Unlike many of the posters here, we did not have a good experience. There was some trouble with the delivery of the scooter to the Beach Club Resort. When my mom tried to pick it up, the valet's did not have the key. The scooter didn't have a name on it, so they could not be assured it was for my mother. After multiple phone calls to the company, and multiple phone calls to the valet, the key was finally found-misplaced by the valet. This was in no way scooterama's fault, and we do not blame them for that. The way scooterama's customer service handled the phone calls was the problem and that is why my mother told them to come and pick up the scooter and that she was cancelling her reservation. If you have a problem and ask them to pick it up within 12 hours of delivery, you will not be charged. They lost out on $500 worth of daily rentals from us because they were rude on the phone when my mom was trying to figure everything out. We just rented from the parks in the morning instead. It was tough, and it did put a damper on our vacation because some days the parks would be sold out of scooters, but we just learned to hit the ground running early so we could beat the crowds!

We used Walker Medical-we had a good experience with them and the scooter. I would reccommend them. I think I saw the name somewhere on the boards here and then called information for the number.
Good luck!! Enjoy your trip.

I have rented from this company twice. The first time was wonderful but the second time was a complete nightmare!

To begin with, they delivered the scooter to the wrong resort and it took us 4hours of valuable vacation time to locate and pick it up. However, once we did get it, I was very pleased that it was a brand new one and used it for 2 full weeks. The morning I was to turn it in, I wiped it down completly and returned it to the luggage area at Pop Century.

After we returned home, I began getting email from Scootarama claiming I had caused extensive damage to the scooter.... along with several pics of severe damage. Since I had wiped it down and knew there was no damage done when I turned it in, I disputed the fact that I had done anything wrong. What followed were days of horrible emails from them (I won't go into detail with that but will be glad to forward them to anyone that would like to read them).

Long story short, I was threatened with a lawsuit so decided to pay for the damages rather than having to hire a lawyer and return to Florida for a trial.

I have used Walker twice before I got my own scooter and had great experiences both times

I used Scooterama this December and I was not really happy with the scooter. It was old and shaky and the battery was not the best. It would slow down at times and then pick up so I never knew how to drive it. I used Walker last year and my parents used Buena Vista this year and I must say they are both far above Scooterama....Buena Vistas are brand new and really easy to use, so go with one of them. Believe me the few dollars I saved was not worth it.
