SCI FI Dine IN

Okay Experts! My DS really wants to eat at the Sci Fi but DW has been reading various reports that put the Sci Fi in a bad light.

Anyone with any insight please help out.

I think you should go. The experience is great with the old movies.
I thought the food was good. I know it has some bad reviews. But, I think the experience is worth going.
It seems like my son got a desert they brought him in a glow in the dark frisbie that he got to keep.
It was a very entertaining lunch.

I’ve eaten there twice, once in a car and once at one of the back tables. To be honest the food was not bad. It wasn’t great but it was not as bad as everyone has said. I liked the back table better. I was able to hold a conversation with the people I was with a lot better and I don’t need the constant stimulation of a movie while I am eating.

We love Sci-Fi and eat there every time we do to WDW. We are very much burger, chicken finger, cesaer salad kind of people, who don't really like too many sauces and seasonings, so this is just our kind of place, as is 50's PTC. I would be unhappy eating in some of the "nicer" Disney restaurants because they're just not our style.

I highly recommend the Sci-Fi for lunch. When I think of dinner, I prefer a little more than ribs or sandwich with fries. I have had some very good food, as well as a grilled chicken sandwich that was dry. The experience is well worth it. Those Comets are dangerous!

Any restaurant at WDW will get both positive and negative reviews. Since people’s tastes are so different it is hard to take one persons take on a restaurant as gospel. Not only are the tastes different but their criteria is also different. I judge a restaurant based on the healthy choices while someone else might put entertaining their kids first.

I would suggest going to wdwinfo or allears and looking at the menu. If it is a restaurant you want to try and see one or two things you like on the menu go for it.

That’s just my opinion on WDW anyway, take it for what it’s worth.

Stick with boring food and you'll love it. ie: burgers, fries, shakes etc etc. Most people that dont like it seem to order 'fancier' named foods, and sci-fi "aint that kinda place" It's a DRIVE IN!!! you dont get fancy food at a drive in!

I second dburg's sentiments. Keep to the simple stuff. They have a really good burger, and Yuengling on tap. I recall the onion rings being pretty good too. I would avoid anything complicated, like the shrimp pasta as these sorts of things do not seem to be a strength in this context. This is likely why the reviews are so mixed.

But it is fun! For our upcoming trip (3 weeks! oh yeah!) each family member got to choose one restaurant: DD (aged 8) chose the Sci Fi. (DS chose the Spirit of Aloha, DW afternoon tea at the G Flo and I got Raglan Road). So in terms of Fun, Sci Fi is a big winner.

For TS Dining at DHS, Sci Fi ranks second behind Brown Derby (which is truly wonderful, but a different mode altogether), and ahead of 50's Prime Time, with the other two sit-down restaurants not worth any mention (as we will not be going back to either of them).

I too have posted in another thread that I was worried about dinner at Sci-Fi after reading all the negative opinions of the restaurant. I went ahead and booked Brown Derby Fantasmic package for the same day...I'm not sure what I'm going to do with the ADR that I had made...I may keep it...I'm just not sure what to do. My kids really liked the pix of it and were excited to eat at Sci-Fi. I'm torn.

Sci-fi is fine. Just order what you would have ordered at a real drive in theater, and you'll do great. The burgers are way better than you'll find at most fast food joints, for example. And the shakes are very good.

Go; enjoy. Just expect an entertaining experience rather than an epicurean's dream and you'll be fine.

Right there with you.

We love the Sci-Fi's "drive in" type food...they do the simple stuff best (burgers, O-rings, shakes, etc).

The stuff they do REALLY well is more "lunch" type food, for us, rather than "dinner" type food (which I think 50's Prime Time excels at, in DHS).

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Sci-Fi...we just prefer to do it for lunch.

Not to mention the Rocky Horror-esque participation between some of the servers and hosts during the movie scene when the giant gets pricked by the huge syringe. "Run for your lives!!!"

We had burgers, onion rings, and shakes and they were good. It was super nice to get out of the heat and relax in the cool, dark "drive-in".

One note: if they still have the option of the cucumber & melon salad as a side with the burgers and sammies, skip it and go with the fries. The salad was completely flavorless and a bit mushy - they could have made a really jazzy dressing with lemon & mint, perhaps, but instead it was just bland.

Another vote for Sci-Fi. Order the burgers. We loved them and the atmosphere was great!
