I keep hearing bad reviews on the food at Sci Fi. We are looking for some fun places to eat for our upcoming vacations. I have three dd's 13 and 10 twins. I think they would think it was neat to sit in cars to eat (I don't know how much they'd like the sci-fi movies). Everyone says that they eat hamburgers here, but I only see hamburgers listed on the lunch menu. Is the food really that bad here? We like bbq ribs alot, are they any good here? Help me try to decide.

the atmosphere is the same and burgers are available. I try to stick to the basics at Sci-Fi.

Please please stick to the burgers and shakes. Everything else is just awful. We love going here as the environment is so fun but the food is that bad. Burgers are okay, shakes are very good. Everything else is definitely not anything you want to try.

Lunch ~ IMO this place is really for the fun surroundings.
Burgers are the best way to go.......

I've heard that you can order burgers at dinner even though they are not on the menu. Is that true?

DH & I had lunch at Sci-Fi in December and it was fantastic. He got the rueben & I got a chicken sandwich. The onion rings were out of this world!! Had really nice folks sharing the car with us, so it was alot of fun!

We have tried both lunch and dinner, and I highly recommend LUNCH.

For a couple of reasons...
1) You get the same atmosphere at both meals, but it is dark outside at dinner time. It was so much more dramatic to walk in out of the hot midday sun into a dark cool night at the movies.
2) The lunch food really is better.

But, either way it is a great place! Something you can only find at Disney. :goodvibes

Another vote for lunch -- and the "movies" are short and really old, so the kids might get a laugh out of them. I know I do. LOL! My DH loves them, though. They also show some old stuff like "what life will be like in the year 2000" with how ovens or vacuum cleaners or whatever would work. I'd say Sci-Fi is worth doing once to see if you like it. I can take it or leave it, but my DH just has to go there, so we do lunch because the food choices are more to my liking than the dinner ones. Have fun!

This is one of my favorite places to eat at WDW, but like others have said, it's due to the atmosphere. I've never had bad food, but it is just ok. I would probably stick with the burgers as well.

Sci-Fi was my husband's favorite place, so much so that we ate there twice for dinner. Yes, even though hamburgers are not on the dinner menu, we had no problem ordering them for dinner. I couldn't imagine eating in that atmosphere and not having a burger. The onion rings were pretty good too. I found the food to be so much better than anything I would usually get at Disneyland in CA, so to me the food was great at Sci-Fi. There is no such thing as a good burger in Disneyland IMO.

We just ate at Sci-Fi last week and I have to say that my family loved it! There were 6 of us, 4 adults [because my 11 year old is considered an adult on the DDP] and 2 kids. 3 of us had reubens and they were really good! My 11 year old had the ribs and they were his favorite meal of the trip! Frankly, I don't get why this place gets such a bad rap -the atmosphere is super cool and everything we ate was really good!

We plan on eating there in December for our first time. For some reason the food gets horrible reviews here on the DisBoards, but over on allearsnet the food reviews for Sci-Fi are pretty good. Not sure why this is.:confused3

In any event, we're going to risk it and give Sci-Fi a try. I think my kids will love eating in the cars.:thumbsup2

I agree it is only ok food. If we had not been on the dining plan we probably would not have eaten there. We did enjoy the old film clips that we remember when we were kids we are ages 50 and 52. Our ticket was $72 that is little expensive for sandwiches and a dessert.

We go every trip - DS request. DD & I like the atichoke dip and the tomato/mozzerella (sp?) stack. Onion rings are good. Burgers are okay, too.

As others have said, the atmosphere is why we go, but the food is fine (not a WOW, but perfectly fine).

I would really recommend skipping Sci-Fi and giong to 50s Prime Time Cafe instead. It is really a fun place for kids and adults alike, and the food won't want to escape your system too early like the previous.

:goodvibes

We love Sci-fi and we make it a annual everytime we go. Had to miss last year due to being sick:sick: . We have only done dinner there and love it. The atmosphere is cool and eating in a car is so much fun. We have only had the burgers and shakes but this year I plan on trying the ribs. People have been commenting on them being so good, and it is a different change from hamburgers. Don't skip it because there is bad reviews, try it yourself and base it on your experience. Have fun on your trip.

We like Sci Fi. Went last year for dinner even though it got lots of bad reviews here in the Dis. DH had the pasta I had the ribs. The ribs were good and the pasta was great. The BLT soup was deleicious as were the onion rings.

I don't get why it gets a bad food wrap? To each his own, the food was good, atmosphere was great. I made our ADR for SCI Fi this morning for our August trip.

We're trying some new places like Boma and Kona and Chefs De France, Le Cellier, but sticking with places like Sci Fi and Chef Mickey's (breakfast) because they are oour favorites no matter what.

Go have fun. Your DDs will have a great time. Don't be afraid of the food, order what you want...

THanks everyone, we will definitely put this on our maybe list. We've eaten at Primetime and we liked it, but we found the food there to be average. We wanted to try some different places this year and some fun ones at that.

Sci-Fi:
Cool atmosphere

Only good food: burgers (we made the mistake of ordering ribs and real food!)

They have good service like all of Disney restaurants, but i would stick to a lunch NOT DINNER(another one of our mistakes)!!!!!!!!! i think many of you DISers agree!
