ScoJo's Running Down a Dream Journal (comments welcome)

Hey there Scott! Good to see you posting!!! I look forward to your funny posts!

As for the running....I sound like a broken record b/c I keep telling you that your speed is impressive. But it really is! So proud of you...and I know you are going to kick some butt in that 5K.

Oh and that quote rocked! I love it :). Glad that I inspire you to post quotes. LOL!

And I totally agree with Kim....dude you really have to post some race pictures :).

Have a great time this weekend! And don't wait too long to post your results. We'll all be anxiously awaiting the outcome of your race...see if you post a personal best (which I'm sure you will) and more importantly had a great time with your daughter :). She's going to be so proud of her daddy!!!

Wow...I really need to get by here more often :)

Thanks to you guys for posting, it is always cool to see the support you all offer.

Well, I ran the race last Saturday....the Etowah River Run 5k. It was billed as a fast & flat course and boy was it ever!! The cool thing is the last mile or so was run on the same trail where I do my weekly long runs! It was neat to be racing there. I wanted to push myself on this race, see how I could do on a course with no uphill parts :) I finished in an amazing 26:06!! :cool1: Although a tad disappointed that I was only 6 seconds away from the 25's, I was very very pleased with the results!!

I then took Sunday off and jumped back into the normal routine on Monday. Monday I ran 5 miles around the neighborhood in 51:12...Tuesday I did the elliptical for 45:00....Wednesday I took off due to life getting in the way :(...and Thursday I ran 4 miles in the 'hood in 40:50.

I've decided to not run the 5k/10k tomorrow. Gonna hang out with some friends tonight and enjoy the ability to slug a few back before marathon training starts in a couple weeks. I can just do a normal workout tonight and tomorrow, and then do a nice long run on Sunday morning.

Hope all is well with everyone! Have a great weekend!

Wow Scott.....I really think you need to take this running thing more seriously. You are such a slacker! ONLY a 26:06.....boy.....what are we going to do with you :confused3 :rotfl: .

REALLY....OMG.....That time is incredible!!! SO SO SO SO SO PROUD OF YOU!!!!!! :cheer2: I just can't get over your progress! And great runs this week too.....plus a killer elliptical workout!

Keep up the good work! You are totally kicking butt!!!!!!!

I couldn't agree with Amy more....you really are MR. INCREDIBLE!! I'm hoping for 30 minutes for my 5K next weekend!!!

I also agree that you should chill with some friends before your serious marathon training begins! Treat yourself!!

Have a GREAT weekend! I'm so proud of all you're accomplishing!

Hi, Scott!

You are doing Amazing!! I need just a tad bit of your motivation! Your 5k time was terrific! :cheer2:

I have been struggling with that whole life getting in the way thing. But I will try to take a page from your book and just keep pushing through.

Keep up the Great work! :cheer2: You've gotta cause you are such an amazing inspiration for me in my journey! THANKS!

Have a great weekend! :sunny:

Thanks Amy, Kim and Amber for the kind words!!

Yes I ended up drinking a beer or two on Friday night (can you play poker any other way?) but felt guilty enough on Saturday to motivate myself to the fitness center where I did 40 minutes on the elliptical. I weighed in at 196, but hadn't eaten anything all morning so I think it was a bit skewed.

Sunday I woke up eeaaarrrllyy and did a long run in my neighborhood. I'm planning on running the US 10k Classic on Labor Day which takes place on a super hilly course (nearly all uphill!)...heck this is what they post on their website (and put on their t-shirts): "Yeah, that's right. The course with the tough hills. We've got hills. Life's got hills. What are you going to do? Walk away? Or face the challenge." So I figured it's time to do some 6 milers with hills, instead of on the completely flat course that I'm used to. I did really well, finishing the 6 mile run in 61:45 (10:18 mpm). I'll be able to get three more of those runs in before the race...and that should help me out tremendously. I'm definitely NOT running for time with this race, but simply for the achievement of completing a really tough course.

I followed up Sunday's run with a 4 miler 'hood run on Monday in the sweltering heat. I finished the first 3 miles in 28:00 even, but then had to walk most of the fourth mile...it wasn't humid but was just plain toasty out there...and finished the 4 miles in 40:56.

So marathon training starts in just two short weeks, and I couldn't be more excited!! I'm going to finish out this week with the following plan:

Today (Tuesday) - 40 min elliptical
Wednesday - 4 mile 'hood run
Thursday - 40 min elliptical
Friday - off
Saturday - 4 mile run (will be out of town..can hopefully pull this off)
Sunday - 6 mile evening 'hood run

In other news....I finalized the payment for our September Disney vacation and purchased tickets to MNSSHP on Friday Sept. 22nd!! We received the tickets yesterday and now DD and I are super excited to be returning to the world in just a little over 5 weeks!! She's set on dressing up as Elizabeth Swann for the party and is insisting that I be Capt'n Jack Sparrow...anyone know where I can find a good pirate outfit (that doesn't look cheesy)?? That week we're in Disney also marks one of my favorite times of year...I mean you have the start of the fall tv season....can't wait to have Big Brother, Amazing Race, The Office and Lost all going on at the same time....the start of the baseball playoffs.....football will be in full swing.....the start of hockey season just two weeks away and this year add the excitement of being in marathon training!! Whew...better rest up while I can ;)

Hope everyone is doing well....thanks again to those who stop by!

Wow, Scott...that course sounds SCARY!!! But I'm sure it'll be nothing for you, Mr. I. :thumbsup2

I'd love to see the marathon training plan you're going to follow. I'm very curious how that all comes together.

Yes, just when I think I've weaned myself off of watching so much tv.....the fall shows begin again! I haven't seen many previews for new shows (since I Tivo most shows and fast forward through commercials) so hopefully I won't have too many new ones to add to the mix.

I can't wait to hear about your trip with your DD. You guys are gonna have a blast! (I remember reading about your last trip!)

Hey Scott-
Thought you might think this was funny:

"When a dog chases me, I usually look at him and say, 'So you like running too?'"
-Kely Braswell

With the way your workouts are going you could probably out run the dog! Man you are a machine. Impressive.

Hey, Scott! Just wanted to stop by and say how Jealous I am about that Sept. Disney trip! pirate: I so wish we were going back again this year, but there's always next year! Good luck finding a good pirate costume! DH is going to be a pirate for Dragon Con, but he already had some RenFest gear that he is using. I am sure you and your DD will have a MAGICAL time! :wizard:

Hey Scott,

You continue to do a great job with your running! Keep up the good work! :thumbsup2

We had to cancel our September trip to WDW ( ) so we'll have to live vicariously through your trip report.... There will be a trip report immediately upon your return from WDW, right? ;)

Sending lots of :wizard: to you as you begin training for the marathon. You''ll do great! :cheer2:

I'm just getting caught up with journals again & all I can say is

WOW!!

I am so impressed and in total AWE of your running. You're AMAZING!!

Glad you're doing the WDW trip - is this a Daddy DD trip?? COOL!!

Hope you're having a good week.

Hey Scott...

Hope all is going well with you. Just checking in to say HI!

Hey Scott! Just stopping in. It looks like your running is great. You will have no problem when you start your marathon training :cheer2: . Have a great time with your DD at WDW. Seems like the cover of Costume Express had pirates on it. Didn't really look at them so I don't know if they are cheesy or not, but you might give it a try. Have Fun!

Hey Scott,

Don't play hide and seek here? Where are ya? Do we need to file a missing person's report? :confused3 How did that first day of Marathon Training go?

And how's that pirate costume coming together? pirate: Don't forget the eyeliner ;) :rotfl: .

Well, as my marathon running partner I have the right to know how you are doing :). So don't be a stranger you!!!!! :rolleyes1 Just kidding...hope you are doing well. Rock on! :rockband: You're a star!!! :teeth:

Hey Scott,

Marathon?? :confused3 Oh shoot! I forgot! :rotfl: (just kidding)

Soooo yeah...yesterday was day one!!! Time to put the evil, devious training plan into place :stir: :confused3 ;) No no no...really I can't wait!! Can't wait for the marathon weekend to arrive...seems like it's been a long time since this journey started and it's nice to finally see the end in sight!

The run went awesome yesterday, I did 40 minutes and covered 4.1 miles for an average mile of 9:45. The plan calls for this for the week:

Today - 30 min XT
Wed - 40 min run
Thurs - 40 min run
Fri - 30 min XT
Sat - 5 mile run
Sun - rest

So I've been found....guess that puts an end to the hide and seek game. Now that training has started, it's time to get back in the habit of posting here more often....

thanks to everyone for stopping by and I'll get to other journals as soon as I can..

Have a great day!

Hi Scott,

The official marathon training has begun! You are doing a great job! :cheer2: keep up the good work! :cheer2: Before you know it, the marathon will be here! :goodvibes

Have a great week! :sunny:

Hello!

Two days down and a bunch more to go ;)

Yesterday life got in the way a little bit and forced me to go for a run instead of doing crosstraining. It's amazing how running has become my outlet for life's little problems. It's to the point now that if anything is bothering me....being upset, angry or just needing to clear my head...I wanna just go out and run. It clears my mind, forces me to concentrate on the here and now and I feel so much better afterwards! So I ended up running 4 miles in just over 38 minutes. I'll just switch yesterday with today and do some crosstraining tonight, probably on the elliptical again. Then resume the plan by running on Thursday, XT on Friday and doing the 5 miler on Saturday.

In other news from the world of ScoJo....the Cheetah Girls tickets go on sale this Friday and DD is really looking forward to it, especially after learning that Hannah Montana is gonna be opening up :) I can't wait to sport the Cheetahlicious Concert T-shirt on casual Fridays around the office :rotfl2: ......Chill Town is the bomb!! Have you ever seen such great manipulation and strategy as what Dr. Will is pulling off on Big Brother? :stir: He's my hero :) ..... would someone please just announce Dilana the winner of RockStar and put an end to the train wreck of a show this is becoming?? Any bets on how long that band stays together?? ...... Finally, a vacation is in the near future for me!! It's my first one in a YEAR and I just cannot wait to get back to the WORLD and immerse myself in some Disney magic :wizard: ..... and now that the Braves officially stink, would someone PLEASE get rid of Bobby Cox?? He's been the issue all along, don't get me started on citing examples of how he's cost the team so many opportunities :furious:

That's it for today...thanks to everyone for stopping by!

OH Man, Scott.....now I'm jealous!! DD would LOVE that show!

Chill Town is the bomb!! Have you ever seen such great manipulation and strategy as what Dr. Will is pulling off on Big Brother? :stir: He's my hero :)

Couldn't agree more. I just love Will & Boogie and how EVERYONE in that house listens to what they say & really trusts them!!! Even after they find out they lied...they're like...oh ok, they won't do that anymore! :rotfl:

I said the same thing to DH last night. I don't see anyone else winning it. And I give them 6 months to a year to be together.

Have a GREAT trip, Scott!! I can't wait to hear about it.
