I've been doing a lot of reading and trying to figure out where to eat each day of our trip. My mom and I think the Sci-Fi Drive In looks so cool, but keep reading about how horrible the food is and that it is way overpriced. We almost always do counter service or vendor carts when we go to theme parks. Is the food all that bad, or is it just people who are expecting more than junk? Just curious because it looks like a great atmosphere and that's what we like the most.

The food is not horrible, and it is overpriced, but a lunch you get a burger and a milkshake for a late lunch and it's not that expensive. Sci-Fi is a must-do restaurant for us. The atmosphere is really great, and it's the sort of place that would only exist at Disney.

My family and I ate there in August 2005. We thought the food was great. We didn't pay though. We were on the Free Dining Plan. So I cannot comment on the prices. We had lunch around 12:30pm and didn't eat for the rest of day. You sit in parked cars and it situated like in are in the drive in watching old commericals and movie previews. Son loved it, hubby loved it more.

Agreed. I actually love the food there! And the atmosphere is amazing and something you would only find at WDW!
We go every trip.
But, the best advice I can give is decide for yourslef because everyone on here is going to have different opinions, but I say go for it!

You didn't say if you were on DDP? But am assuming not! I had the shrimp/pasta dish which wasn't that great the rest had steak and loved it! I had the oreo cookie milkshake which was delish, the onion rings were great as was the artichoke dip. I've heard the burgers are great! The atmosphere is really cool and relaxing We would definately do it again. Next time I want the Reuben!!

We LOVE Sci-Fi!!! It is the coolest themed restaurant. The food, for us, was fine. It wasn't anything to write home about, but it wasn't gross either. We always get some sort of hamburger with onion rings. You should definitely try it once.

:thumbsup2 We do not have the dining plan. We are staying offsite. Just doing our own thing. The cost isn't really an issue. I am a burger, fries, chicken strip, grilled cheese, churro, corndog, nachos, diet coke and milkshake loving girl (at theme parks at least). Sci-Fi is starting to sound perfect. Just the kind of place my mom and I like.

I am getting VERY excited!

I agree--if it looks like fun to you, go for it! We choose our WDW restaurants for the atmosphere, not because the food is spectacular. We ate at Sci-Fi last month and thought it was fine. Of course, I'm a sucker for a good milkshake... We paid OOP and it was expensive for what we got, but that's pretty much how I feel about eating anywhere at WDW. It's one of those "can't get anywhere else" experiences. Have fun!

Rose I had the Rueben and it was delicious. YUM YUM. I may try it again but hubby swears by the burgers.

I am an atmosphere person as well, and SciFi is my favorite restaurant. It really has the Disney factor for me. The food is ok, not horrible, and it is overpriced, but no more than other places for similar type of food. I love this place, it is a must-do for us!

My favorite thing to order out is cheeseburgers. I've eaten many, many cheeseburgers in my life.

I got the worst cheeseburger EVER at the Sci-Fi.

But the experience is great! And although I would never call the food there "good", it isn't always as terrible as the time I got the Worst Cheeseburger Ever.

DH and I make it a point to visit Sci-Fi on every trip. The atmosphere is fun and very different. We always get the cheeseburger with a chocolate milkshake. We have always gotten excellent food there and we have been going there for many years, sometimes 2-3 x a year! To us, the food is always consistent and always great. They even allowed us to order cheeseburgers from the lunch menu at dinner. (CB are not on the dinner menu-at least not in Jan 07 when we were there last)
IMHO-I don't think you'll be disappointed w/ the food and atmosphere. Just make sure you have a PS. The restaurant is very popular and can get very crowded!

Stick with the burgers and you'll do fine. However, I tried a bite of my DM's Reuben and I really liked it. It was pretty huge too. I didn't think the milkshake was all that though. Go! Enjoy!

Sci-Fi is a tradition for us as well!! No, it's not "Fine Dining" but last year I had the Spinich Dip as an appetizer, a cheeseburger, and I can't remember the dessert, but it was all good!! The atmosphere is great and for us, it is part of our Disney experience!

I like "simple" food as well and Sci-Fi was my favourite restaurant at WDW last summer. It is such a unique experience! They even let me get a drink in the kid's cup with the glow cube. DH thought I was crazy, but I thought it was great!!! :yay:

me and my DH ate there in may and we liked it. i had heard on the DIS to stick to the burgers/sandwiches, so i got a burger w/ swiss cheese and mushrooms and he got a bbq chicken sandwich (which also had cheese and fried onion straws on it). we both got fries cause.....well......we were on vacation and we deserved them! :goodvibes both our sandwiches were really good. and we also got the spinach artichoke appetizer and it must've been good because we devoured it in a matter of minutes! we didn't get dessert because we were so full.

this was the only meal we paid OOP for as we were on the DDP (and we had to save a TS for dinner at narcoosee's which uses 2 TS's per person). our bill was around $44, but we also got one of those "year of a million dreams" blue glowtini's and shared it, so that added like $8-$12....i can't remember the exact price off the top of my head! hope you have a wonderful trip!!! :)

Sci-Fi is also a must-do for us every trip. DH LOVES it. I ordered the spinach dip - it was one of the best I've ever had. The rest of the food was OK but i'd go back in a minute for that dip :)
