Sci-Fi Diner thoughts

We ate there last June, my second or third time, and I wasn't impressed either. I don't know, I didn't even think the atmosphere is all that great. Maybe once you've seen it the novelty is worn off? I now know they ask this but at the time I was surprised that they asked if we wanted a car to ourselves or would we share, 3 of us, sharing would not have been comfy. The kids didn't even like it, I guess it's not our thing :confused3 Probably will be years, if ever, before we eat there again.

I don't like 50's prime time either and lots of people do. Not really thrilled about eating at the Studios, although we do like Mama Melrose.

But - try it once, see what you think.

We went in November, the service was good, the food was hot and it was the best burger I had the entire time I was there. Would I go back? You bet!

We really love the Sci-Fi... You must know going in the food is simple, not fancy.... The food they do serve is done very well and the vanilla shakes (covered on the plan as your drink) are out of this world.... We love the atmosphere (really cool).... It is the type of place you MUST DO AT LEAST ONCE... We have been three times and plan to go again... We have no problems with our servers and we have always enjoyed what we ordered.

I think Sci-Fi is much more about the atmosphere than it is about the food. I say, try it once, it's worth it, but you probably would not go back time & time again.

In September, the only item we had that got the GREAT approval rating was the Cookie Shake. We did think the Artichoke Dip was good as was the Shrimp Penne Pasta. Only marked as OK was the Chicken Ceaser Salad & the onion rings.

If you are looking for real bang for your buck, go elsewhere. If you are looking for a bit of a different experience, try Sci-Fi.

The cheeseburger was pretty good, as was the BLT soup. Onion rings are ok. The alcoholic oreo milkshake is great.

Last trip I tried the beef salad and I'll be going back to the cheeseburger.

Yeah, it's overpriced, so is most everything at WDW.

Service has been sllooooow as molasses so I don't go if I'm in a hurry.

Went there on my last Disney trip (2007) and ordered hamburger, fries, and coke. Couple of hours later I experienced an unpleasant bathroom experience courtesy of the Martian burger. The service was so-so. Still I loved sitting in the car booth, watching the film reels, and taking in the whole ambiance.

Go for the atmosphere and just order a shake.

I really thought I'd love this place when I went, but we actually ended up having a pretty horrible time. My food was OK, dbf's was awful. I can't remember what he had, but I had the BLT soup (which was nice) and the Reuben.

I didn't like the atmosphere (mainly eating in the dark I think) and the service was terrible. Our waitress sat us down and pretty much forgot about us. When she did come by (to serve the people we were 'hitching' with), she was rude and made us feel as though we were some how inconveniencing her. She also kept our change when we paid!

I would say give it a go though. Our bad experience was mostly due to the service, which definitely isn't typical of a Disney restaurant.

We loved this place :thumbsup2 Foood had fantastic flavours, brilliant service, atmosphere excellent. DH and DS really enjoyed it, as much as myself and it was a lovely cool shady spot on a hot afternoon. The shakes were amazing and we loved the glowing ice cubes:lovestruc

We have an ADR there for our upcoming trip and we are greatly looking forward to it- we are going for lunch and paying out of pocket as I don't think it is worth using a table credit for- can't wait to try those onion rings and shakes- Jen

I found the food to be mall food court acceptable, the theming was fun, and the service was ok. It was a decent choice for us, but I wouldn't hurry back. Worth doing once I think?

We went there for lunch. I thought the sandwiches were pretty good. I liked the old sci fi clips when we were kids. The service was ok. My husband is in a wheelchair so it took them a little while to figure out where they wanted to put him. It was high fr sandwiches though. Had we not been on the dining plan our meal would have been $72. That is a little expensive for sandwiches and dessert. My husband liked his shake.

We really loved it. The meal was perfectly good, the shakes awesome. It was a very memorable meal. So cute and so fun, we passed it up on our fist trip, but on our third trip we decided to do the ADR for it, and truly the kids loved it, one 17. one 11. The 17teen year old had fun with our cute waitress.. I would go again

To each his/her own I say.

For us, Sci-Fi is a "must do" every visit to WDW.

Is it the food quality? NO (but burgers onion rings & a shake is a pretty good option there).

Is it the entertainment? A definite maybe.

The main reason DW and I love Sci Fi is because it is consistently the quietest meal we have at WDW. Have 2 rambunctious boys (1 & 7). They sit quietly and eat and watch the "Drive-in" screen every single time. That, combined with the drive-in style speakers at each table makes for an eerily quiet dining experience. For us at least. We treasure this and contrast it regularly to the cacaphony of noise that is any character buffet at WDW.

JMO and regards,

I have a question about Sci-Fi?

I saw a pic where I think I saw 4 people sitting in a "car."

If you only have 2 in your party, do you get seated with 2 other strangers?

If so, has anyone had problems with this in the past?

We 'hitched a ride' with a few members of quite a large group. Because of the seating arrangements (you won't be facing each other) it isn't really a problem. The only problem we did find, however, was that our waitress only wanted to serve the big group and the two of us were forgotten Like I said before though, ours was just one bad experience. Lots of other people had a great time here.

There are people who just love the Sci-Fi.

As with every restaurant at WDW there are people who have had a bad experience and will rant against it. Even ones like Le Cellier, Boma, and the Brown Derby have their haters.

The Sci-fi has simpler food. Some people love that about it. Those same people will rate down a restaurant when the menu gets to sificticated. Look at the menu, the Items they have will be good versions of those items.

As far as servers go you can get bad service at any restaurant. A bad service will tarnish your views of a restaurant. But I have had good and Bad service at about every restaurant on property - even Jinko. And one of the best waiters I've ever had was a Pizza Hut in my town.

Your gonna have fun and that's what it's about. If service gets slow take time and enjoy the atmosphere. Look around there's all kind of stuff to look at besides the movie clips.

Another way to look at - It's a Hollywood Studios attraction that also serves food.

We enjoyed it very much when we ate there. My husband wants to do it again when we go in Nov, but i told him that i want to try different ones each time.
