Sci-Fi with sensitive kid

I'd like to eat lunch at the Sci-Fi Dine-In Restaurant. My concern is that my DS9 hasn't seen a whole lot of movies and doesn't like anything that's realisticly violent or scary.

For example, he didn't care for a special effects show at Universal Studios Hollywood in which they pretended to cut someone with a butcher knife and a monster "attacked" the audience (and this after a cast member told us there was nothing bloody or scary in the show -- but that's another annoying story). On the other hand, he loved Indiana Jones and the car show at Disney Studios.

So, do you think I have to worry about my son seeing the Sci-Fi film, or is it a tame, all-in-good-fun kind of thing?

Thanks!

My kids had been pretty sheltered too when they first ate at Sci-Fi. the movie clips they show are cheesy B-movies, nothing intense. Its set up like a drive in, but there is plenty of light and noise, so my kids were not at all unsettled. BEsides they were too busy eating their giant hamburgers.

Its mostly 1950s B movie clips in black and white. You know, Robby the Robot and the Attack of the 50 Ft. Woman.

My son is not overly sensitive, but sci-fi scared the heck out of him. I think it was all the screaming! He honestly did not sleep well for a month he was so terrified. If you think it may be an issue I would skip it!

How old was he at the time, can'twaittogo? I'm surprised he was so upset. The kids I have seen it with thought it was dumb and cheesy.

My boys are very sheltered. We don't watch violent movies, we don't watch the news, in fact, before our trip to disney we didn't even watch Disney movies (we started watching when we planned this trip)..

We felt Disney movies were too violent, killing parents ect (another topic). They are now old enough, that Disney movies are now allowed, and encouraged.

Anyway, I don't remember anything bad or questionable at the sci-fi dine-in. They laughed at the cheesy cartoons.

I have to ask, which Disney movie involved killing parents? :confused3

Tarzan, Bambi, Snow White (ooh, she was almost murdered), Pollyanna (her parents died at the very beginning and she was orphaned - lots of Disney characters are orphaned).

We love the Sci-Fi and go there for lunch every trip. That said, during our last trip, dd7, who had been there many times, suddenly developed a fear of one of the movie scenes - the one where they jab the Collosal (sp?) man with the big syringe. Dd devised a plan that her and I would leave and go to the bathroom when that scene was coming on - she wanted to be far enough away where she wouldn't even hear anything. We did that and got to eat and watch the rest of the show without any problem.

I really love the restaurant and all the corny movies! :) The kids love the glow-in-the-dark ice cubes.

You just NEVER know what will bother the kids! She is my tough one and doesn't scare easily. After not doing Tough to be a Bug for a couple of trips she decided to do it last trip (august) and she still didn't like it!

I would try it, but have a plan to leave if something bothers him. There are enough funny things to watch, and if you make light of the "scarey" scenes then maybe he will be ok. Good luck!

sorry, just don't focus on that part. Of course my kids are older and realize that it's make believe, I can, however see where it might cause a problem for younger ones. That said, we love the Sci Fi, but we didn't eat there till they were like 7 & 9. The Tom & Jerry cartoon is hilarious, and the other films are so corny that we can't help but laugh. I agree with above posters, just have an escape plan if necessary.
