We have never eaten in either. How do they match up? I am not sure if we are doing the Fantasmic package or not. We are on the MTW Dining & I hear some people get to use their credits & some do not. Anyway, which restaurant would you choose for a family of 5? Thanks!

I moved you question to Restaurants Board these dining experts here will give you sime great feed back. :goodvibes :earsboy:

I think it depends on what you want to eat.
I think Sci-Fi is much better for lunch than dinner. But that's just my opinion. But I think kids would like it much better than MM.
We only ate at MM once (our first real WDW meal) five years ago. We never have returned. Now what does that say? ;) Eventually we will give it another try. It seems to be a place with mixed reviews.

I would do Sci-Fi if you have children under 15...it's just soo cool and you'll never find a restaurant like it anywhere...Mama Melrose's is Italian...sure, you can find a Maggiano's, Olive Garden, you name it in most towns...so just for ambience I'd go Sci-Fi...We have five kids and we liked sitting in the cars...Dh and I got to sit in one seat, our two girls in another and my son in the front seat...it was soo cool! :)

I love the Sci-fi. The atmosphere is great and I love the Burgers for lunch. I never and had a terrible meal here. Just one that the service could of been a little better.

We've eaten at both, and my 3 kids (13, 10 and 5) *loved* Sci Fi, and begged to eat there again in the same trip!

You can order burgers for dinner, even if they aren't on the menu. They're awesome, BTW!

Last year I went there for dinner and it was HORRIBLE. Several years ago I went for lunch and it was good. If you are going to go to the Sci-Fi I wound not do dinner there. For burgers and stuff they are good, but the dinner was really bad. I have never been to Moma Melrose so I can't tell you about that.

However, I did go to the Brown Derby for dinner and loved it.

The Sci-Fi atmosphere is relly cool, but my dinner was so bad - that I just waanted to get out of there. My wife and I both go sick from the little bit we did eat.

Agree that the food at SF is horrible. But you must experience it once.

Go for lunch, don't expect much and make sure you get the thick shakes

Mama Melrose gets our vote! :cool1: It is far better than an Olive Garden IMHO.

I've never been to Mama Melrose so I can't comment on it, but I've read many good reviews here on the boards.

We love Sci Fi and go there every trip. We've never had bad service. However, I do recommend sticking to burgers and shakes at lunch. Their burgers (including the veggie burgers) are very good, and the shakes are delicious. It seems that all the bad reviews you read are from people who went for dinner and ordered something other than burgers.

I'd vote for Mama Melrose's!! :) We ate there in Sept 2004 & Jan 2005 & the food was delicious - great Chicken Parmesan. We will be returning here again in May. We're not fans of Olive Garden - I think MM is much better than that.

We, however, won't ever be returning to Sci-Fi. The reason we've never had more than 1 horrible meal there is because 1 horrible meal is enough - we won't return! There are just too many great restaurants at WDW to waste our time & money on a poor restaurant. I agree that the atmosphere is cool, but our food was just blah.

I think it also depends on what type of food your family is looking for - HTH! :)

I've eaten at both. While the food at Sci-Fi wasn't "horrible", it wasn't anything to write home about, and I'm not that thrilled with the atmosphere.

Mama Melroses is a place we've eaten at a couple dozen times over teh years, and we've never had a bad experience. Some have been excellent, others jsut good, but never bad, and the food is a LOT better than Sci-Fi.

We love Mama Melrose. Just made my Fantasmic PS, for next month, and am drooling already.

We ate at Sci-Fi last trip, and enjoyed the burgers, fries, and shakes, but none of our family thought it was a must do this time.

Try the Rueben at Sci-Fi. It is FANTASTIC! We love the atmosphere at Sci-Fi. It keeps my 11y/o son totally interested during the entire meal. We have not tried Mama but would like to...maybe we will try it when we go in June.
