Sci-fi Theater: good, or bad?

I've read really mixed reviews about the Sci-fi Theater at DS. I'd love some input from people that have been recently. We have an 11 year old who, having read one of the myriad of Disney travel books, wants to go. Is the food really that bad and over-priced? Is the entertainment/decor enough to make it worthwhile?

59 days and counting,

Chris

I think that Sci-fi is definitely worth the visit. The burgers/fries/shakes are pretty good, and the restaurant itself is awesome! They also have pretty decent ribs on their dinner menu, but I would recommend a lunch time ADR...although people have reported being able to order the burgers at dinner, they are not listed on the dinner menu's.....You should give it a try at least once! Enjoy!

I agree that it's worth it. We had a lunch ADR during Thanksgiving week. I had a pasta dish that was O.K. but the burgers were great and the place is really cute. I would definitley go again.I think if you go to experience the atmosphere first, food second you won't be disappointed. Enjoy.:thumbsup2

We had our worse meal here. My DH, who never complains, had to send his plate back and order something else. It truly was not edible. The theming is cute, but I don't think overalll it is worth it.

We've always enjoyed the Sci-Fi. The food is certainly better than any counter service. And the atmosphere is a blast.

But if you're really worried about the food, go in the afternoon for a mid-day snack of milkshakes and onion rings.

Great theming, God awful food. But, as others have posted, the burgers are pretty decent.

I complain, but I eat there every time I go to Disney Studios. (Almost said MGM!!)

I had the burger, onion rings and a shake and that was good. Plus, they had Fosters on tap, which was nice.
The place was really neat and it is the one restaurant we went to on our last trip that DH wanted me to book again.

Food pretty forgettable and overpriced even by disney standards, but the ambiance is awesome

We usually always go for lunch during a trip and this Dec. it was one of our better meals. The atmostphere is great, our server was wonderful and the food was really good (much better than our 50's PTC or WCC meals). My DH usually gets the burger and a bowl of chili and enjoys both. I have gotten the Italien Grilled Sandwich and the Smoked Turkey Sandwich and really like either of them. I do usually ask to change out the cucumber-melon salad for fries and will gladly pay extra to do so. Their onion rings, in my opinion, are some of the best around.

We have friends that have gone for dinner and they were less than thrilled so I'd say keep this a lunch time meal and enjoy. :)

Cute atmosphere not overly "you can miss it!"-but cute. As for the food-it is what it is-decent burgers, shakes,etc-nothing spectacular-your basic burger joint food. If you go make it a lunch.:)

It has gotten mixed reviews since I started on here 8 years ago! We love it, the atmosphere is unique - nothing else like it on property. We like the food & think the prices are reasonable compared to other restaraunts onsite. I think some of people that complain about the food go in there expecting something better than a burger/sandwich joint, and to us that's what it is. We've never had a bad burger there in our opinion!

Sci-Fi is a great experience for our kids -- boy do they love this place! I like the coziness of sitting in the cars and the general atmosphere is pretty cool. However, I have not liked my meals any time we have eaten there. I have given the burger 2 tries and didn't like either time. Gave the wedge salad a try the next time and the lettuce was super quality but the dressings were not very good. We will keep going back because of the theming and our kids wouldn't let us skip it! I will just continue to try a different meal each time, no biggie.....

I went with DS and DD for lunch. They loved it. Food was ok. They enjoyed eating in the car and checking out the movies.

I think the food is fine and we liked their shakes. the only problem I have is the size of their booths/cars. For starters, there isn't nearly enough room for your food, especially if you order an appitizer too. Second, if you are a larger person, like me, the seats are very cramped and uncomfortable. DW and I were in the back seat of one of the cars and I had to suck in my gut the whole meal. Try to get a table if you can.

I ate there two years ago and loved the atmosphere. The hamburger was like eating an overdone hockey puck. Add my vote to enjoy-the-ambiance-but-order-a-light-lunch crowd.

I feel about Sci-Fi the same way I feel about 50's PTC. Worth it just for the atmosphere.

Sandwiches and appetizers are usually pretty safe bets, and as a bonus they aren't as expensive.

I thought the food was just ok. My kids love this place. I think Sci Fi is worth trying atleast once for the atmosphere.

We definitely think it's worth going back to. Food was so-so (but I've had much worse even at Denny's lol) and the shakes were great. :thumbsup2
