Sci-fi Drive-in???

We have a lunch ADR for Sci-Fi in June and I have a couple questions.

How's the Reuben?

Can you request to sit in the front seat of the car? After reading reports of people's long hair getting way too close to the food of people sitting behind them, I'm thinking that a front seat might be safer! ;)

Thanks!

We ate there last Jan and we were VERY dissappointed. Had been there before. Some of the movies are scary for little one and they are VERY OLD...mostly black and white and the service is slow so you will see them over and over. Also looking at the back of yopur fasmily heads is not too appealling....I would never recommend it to a friend. And I love WDW and I love the studios.

We went there last year and loved it. I can't wait to go back this year, we already have our ADR's set for our trip in April for lunch. We are not doing the DDP so my DS10 will be able to order off of the kids menu. He is a very picky eater and always gets the Pizza (Sci-Fi is where I discovered the wonder that is Brown Sugar Apples). Last year they had this delicious chicken sandwhich which they no longer have so I may just order off they kids menu also :) . That's the beauty of not being on the DDP. The best 2 things at Sci-Fri are the Oreo Milkshake and the Chocolate Tart. The atmosphere is the best. I hope that my DBIL loves it as much as we do.

The food is all right, nothing spectacular, but not horrible either. Everyone has differing opinions on how much food is actually worth, but accepting the fact that you're at WDW and will overpay for everything anyway will eliminate most of the "it's not worth the money" complaints.

The SCI-FI isn't particularly fancy eatin' so keep that in mind as well when determining your culinary requirements. I think it's worth a look-see if you haven't been there before though. It's not a "must-do" for us on every trip, but we do manage to squeeze it in every couple of years.

Good luck!

I don't know if this is the right place to ask this or not, but are all the cars two seats wide? We are a family of three and I wouldn't want anyone to feel left out.

TIA!

We are headed to the World in March with reservations at the Sci-Fi Drive-In while in the Hollywood Studios. I read in an unofficail guide the other day that the food there was not all that great.

Can anybody that has been give an honest review? My wife's co-worker, who goes 2x a year, said the kids would love it. Any thoughts?

I have eaten here a number of times . This was always a must due #1 for us. But they have changed and not for the better. So we don't go anymore. :(. We miss it but it's not worth it walikng out of there hungry. Not with five grown boys.
But please keep in mind that's my opinion. You might like it.

A previous poster said that they had very slow service, this was NOT our experience! We were there the Monday before Thanksgiving on an EMH night (which was very crowded), reservations for 6:00, prime dinner time, and had no problems. Service was fast and wonderful. My husband had the steak and LOVED it. I also had the steak without the sauce. Desserts were OK.

As with any TS, you are going to have those that have good experiences and those that have bad ones. I say, try it at least once! You will probably see some reruns........the loop of clips is not that long, but that is all oart of the fun in it............they don't advertixe for you to watch an entire movie, the just show short snippets of the old movies...........and that cute dancing hot dog intermission clip that used to run at all the drive ins in the past!

We love it here and do it on each trip!

We are also a family of 3. You could sit three across in the back seat, but for us it is too crowded, so my daughter and I are in one row with my husband behind us. It works out fine. He doesn't feel left out because he is right there with us, we turned around to talk to him with no problems.!

We eat at the Sci-Fi everytime we go and have a ressie for our trip in December too! Our DD loves this place and I have to keep reminding her to eat while she watches the movies!!!! :happytv: It cracks me up to listen to her say the lines of some of the movies word for word!!!!

I get the ruben every time we go...but when I was there in April I could have sworn the server told us that they were about to have a menu change -- we'll see.

We are a party of 3 and we take up 2 rows for comfort. The only complaint I have is that the seats are tight up against the table portion you eat off of...so...if you are the least bit chubby to large then your stay in the car will be uncomfortable -- which I endure because DD & DH love it there!

We find the service to be delightful -- always friendly no matter the number of people in the place, service/food is quick to you and your server always asks to take a family picture in the car!!!

We were down in Disney in June and went back to the Sci-Fi for dinner and the food is not so good, but the atmosphere is fun. There were six of us and everyone loved the atmosphere, but nobody enjoyed their dinner.

We had gone once for lunch about two years ago, and I remember the food being better, but the dinner was really, really bad.

The first time I ate there, I went for lunch and it was great. I had a cheeseburger and the onion rings. The service was good and the food was fine.

The next year I went, we went for dinner and I truly forgot what I had. It was not edible. I know I started with soup, that had pop corn on top of it. I believe it was a chowder. It had no flavor at all and the pop corn they put on top of it was steal.

My wife had ribs cooked with coke. In a word. Horrible. She didn't make it past the second bite.

Also, I'm not sure if the waiter noticed we weren't eating anything. He was kind of rude and very unpleasant for someone working in Disney. He was catering to this young couple behind us and treating us like we were the redheaded step children.

He never once asked if everything was o.k. In retrospect I should have complained to the manager about him, but I was so disgusted with the meal, I just wanted to get out of there. An hour later, I did get sick. Good think I left most of it on the plate.

The atmosphere here is awesome, and maybe we had a bad night. I would go back, but only for lunch. This place doesen't seem to be able to pull off the menu they serve for dinner. I guess it's hard to screw up burgers and cheesesteaks. So go for lunch. The kids would love the atmosphere. It is cool eye candy and a very fun place.

Next time, I have an experience like this I will definitely complain to the manager. I'm not one to send food back and I never want something for nothing, but this meal was really bad and the waiter seemed like we were a burden.

P.S. Me and my family are extremely easy going and we are extra friendly to waiters and always give a very good tip. We have worked in industries where we rely on tips so we are always good to them. I'm not sure why this guy was such an ******.

Thanks for your replies. I really appreciate it!

Now...if we can just fit our large fannies into the car...

For a generation of children who very likely have never gone to a drive in movie, this is definitely a "must do". It's very novel and my kids loved hearing the stories from Mom and Dad about how we'd go to the drive in movies in our PJs, watch the first movie and fall asleep in the back-back of the station wagon (another novelty, lol) while Mom and Dad watched the second movie. And the cartoons showing were some that played before the movies we used to watch.

The food was good.....the Angus burger was juicy and tasty, unlike some of the CS burgers available which tend to be dry and tasteless. THe milkshakes were the good thick full of real ice cream type that require a spoon to eat, not like the watery sugary artificial taste of shakes at fast food joints at home. My husband had the Rueben and he enjoyed it, thought it didn't come on dark rye which he felt was an abomination, lol.

Put the kids in the front seats and let them watch the movies while Mom and Dad neck in the backseat, :rotfl2:

The movie reel is almost exactly an hour long, so if you finish eating before you see a repeat just sit tight and enjoy it to the end.

Burgers, fries and shakes. Loved them :). Also had a really interactive waitress, which made it lots of fun.

Ask for a 'limo'. They have chairs that pull out IIRC, but you be 90 degrees to the screen.. so you have to turn your head to watch the movies..

I assume we can request a burger even if they are not on the dinner menu?

I had the Reuben in April and wasn't impressed. It wasn't horrible but it wasn't good either. I make a better Reuben at home in my own kitchen.

I can't remember what DH had other than I know he had the cucumber melon salad which I had a few bites of and thought it was very good - actually really refreshing.

The ambiance is awesome and that's what most people go there for. Made me feel like I was back in the 50's (and I wasn't even alive then). Our server was pretty decent. We'll make a return trip there in the future but we've got a lot of other restaurants we want to try first.

I just love it for the theming as it's so unique. We go for lunch though and have simple burgers and sandwiches, and the foods always been average. I also love the alcoholic milkshakes they serve there.

Am I assuming correctly that a "limo" is a table? : )

Thanks for your help!
