Sci-Fi...opinions please?

Don't flame me, but once was enough. The atmosphere IS very cool, but the service and food kinda left something to be desired. Have your meal at 50's Prime Time and head over to Sci Fi for dessert for the atmosphere.

See, I'd never eat the food at 50's - most of the stuff they serve is too heavy and reminds me of a high school cafeteria. :rotfl:

I had good service at Sci-Fi, and the burgers, shakes and onion rings were very good. It really was a wonderful break from the FL sun - I could have spent 2 hours in there just watching the silly trailers.
We had a party of 2 and we were in the back seat of a car and it was fine. I kind of thought it was better than a regular restaurant table b/c we could cuddle.

Two adults in our party. For us in a nutshell:

Service: Our server was very nice & accomodating, but the kitchen was VERY slow in bringing out our food. It was only mildly busy for lunch, certainly not jam packed. Again, the server was very good. Attentive & polite, accomodating to alterations I requested to my entree, quick with soda refills, even gave me a free strawberry milkshake!

Food: Shakes & burgers were delicious. Sandwiches and salads not so much

Atmosphere: Very cool! The cars were fun to sit in, the decor was great, the movie clips were very entertaining & helped us pass the time.

Not sure if we would go again, but it was definately fun to try once.

We just eat at the Sci-Fi last weekend. Had never tried it before and maybe my expectations where too high. Great atmosphere, OK food.
I enjoyed sharing the movies with the kids, but was very disappointed with the food. Not sorry we tried it, but probably won't go back.

My family and I found the atmosphere cool at first, and the stuff they show on the screen was interesting, but after awhile eating in semi-darkness just wasn't that much fun for us. The food was okay, not horrible, but I don't think we're going back.

I've never tried 50'seither , the menu is not that appealing to me. I did not really like what I had at Sci Fi, the shrimp and pasta or the apple dessert , but the others had steak and loved it they all had sundaes too! So next time if I go for supper its staeak and cheesecake and definately an oreocookie milkshake !!We had the onion rings and advocado dip and they were delish!!For lunch I would prob pay oop and get the Reuben or the burgar AND a n oreocookie milkshake !! Did mention how good those shakes were!!:rotfl2:

Another group that prefers scifi to 50's. We go nearly every trip. Always have had good food, good service and LOVE the atmosphere. Have surely been more than 20 X now!

We love Sci Fi! I just went this past weekend with DH, and we got a backseat! Loved it. I really like the BLT tomato soup - same soup as the Plaza restaurant at MK, with bacon added. I also like the burgers - didn't like the looks of the salad the car next to us ordered, fwiw.

I am with you - 50s doesn't sound appealing at all. When one goes to Sci Fi, one has to stick to burgers and milkshakes. Save the shrimp and pasta dishes for an Italian restaurant or somewhere than can handle such a thing.

RULES FOR SCI-FI

1) Order a milkshake or adult beverage
2) Order a burger or maybe a steak or other sanwich
3) Never order a pasta, and don't expect the freshest of salads
4) The movies will be horrible in a Mystery Science Theater 3000 sort of way- enjoy laughing at them and make up your own commentary
5) It will be too dark to read anything, but cozy in that you sit together in a car
6) Order of priority - atmosphere, milkshakes, food
7) Wear your sunglasses as you are leaving - your eyes will take a while to adjust

7 Simple Steps to Enjoy Sci-Fi!!! Follow this and you will have a great time, everytime!

We always have a good exp - we even loved the shrimp pasta that was on the dinner menu last time we went.

Just the two of us and it's not odd being seated in a car with others - there is a lot of space between the seats, you can't see the people, and the place is dimly lit and focused on the screen so you don't even have to say hi when you're seated. =)

I've always wanted to eat there but I look at the menu and know my bf and I will only order the $12 hamburger. If I'm gonna spend $12 I'd rather eat at 50's Prime Time and have something besides a burger so we always end up there.

I think if we went with a larger group/family instead of just the two of us we would probably eat there.

I have to agree this is a great mid-day break to get out of the sun, have a cold drink and a small bite to eat. I have never gone to sci-fi for dinner as I don't view it as a dinner place. The burgers are tasty, the onion rings are good. Your at the "drive in" :)

Having dined here at least 10 times now I'd love if they UPDATED the darn movie reel!!! I think it lasts about an hour before it loops and is it that hard to switch them up and make a new version of it? I mean there were hundreds of old 50's sci-fi movies and I'm sure plenty of sci-fi related disney stuff they could show.

That's my only rant, I can see this being a hard place for large familys or groups but I always see the kids get their own "car" and have a blast while the parents get to unwind. It's sad that many kids don't even know what a drive in is. I think this year at the cape we'll take our girls to the drive in at Wellfleet so they can see the real thing.

I actually do not think there is any advantage to eating there with a lot of people...The tables are set-up like cars...Two people sit next to each other, then two people sit behind you, and then another two people...People sit straight ahead watching the movie clips...In other words, you are not facing each other while you eat and conversation and communication is at a minimum...It is kind of strange the first time you are there to look around and see that no one is really having "meal conversation"....Also large parties will be split up because the largest car only hold 6....

IMO 50s Prime Time is better for large groups because you can sit across from each other and enjoy the fun and food together.

We have been each time we go to Disney. The food is good and our kids 15 & 14 think the movies are cool (Old School). The best thing we ever do is to make reservations. The lines to get in can be long but we have never waited more than 15 minutes. It is a great place to get out of the heat and the low lighting is very relaxing. Hope you enjoy.:woohoo:

Sci-fi was our first ever WDW Table Service meal so we have made it our tradition. I love the burgers and the atmosphere, the food isn't wow but it's always fine with us. Don't go expecting great food because it's not but it's always hot, plentiful and good.

Take a jumper though *** every time we have been the A/C is set to Arctic!

We LOVE Sci-Fi!!! The atmosphere is so fun! We only get the burgers there & they are really good! Going again next month

We love the Sci-Fi too. The atmosphere is fantastic and the food great - we tend to stick to the burgers/ sandwiches as it kind of adds to the drive-in movie feel. :)

We LOVE sci-fi. we ate on the dinning plan, so we had a little of everything. It was all very good. DH can be picky, but no complaints. Our service was great, but they were not that busy at 4:30.

We always enjoy Sci-Fi. Good food, and the atmosphere is great. We love sitting in the cars watching the movies on the screen.
