ScoJo's Running Down a Dream Journal (comments welcome)

:goodvibes Awesome week of training so far Scott. And way to kick that BFH's butt! You eat hills for breakfast you beast! Bring em on! :lmao:

OK...here's a quote I think you can appreciate! Enjoy:

My Therapist is the Pavement,
My Drug is Endorphins,
My Foe is the Next Hill,
I Am A RUNNER

So fitting...of the way you are? Don't ya' think? :teeth:

I think we need T-Shirts with that quote btw????? It's my favorite one yet!

I'll take one of those too, if I can have one!!! I really like that quote!

Keep up the great work, Scott!!

Hi everyone!!!

Well on the eve before my trip to WDW I figured it's time to catch up with my journal and wish everyone a happy week ahead while I go and spend time with Belle, Ariel and.....oops...I mean....Mickey and the gang ;) :stir: :confused3

Here is what has transpired since I last left off....

Thursday September 7th
40 minute 'hood run. I covered 4.1 miles in 40:18 (that's a 9:50 pace...exactly what I wanted to achieve for a 'moderate' run)

Friday September 8th
Did 30 minutes on the LifeCycle (including about 8 minutes on the highest darn hill setting lol)...and weighed in at 194.8

Saturday September 9th
Had the best long run yet!! I covered 7 miles in 62:58. Granted, I ran on the river trail that is completely flat but I'm still VERY happy with that time!! It averages out to 9:00 miles....my splits were very consistent too: 8:30/9:03/9:10/9:13/9:10/8:41/9:11. :)

Sunday September 10th
- Off - much needed break!!

Monday September 11th

45 minute 'hood run. I covered 4.65 miles (9:41 mpm) and felt great the whole time. This was the first 45 minute run of the training...up 5 minutes from last Monday's 40 minutes.

Tuesday September 12th
Did 30 minutes on the elliptical. Weighed in at 197.4 (but I had eaten 1 hour prior to working out....at least that's my excuse ;) )

Wednesday September 13th
The weekly fast run. I did my 4 mile 'hood course in 35:54 (ahem...AMY, doesn't this beat your personal best?? ;) not that I'm keeping track or anything..) which averaged out to 9:05

Thursday September 14th
Supposed to be a rest day, but I decided to run since I will not be running in WDW. I can't run there due to the fact that it's just my daughter and I....I can't leave her in the hotel room while I run - AND Pop Century doesn't have a fitness center. So I busted out a 45 minute run....I ran 5 miles in 45:47 (a 9:09 avg mile).

Friday September 15th

30 minutes on the LifeCycle again. I'm liking mixing up the cross training a little bit. I was growing tired of the elliptical all of the time. I weighed in tonight at an all time official weigh in low of 194.4 :)

Soo...I have to say that the first four weeks of marathon training have been a HUGE success!! I feel much stronger and am getting faster all of the time. 26.2 miles still seems like a near impossibility but I know that I can do it. I'm definitely enjoying the rewards of getting into better shape....losing 30 pounds and many inches has made me healthier and more confident.

And so that brings us to a goodbye. Time to drive 420 miles down to he Happiest Place on Earth. I have never seen my daughter as excited as she was tonight :) ....it's time for a much needed break from work and some good times with my daughter. I will be doing a full trip report and I'll share some pictures here in the journal for those interested. The pre-trip report will be posted shortly.

Thanks to everyone for your continued support. I hope everyone has a great week. I might just stop by mid week to see how everyone is doing :)

Bye for now :wave2:

Wow, Scott. GREAT runs this past couple of weeks!! And congrats on your all time low weigh-in!! You should be SO proud of yourself!! How about a before & now picture for us? Like maybe a pic from last year's father/daughter trip compared to this years? I'll be there will be a BIG difference!!

Have an AWESOME time at WDW. I can't wait to read the report and see the pics when you get back. Enjoy the magic, enjoy the special time with your DD, enjoy the food. You deserve it all!

(need an applause smilie :teeth: :thumbsup2 )

And, as always, thanks for the encouragement on my journal!

:sad2: Going to miss you partner! BUT....I know you will be having an awesome time in "the world" with your daughter :goodvibes . So I guess I'll let ya' off the hook for all those training runs you are going to miss. And in all honesty....you need to rest those legs.....especially if you have any hopes of beating my killer time from this week. And remember...there is nothing wrong with 2nd place! :rotfl: Oh, and congrats on the weigh-in!!! And all your XT this week...I think it's a great idea to mix up the activities to keep it interesting and work on different muscles groups. As always you are doing wonderful with your training.

I hope your legs are feeling better, I know you'll be back in machine-like form eating those hills for breakfast and destroying those long runs at a killer pace in no time. Just take it easy...remember the long term goal of getting to the starting line. Don't push yourself too hard...recovery is also part of the process.

Your 7 Mile run was incredible. What an awesome pace!!!! And your 4 mile speed run on Wednesday was supah-fly ;) :rotfl2: ! BUT...most amazing was your Thursday run....that pace over that distance and on a day that was supposed to be a rest day (and we DO have rest days for a reason ya know). I have to give it to you...incredible. BUT....go check out my journal Speedy....let's just see who is the current record holder on the 4 mile speed run. Not that this is about competition.... :teeth: ...... I'm sure you'll easily be able to shave a minute off your time ;) . And if not....a minute isn't really that long. I mean...I'll only get a couple stretches in before you show up. It's not like I'd be waiting around all that long for ya! So no worries. :rotfl:

OK....but with all the smack talk aside....I really really really hope you have an amazing time at WDW. Don't even think about the missed runs. Ice up the legs if they are bothering you and most of all...most importantly....have an incredible, fun, magical vacation. Can't wait to see the pictures. And definitely check in here while you're away....it'll help keep you apprised of my progress and give you a new goal perhaps ;).

Say "hi" to your girlfriends Belle and Ariel for me :wave2: . :lmao:

WOW, Scott!! You continue to do Awesome!!! I have been a TOTAL slacker lately, but then I have never been half as motivated as you! Keep up the Great work!! :cheer2: :cheer2:

Hope you are having a MAGICAL time at WDW!! I can't wait to read your trip report!! I can read it and pretend that I got to go again this year too! :cloud9:

Oh, Yeah! I FINALLY got DH hooked on LOST!! :woohoo: He gave me season one last year for my Bday and Season 2 this year. He finally watched season 1 with me recently (we finished last night). :goodvibes Welcome home Scott!!!

I know it's hard to be back from vacation..but we missed you around here!!!!

Thanks for posting your pics! Anymore to share? Trip reports? Detailed information? :teeth:

OK...ready to get back to the training? I missed my marathon partner!!!! We're closing in on the 3 month mark!!!! Can you believe it? In nearly 3 months we'll be running 26.2?!?!?! Are we insane???? :confused3 Ummm..probably. But look how far we've come!!!! The coming months will test us for sure....but it's nice to have you on this journey!!! Again..welcome home. Hope you had a fantastic time!!!! :)

I'm with Amy.....it's GREAT to have you back!! First, go for a run, second sit down and write up that trip report! :rotfl:

Can't wait to hear all about it!

Thanks Amy and Kim! It was a great vacation, but it's good to be back...got a marathon to run you know ;)

Amy - Yes I'm ready to get back to training and no I can't believe we're three months away from doing this crazy thing! Tomorrow is the 100 day away mark...double digits after that! It was pretty cool to be down there driving on the same roads we'll be running on in January...even though the distance from MGM to MK sure does look longer now ;)

And Kim, I went for a run within 45 minutes of pulling into the garage! And today I started the trip report....it's nice to know there are people out there actually looking forward to it (even if it does add some pressure LOL)

So needless to say, I did not get any exercise in last week. It was just impossible with having no other adults there with me in addition to not having a fitness center at the value resort. You'd think Disney could provide something...I know it's a value resort but this marathoning is getting expensive :)

The whole deal started off really bad when I got up to run last Saturday (before driving to Orlando)...I planned on running the 7 miler but I experienced some pretty sharp pain around my shins during mile 2 and had to totally quit running before completing 3 miles. I was suddenly faced with my first injury of the training, along with the prospect of not working out for a week. Thankfully my marathon buddy convinced me to ice up the legs, pop some Advil and think about getting some new shoes (man, the other ones are worn out). My legs hurt most of Saturday but the pain subsided on Sunday. They did feel a little dull ache Sunday night but that was the last time they've acted up. I did go out and get some new running shoes and I did wear them to the parks a couple days which I think really helped out.

I was able to get back out there this past Saturday upon returning home....I literally unpacked the car, changed clothes and headed out for the 8 mile trek thru the neighborhood. I felt pretty good for the first four miles, but then fatigue set in a little so I slowed down my pace. After a week of park commandoing, it figures that I'd be a little worn out so the goal became just to finish the run with a nice easy pacing. I did try Sport Beans for the first time on this run...I was worried about the consistency of them but found them to be quite tasty!! I've got a gel to try out next Saturday and will probably figure out from there what the best in race energy source will be for me.

I completed the run in 1:19 and 40 something seconds (sorry..don't have the actual number with me) which is just under a 10:00 mpm pace. I was very satisfied with pulling the run off after so much travel and park hopping.

I took Sunday off and will head back out in full swing tonight with my 45 minute run. My legs are a little sore (ok...maybe a lot sore) up in my quads but I think it's something I can run thru. It's amazing how much you lose in just 7 days of non-running.

I ate pretty poorly, or at least different than I'm used to, but fortunately I did not gain any weight. I ended up with cokes or wine with my meals and definitely did not get enough water thru the day. And the five small meal plan went out the window....replaced by a lunch and dinner with the occasional ice cream in the evening. I'll definitely get back on track with the eating...I actually missed my water and snack bars!

So that's the update from my world. I'm really looking forward to getting back into the groove of training...and with no more off time planned, I should not have to worry about missing any further training days.

WDW was great and DD and I had a great time. I'll put all of the details in the trip report and link from here (and in my signature)...but here are two more pics for y'all in the meantime...

Here is Mr. Incredible and some dude in a costume.... LOL...

And here is one from before dinner at the 50s PT Cafe....

Oh yeah...caught up on some of the reality TV shows that I missed. I've seen the first episodes of Survivor and AR (not impressed with the people in either of those shows)....but I have to say that the Office (i know..not reality) really surprised me!! What an opener! I won't spoil it for you Amy...but you have to see it!!

Anyway...enough for today....I'll hit everyones journals a little later...I hope everyone has a great week!!!

Bye for now!!

I LOVE IT!!!! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Sounds like you had a great time, and to be home and jump right into an 8 mile run...that nickname is truly perfect!

I agree about The Office. Truly the best show on television right now. And I agree about Survivor, no one really standing out to me right now. AR is good and I think got better last night.

Welcome back to reality (in more ways than one! :rolleyes1 )

Oh, and no pressure on the trip report. You have a lot going on.

Thanks for the pictures Scott!!! And I have to say...you really are incredible...driving all that way home and then heading right out for an 8 mile run!!! Good lord...are you crazy boy or just super human??? :confused3

And maybe my killer 4 mile run from a few weeks back will not stand this week...you've been rested and ready to go now for over a week. But just remember this...if you do smoke my time I'm still on the IR and will be coming back strong soon (I hope). Keep checking behind you 'cause I'm gonna' be right there on your tail. So good luck on Wednesday! I'll even spare a little pixie dust for ya'...you might need it :wizard: ;). And awesome time on that LR....our time was nearly exact....I finished in 1:19:43!!! Would seem we are matched nicely to run this marathon :teeth: .

And in all seriousness...I'm really happy that your legs are feeling good again and back to 100%! :grouphug: Injuries are not fun....and I know how they can really bring us down mentally at this stage of the game. I'm glad you took that good advice :teeth: it seems to have done the trick! Now we gotta' keep you and me healthy and strong for the next 100 days! Gotta' run this thing and see what we can do!!!! :goodvibes
