Thanks Amy, Kim and Amber for the kind words!!
Yes I ended up drinking a beer or two on Friday night (can you play poker any other way?) but felt guilty enough on Saturday to motivate myself to the fitness center where I did 40 minutes on the elliptical. I weighed in at 196, but hadn't eaten anything all morning so I think it was a bit skewed.
Sunday I woke up eeaaarrrllyy and did a long run in my neighborhood. I'm planning on running the US 10k Classic on Labor Day which takes place on a super hilly course (nearly all uphill!)...heck this is what they post on their website (and put on their t-shirts): "Yeah, that's right. The course with the tough hills. We've got hills.
Life's got hills. What are you going to do? Walk away? Or face the challenge." So I figured it's time to do some 6 milers with hills, instead of on the completely flat course that I'm used to. I did really well, finishing the 6 mile run in 61:45 (10:18 mpm). I'll be able to get three more of those runs in before the race...and that should help me out tremendously. I'm definitely NOT running for time with this race, but simply for the achievement of completing a really tough course.
I followed up Sunday's run with a 4 miler 'hood run on Monday in the sweltering heat. I finished the first 3 miles in 28:00 even, but then had to walk most of the fourth mile...it wasn't humid but was just plain toasty out there...and finished the 4 miles in 40:56.
So marathon training starts in just two short weeks, and I couldn't be more excited!! I'm going to finish out this week with the following plan:
Today (Tuesday) - 40 min elliptical
Wednesday - 4 mile 'hood run
Thursday - 40 min elliptical
Friday - off
Saturday - 4 mile run (will be out of town..can hopefully pull this off)
Sunday - 6 mile evening 'hood run
In other news....I finalized the payment for our September Disney vacation and purchased tickets to
MNSSHP on Friday Sept. 22nd!! We received the tickets yesterday and now DD and I are super excited to be returning to the world in just a little over 5 weeks!! She's set on dressing up as Elizabeth Swann for the party and is insisting that I be Capt'n Jack Sparrow...anyone know where I can find a good pirate outfit (that doesn't look cheesy)?? That week we're in Disney also marks one of my favorite times of year...I mean you have the start of the fall tv season....can't wait to have Big Brother, Amazing Race, The Office and Lost all going on at the same time....the start of the baseball playoffs.....football will be in full swing.....the start of hockey season just two weeks away and this year add the excitement of being in marathon training!! Whew...better rest up while I can
Hope everyone is doing well....thanks again to those who stop by!
