SciFi Dine In - Is it really that bad??!!

Is the rib portion dinner a good size or really small?

I had dinner there last week. Started with a Space Monkey (chocolate shake with Malibu rum and banana liqueur), an order of onion rings for an appetizer, and a Reuben sandwich with cucumber-melon salad for my entree. The only disappointing part was the cucumber-melon salad; neither the cukes or the melon had much flavor, but that might be because I've been spoiled with the organic cukes and homegrown melons I had at home this summer. The sandwich, onion rings, and shake were all quite tasty, and the atmosphere was fun as always.

My dh thought it was a good size. He didn't particularly like the sauce, it was St. Louis style which we were told had a coca cola base, but he said they were very tender (not chewey) and not salty.

I am amazed at the number of people who seem to go to the Sci-Fi for burgers. I feel like when I'm at WDW, every other day I'm having a burger at a CS place when we're trying to have a quick lunch. I think a burger would be the last thing I'd order at a TS place and if the burger is the highlight of the menu then I'd rather eat somewhere else, or once again grab a CS burger and save some time.

I guess because I do think they have good burgers. Generally when I do TS I don't want to save time no matter what I eat. I want to sit down chat with my family and relax. I don't want to carry my own food, etc. So for me TS is about just more than what I order.

It's the wide variety of people who inhabit these boards. There are large portions of this country where you can no longer find much other than chain restaurants. For example, if the only pizza you've ever eaten is Pizza Hut or Papa John's you probably have no idea what a good pizza actually tastes like. If your reference point for a restaurant steak is Applebee's you may not be that choosy. I'm going to guess there's no pit out back of the Sci-Fi where the ribs have been smoked all day but I wonder how many of their patrons get real BBQ at home or know what it's supposed to taste like?

Not everyone is particular about 100% authentic, top of the line for every meal. We're close enough to a major metropolitan area to have a pretty good choice of restaurants when we go out, and we rarely eat at the big chains (though I do have a bit of a weakness for Ruby Tuesdays for lunches). But there are times when a "bar burger" and onion rings are just the thing, and there are times, especially with kids, when those generic American-food chains are more suitable than high-quality restaurants with better food & atmosphere.

We don't like CS and won't be eating much of it on the deluxe plan in January. Wven on the current DDP, we never got burgers for CS credits. We mostly stick to wraps and salads - Main Street Bakery, Columbia Harbour House, and Sunshine Seasons are family favorites, as far as CS goes. So we don't get burned out on burgers. Out of all the meals we have planned for our upcoming 11 night trip - 23 ADRs and tenative plans for 4-5 counter service meals - I can only see two where we are likely to choose burgers: Sci-Fi and ESPN Club.

I live in south Louisiana where a good meal is considered art. While Sci-Fi may not be up to that standard, it's really very, vey good. We've eaten here for years and have never been disappointed.
