Sci Fi Dinner Theater worth it?

Food was OK. Shakes were good as well as the atmosphere. My only complaint was that service was very slow. That cool trailer reel they show (its not a movie but trailers and clips of old sci-fi movies) lasts only an hour. We were there for almost 2 hours due to the slow service so we sat through the same reel again. They need to extend that reel considerably - would not be that hard to update. But yes I would do it at least once.

We really do like this restaurant even though we haven't done it the last few times..After reading this post though I'm thinking I should add back on my list of things to try next trip. The kids probably don't remember it that clearly so it will be like new to them!!

Personally, I think it's a fun thing to do ONCE! it seems pretty expensive to me for what you get but it can really be a fun thing to do for kids! my kids liked it but once it was done, that was enough. Give it a try! you will probably have a great time!

I have to say, for us, it was one and done. I'm glad we tried it, but the food was so so, and our service was bad. I thought my kids would really enjoy it, but even they were less than impressed. Sitting the cars is really cool for about 5 minutes and then it just becomes uncomfortable. It is very tight ( and I am not a big person) and they sit 2 in front and two in back. This made it really difficult to tend to the kids in back of me. I wanted to love it, but not so much.

We love to go for a late lunch. We always go in August, so it's a nice break from the heat. DH and I split an appetizer & meal, and we each enjoy a beer or a milkshake. We love to just sit and relax while we soak up the atmosphere.

I agree with other posters that the food is just ok. It's all about the atmosphere for me. It's uniqueness makes it a must do for me.

I'm surprised about the comments about the service but we've been there as a couple, with our son, and with a full car with our little extended family. Each time, we were helped within five minutes, had friendly servers, and have been in and out within the length of the movie trailers. And that one time with the full car? Our grandkids wanted to stay longer for the movies because they were helping each other out in the front seat with eating so they didn't see the first fifteen minutes of the clips. Of course, Grumpy Grandpa (their phrasing) and I ordered another beer and our son and daughter-in-law in the back seat groaned but we had another fifteen minutes for the grandkids.

My last trip I ended up just walking up right at opening so we could try to get in after cancelling our Sci-Fi reservation for BOG. We just ordered apps and shakes and it was a nice snack in a very cool atmosphere. There's so much to see.

We went a few weeks back. The service was terribly slow, the waitress didn't keep our drinks full, they didn't even bring everything we needed to eat our meals. The people around us were fighting, their kids were screaming, and the food was tasty but not tasty enough to justify the price. If I hadn't been drinking, I would have been very angry. It was bad enough that it was comped. The management should have tossed the family near us out as much of a scene as they made, but they did absolutely nothing to control the situation. That meal was the deciding factor in not giving Disney any more money for table service meals.

Was it the slow service you encountered or the fighting family that led you to that decision?

It was both, I could have dealt with one or the other but it was just a nightmare dinner. I can't decide if it was the lack of ability to eat the food in front of us for 10ish minutes as it sat getting cold, or the kid screaming in the high chair in front of us that really sent it over the edge. It was also the second really bad experience in a row, except in the other case it was poorly prepared food and screaming kids at a different restaurant, in that case our service itself was awesome. Disney comp'ed both so I won't complain too loudly. I have a dining card with some money on it sitting right here and I dread the thought of using it. I might use it for snacks or quick service instead.

Oh, and I fixed my broken sentence too. :)

My personal opinion is it is a must. I'm craving their cucumber salad as we speak! I know it is nothing fancy but I love the feel and atmosphere.

My husband is a big b movie fan and of the drive-in. I did not think it was worth it but he loved it. Food was eh, nothing "out of this world"

Went 4 times over the years that were very good.....service, food, ambience.

A trip in April was not good for sure. Ambience was there but food was awful and service was non-existent.

Very disappointed as we did like it previously. Definitely not going back for a while.

I've never had a problem with the service. The food is middle of the road for Disney dining. To go or not depends on if you think you'll enjoy the ambiance: a drive-in setting showing 50's and '60's sci-fi based clips.

If you're looking for a place with a unique ambiance and what I think is better food, then I'd say try the 50's Prime Time Cafe instead.
